POSITRACTION: Kinney, who works as a cable technician for Spectrum, leads by example

Mom Snaps Viral Picture of a Cable Technician Comforting Her Disabled Son While He Fixes the Internet
By McKinley Corbley - Mar 27, 2019

*** begin quote ***

This cable technician is being praised for going above and beyond the call of duty after he arrived at the home of a stressed-out mother and her wailing toddler.

Earlier this month, Jessica Nash Donnahoo had been having a particularly hard day with her 3-year-old son Sailor. She had been trying to finish her household chores and simultaneously care for her 2-year-old daughter while her husband was at work – but her tasks were made all the more difficult by the fact that Sailor had been crying all morning.

Because Sailor suffers from blindness and two rare brain defects, he has a hard time communicating his needs. To Donnahoo’s surprise, however, she was given an unlikely reprieve from her parenting duties when Rob Kinney walked in through the door.

Kinney, who works as a cable technician for Spectrum, had been called to fix the internet in their Greenville, South Carolina home.

Immediately after he walked in through the door, Sailor ran up to the repairman and held up his arms – and to Donnahoo’s surprise, Kinney happily responded by scooping Sailor into his arms.

Kinney then spent the next 45 minutes rocking and soothing the youngster while he fixed the internet. By the time he was ready to leave, Sailor was almost asleep.

*** end quote ***

What a tech!  Not only fixes the internet, but does it while soothing a disabled child to sleep.

I hope when such an opportunity presents itself to me, I’ll have the grace that this tech did to accept it.

Can’t believe everything you hear about how terrible humans are to each other.

JNEWS: Premo, Paul [MC????] remembers Mario Savio

2019-Sep-16

https://www.marinij.com/2019/09/15/marin-ij-readers-forum-for-sept-16-2019/

Column about Mario Savio brought back memories

I am writing in regards to Susan Mines’ How It Is column in the Lifestyles section (“A hero to those who remember, a gray-haired math professor to those who don’t,” Sept. 10) about Mario Savio.

In the fall of 1960, I enrolled in chemical engineering at Manhattan College, located in a lovely setting in northwestern Bronx, an area known as Fieldston. Most of the students commuted daily from New York City, Long Island, Westchester and New Jersey.

We freshmen out-of-towners boarded in a dormitory that had engineers on third floor and science guys (no women then) on second floor.

I noticed that many late afternoons before heading to dinner, there was an enclave in the dorm’s second floor entry area where the science guys were collaborating on solving assigned calculus problems. One science student, a tall guy, was explaining the logic and the approach. He could do the problems and explain them. That was Mario Savio.

He didn’t stay at Manhattan for long; why, I have no idea.

I took a job with Chevron in the Bay Area in 1965. That’s when I saw Mario on TV, rallying University of California at Berkeley students.

It truly is a small world.

Ever since Nicole was old enough to pick up a pen, she began writing stories. She remembers fondly Roald Dahl’s James and the Giant Peach as the first book she read to take her on an adventure, and thus fell in love with writing fantasy. Her equal love for history propelled Nicole to delve further into the witch hunts throughout Europe and the witch trials in Salem, giving her the idea for her debut novel.

Sound Lounge’s Becca Falborn Nominated for Forbes “30 Under 30”
ArtisansPR ⋅ 1 hour ago

NEW YORK— Sound Lounge executive producer Becca Falborn is among the nominees for inclusion in Forbes annual “30 Under 30” feature. Nominations continue across 20 categories through September 27th. Individuals can be nominated multiple times. Nominees will be evaluated by a panel of judges including reporters, editors and industry experts who will make the final selections.

Forbes 30 Under 30 honorees include the nation’s best young leaders across media, technology, entertainment, finance, fashion, food and philanthropy. Last year, Forbes received more than 15,000 nominations for the 600 slots.

Falborn, 29, was appointed executive producer at Sound Lounge earlier this year, making her one of the few female sound company executives—and one of the youngest. In her current role, she manages the studio’s busy advertising division and supervises its team of producers. She also leads client relations and sales, and manages Sound Lounge Everywhere, the company’s remote sound services offering.

