“Before I left, I wrote out my will,” she told Good News Network. “I didn’t expect to come back. I was either going to find an existence over there or quietly fall off the side of a mountain.”

Hard to imagine the depths of despair that would induce some one to jump.
I doubt that it was a “random” happenstance. I’d like to think the Universe, a Guardian Angel, or just the human will to survive made the world a better place.
I don’t fault the school. Can’t save everyone. No margin; no mission.

It has been said that " You don't have to do great things to make a difference. You can make a great differenceby doing small things gratiously."
Over the years, when you have been thanked for your prayers, good thoughts and good wishes, one or more of you have said: “We have done nothing, no big deal.” You cannot be further from the truth. Your commitment, dedication, heartfelt prayers and the love you share so profoundly in your prayers are indeed a big deal. You are all an exception, you do great and small things graciously and make a difference each time you offer a prayer for someone in need of our prayers.
When I think of Gods gifts to us, Our Littlest Jasper, Luke, that precious litlle sweetheart, Eloise and of course that small wonder, Jackie and our friends and loved ones amongst us and those called home and the many others that have been in our prayers, I know that God smiles upon each of you each time you raise your voices in prayer. As someone I know always says in her ministry, " Thank You For Being." Raise the volume in thanks for the many times our prayers have been answered, as we give thanks for each other.

This is a Christmas story that has nothing to do with Christmas. It represents a Jesus like miracle, however.
Their parents named them Kryrie and Brielle.
They were placed in separate incubators.
Kyrie did well. Gained weight, etc. Brielle went the other way. Lost weight. Cried constantly. It was obvious Brielle was not going to make it. Death inevitable.
Nurse Gayle had been taking care of the babies in ICU. She needed to do something more for Brielle.
What?
At the time, European hospitals in similar situations were placing the twins into one incubator together.
Next to each other. In some instances, the dying twin survived.
Such was not permitted in Massachusetts hospitals at the time. Specifically against the rules.
Gayle disregarded the rules and placed the dying Brielle next to Kryrie in Kryrie's incubator. Both were placed on their stomachs. Immediately and without assistance, Kryrie's arm lifted over her sister's back and remained there. In a holding pattern.
Brielle immediately stopped crying. She improved from that moment on. Survived, of course.
The twins are 22 years old today. Lovely. Live vibrant lives.
God is good! He works in strange ways.

I’ve recently had first hand experience with the NICU and the heroic women who care for the babe is trouble.
Despite the one chastising me for not vigorously washing my hands enough, I pray they are all as diligent.

Obituary for John Gibson
John Mitchell Galbraith Gibson, 81, died peacefully at home in Virginia Beach, VA on November 2, 2017 surrounded by his family. He was the beloved husband of Peggy; loving father of Matthew, Mandy, Margaret and Mary and their spouses; cherished grandfather of Stephen, Ann Marie, Abigail, Alyssa, Lauren, Ryan, David, and Ella; and much-loved Uncle Bud of Johnny, Joey, Jeanne and JoAnne.
Mr. Gibson was preceded in death by his parents, John M.G. Sr. and Anna M. Gibson, and his sister, Ann Marie Cangemi. He is survived by his wife, Margaret Gibson of Virginia Beach, VA; son, Matthew Gibson (Renee) of Elgin, SC; daughters: Mandy Gibson Doar (Samuel) of Landrum, SC, Margaret Gibson Thomas (Dennis) of Deltona, FL, and Mary Gibson Steele (Rick) of Virginia Beach, VA, and eight grandchildren.
John was born on May 13, 1936 in Jamaica, Queens, New York. He was a 1954 graduate of St. John’s Prep. He graduated from Manhattan College in 1959, where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. While at Manhattan College, he was a member of the AFROTC Band and President of the Glee Club. It was through the Glee Club that he met his future wife, Peggy Price Johnston, a student at nearby Ladycliff College.
Mr. Gibson was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served at Fort Dix, NJ from 1959 to 1961. He and his wife married in July, 1961 and moved to Red Bank NJ, where they lived until the family moved south to Rock Hill, SC in 1976.
He held many jobs over the years, from a farm hand at a dairy farm, a delivery truck driver for a bakery, to business form salesman with Moore Business Forms, to the Site Administrator at Dystar (formerly Mobay). He retired from Dystar in 1996, after 31 years of service. He and Peggy spent the next 17 years traveling across these great United States as well as overseas. They sold their home in Rock Hill and began to travel and live full-time in their motorhome in 2003. Among their adventures: they volunteered at several California State Parks, such as Big Sur and also with the United States Forest Service at Ocala National Forest in Florida. Highlights of these times were their many visits with their children and grandchildren.
Mr. Gibson was a longtime active member of St. Anne Catholic Church in Rock Hill, SC, where he served on the Board of Religious Education for many years and was also a Lector. He enjoyed spending time with his family on camping trips and tinkering with the engines of his cars, motor homes and lawn mowers. He and the family camped in over 35 states in the USA over the years.
In 2013, he and Peggy sold the motorhome and moved to Virginia Beach, VA to begin their “official” retirement. While in Virginia Beach, they attended the Catholic Church of St. Mark. John’s spare time was spent reading the newspaper, babysitting his grandchildren, working on his computer, and providing ready advice to his children and grandchildren. He will be known best as a good husband, a good father and a good human being.
At Mr. Gibson’s request, his remains have been donated to medical research through the Virginia Anatomical Gift Program.
The family will hold a memorial service at the Catholic Church of St. Mark, 1505 Kempsville Rd, Virginia Beach, VA 23464 on December 30, 2017 at 1:00pm.