Falborn joined Sound Lounge in 2017 as a Producer and was elevated to Senior Producer last year. She has produced voice over recordings, sound design, and mixing for many advertising projects, including seven out of the nine spots produced by Sound Lounge that debuted during this year’s Super Bowl telecast. A graduate of Manhattan College, Falborn has a background in business affairs, client services and marketing, including past positions with the post house Nice Shoes and the marketing agency Hogarth Worldwide.

“It’s an honor to be considered alongside other young entrepreneurs, innovators and leaders,” said Falborn. “My nomination is a testament to the great work of the team at Sound Lounge and the innovations we are introducing to post-production sound.”

Broughty Ferry baseballer Tom Waddell
by Stefan Morkis
September 21 2019, 8.45am

A former Broughty Ferry man who played Major League Baseball for the Cleveland Indians has died at the age of 61.

Tom Waddell is one of only 498 professional baseball players to have been born in the United Kingdom and one of only seven to have played in the league since 1980.

His family moved to New Jersey when he was a child.

A pitcher, he played for Manhattan College and semi-pro teams.

However, an elbow problem meant Waddell, who had been forecast as a first round pick, went undrafted when he left college in 1981.

He fell out of baseball and was working as a clothes salesman, playing softball at night, when he decided his elbow had recovered enough for him to relaunch his baseball career.

Waddell had a tryout with the Atlanta Braves and impressed scouts, including future Hall of Fame player Hank Aaron, enough to win a contract with one of the team’s minor league affiliates.

He said later: “I bought a case of Heineken’s and got drunk. Did I get a bonus? Sure, Aaron handed me an autographed baseball. I gave it to a kid when I left the park.”

Although successful with a succession of the team’s of minor league affiliates, the Braves did not pick him for their 40-man roster in 1983, allowing the Cleveland Indians to sign him instead.

He made his Major League debut against the Baltimore Orioles in 1984 and went on to make 58 relief appearances for the team that season.

In 1985 he was converted to a starting pitcher, beating the New York Yankees in his first start.

Waddell then had shoulder surgery in September 1985 that effectively ended his Major League career.

He made three appearances with the Indians’ minor league affiliate before appearing for another six games for the Indians in 1987.

He then returned to the minor leagues before retiring in 1989.

After his playing career ended he had a number of jobs and made his home in Tucson, where he owned an indoor baseball training facility.

He is survived by his wife Sande, children Kady and Kyle and granddaughter Kiley.

That interferometer was later repurposed to control polishing of the Hubble Telescope secondary mirror, the one that was done correctly. He designed space flight instruments used to understand the chemistry of the ozone layer and to verify compliance with arms treaties. His research on high-energy-laser mirrors led to a 100-times increase in power-handling ability, and a successful SDI demonstration against a fixed target. He was the systems engineer for the high energy transmission grating instrument on Chandra, and liaison between NASA and the Dutch scientists building Chandra’s low-energy transmission grating instrument. Most recently, he supplied technical expertise to three space weather instruments: the solar proton spectrometer on DSCOVR, and the SUVI and EXIS instruments on the four GOES-R series satellites. At Norwich he teaches PS201 lectures and PS211 labs.

Former NFL Player Accused of Vandalizing His Own Business with ‘MAGA’ and Racist Slurs

A former NFL player has been arrested in Georgia for vandalizing his own business with racist slurs and the phrase “MAGA,” to make it appear as if Trump supporters and racists attacked him.

So sad.

Because of the damage these false claims do to our national spirit, there should be some severe penalties.

Wonder what drives people to invent these?

Could it be that there is less “racism” and “prejudice” than the main stream media, “celebrities”, politicians, and bureaucrats would like us to believe?

It’s like when the KKK musters a “mob” of ten or twenty fat old men and we’re supposed to be “shocked”!

Sigh!