Pearl River, NY - Peter F. Sheridan, 83, formerly of Pearl River, NY, died peacefully December 26, 2017, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in the Bronx, NY on December 2, 1934 to the late Peter C. and Marcella (Mahedy) Sheridan, Peter attended St. Frances of Rome School, Mount Saint Michael Academy, and Manhattan College (Class of 1956), all in the Bronx, NY. He was an electrical engineer by degree, and worked as a sales engineer and manufacturers' representative for electrical equipment companies, serving New York Metropolitan Area utilities for over 50 years. With characteristic courage, imagination, integrity and intelligence, Pete founded and was Principal and President of Peter F. Sheridan, Inc., a very successful enterprise for over 30 years.
Pete's trademarks were his boundless optimism, contagious enthusiasm and senses of humor, fairness, honor and generosity. He put those qualities to great use as a coach and officer in the Pearl River Little League and Pee Wee Buccaneers football programs, as well as the St. Margaret School CYO basketball program. Pete served for many years as a member of the St. Margaret Parish Council, as well as on the Board of the Pearl River Nauraushaun Swim Club. Pete loved life and he loved people, and brought light and happiness everywhere he went, from the Bronx, to Pearl River, to his retirement home on Long Beach Island.
Predeceased by his beloved wife, Josephine (nee Biggins), Pete is survived by his devoted children; Peter T. Sheridan of Pearl River, NY, Thomas F. Sheridan (Vincent Walsh) of Washington, DC, Catherine Lawlor (John), of Little Rock, AR, Ann Sheridan of Manahawkin, NJ and Maureen Sheridan of Nyack, NY, and his sister, Ann Sheridan (Paul McAndrew) of Coopersburg, PA. He was the cherished and esteemed "Poppy" to Jack, Cara and Colleen Lawlor of Little Rock, AR and Tyler Steinbrunn of Manahawkin, NJ, and is loved by numerous nieces and nephews, as well as cousins from Arizona to Ireland.
Visiting is Monday January 1, 2018, from 4-8pm at Assumma-Shankey Funeral Home. A funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, January 2, 2018, at 10:30 am, at The Church of St. Aedan, 23 S. Reld Drive, Pearl River, NY. On Wednesday, January 3, 2018, at St. Francis Church, 4700 Long Beach Boulevard, Brant Beach, NJ, the family will hold a visitation at 10:30 am. A Mass will follow at 11:00 am. Burial will be private at St. Mary's Cemetery, Barnegat, NJ.

Richard E. Laverty, 71 of Essex passed away on Monday, January 1, 2018 at UVMC.
He is a beloved husband, a wonderful father, a supportive brother, and an adoring grandfather. He is survived by his wife Patricia Laverty of Essex and their three children, all of Essex; Stacey Knight, her husband Brian and their three children, Cora, Connor, and Kaileigh; Kevin Laverty, his wife Lisa and their seven children, Val, Krispin, Carl, Roland, Oliver, Gus, and Paul; Jeanne Cole and her husband Andrew and their two children, Madeleine and Aliana; and by two sisters Renee Partridge and husband James, and Robin Tabulka and husband Joseph.
Richard came to Vermont in 1969 from West Nyack, New York after graduating from Manhattan College. He received his MBA from the University of Vermont in 1971. While working on his PhD, he met his wife Patricia and spent the next 45 years of his life with her. He chose to start a family here in Vermont instead of pursuing further graduate study at Stanford University. This commitment to love and family defined his life.
He spent 26 years working for the College of Medicine at the University of Vermont before transitioning to the Department of Aging and Independent Living at the State of Vermont. He worked there for 20 years before finally retiring in 2016.
He will be remembered for his masterful storytelling, his quick wit, and his ability to plumb the deep questions in life. He knew just what to say whether you were 90 or 9 months and he made you feel completely at home. He saw magic in the world around him and was able to share that wonder in a sincere and innocent way. You could hear wisdom in his words and see clearly the joyous inner child that he shared unselfconsciously. The love he left behind in this world cannot be measured but his legacy lives on in all those he taught, as a husband, as a father, as a brother, as an uncle, as a grandfather, as a mentor, and as a friend. He will be missed.
Visiting hours will be held Wednesday, January 3 from 4pm to 7pm at the Ready Funeral & Cremation Service Mountain View Chapel, 68 Pinecrest Dr., Essex Junction. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, January 4, at 11:00am in St. Pius X Church in Essex. Burial will be in the spring at Resurrection Park Cemetery, So. Burlington. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you donate to the Vermont Food Bank or the Lund Family Center in his memory.

He was a manager at Con Edison for 41 years, managing a variety of teams including Public Affairs, Purchasing and Harlem Division Customer Service. He was also an adjunct Professor at Borough of Manhattan Community College and the New School.
Norman is survived by his wife, Sheila, and three daughters: Susan Haynes, Denise Kerner and Linda Haynes.
Calling hours will be at FLYNN MEMORIAL HOME, on Central Park Avenue, on Thursday from 4 pm to 8 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, 9:45 am, at Saint Joseph's Church, Bronxville. Interment will follow at Pinelawn Memorial Park, Farmingdale, NY. Donations in his honor can be made to the NAACP or the Alzheimer's Association.

DONALD JOHN RAINONE
September 25, 1943 - December 28, 2017
Donald passed peacefully on the evening of December 28, 2017 at the age of 74 after a long illness. He was surrounded and supported by his loving family during the last days of his life.
Donald was born in New York. He graduated from Bishop Loughlin Memorial High School and received his Bachelor of Electrical Engineering degree from Manhattan College. Donald started his career at IBM and retired from Dun & Bradstreet Corp as President of US Sales.
Donald is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Trudie, three children, Kimberly Rainone of New York City, Danielle Rainone-Roofener and her husband Ted Roofener of Westfield, NJ and Donald Rainone of Vero Beach and two grandsons Chase Roofener & Drew Roofener.
He was preceded in death by his loving daughter, Kristen Marie, his parents, Luchina and Donato, his six older sisters and other dear family and friends.
Donald is remembered for his infectious laugh, sense of humor and love of life.
Donald was a member of Quail Valley Club in Vero Beach, Florida.

The death has occurred of Michael Brendan Jackson, "Mike," an Annapolis, Maryland, resident for two years, previously of Yonkers, New York for 53 years. Mike died on 1/1/18 from Alzheimer’s disease.
He was born on 5/14/33, in Ennistymon, Co. Clare, to Thomas and Catherine (Griffy) Jackson. He grew up in Newbridge, Co. Kildare, and graduated St Joseph’s Academy. He served in the US Army from ‘57-’63 and earned a BBA from Manhattan College. He worked for 30 yrs for IBM and was a longtime member of St Eugene's Church, Yonkers, NY.
He was predeceased by his parents and a brother, Bernard Jackson of Dublin. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Jeannie Jackson, a native of Donegal Town; three children, Maureen, Tom and Kevin; two siblings, Kieran Jackson of Newbridge, Co. Kildare, and Marion MacEneaney of Drogheda, Co. Louth; and seven grandchildren.
Friends may call at the Kalas Funeral Home, Edgewater, Maryland on Sunday, 1/7 from 2-5 pm. A Funeral Mass will be held at St Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, Crofton, on Monday, 1/8 at 11 am.

Michael Brendan Jackson, "Mike," an Annapolis resident for the last two years and previously of Yonkers, NY for 53 years, died on Monday, January 1, 2018, from complications related to Alzheimer's disease. He was 84.
Mike was born on May 14, 1933, in Ennistymon, County Clare, Ireland to the late Thomas and Catherine (Griffy) Jackson, he graduated from St. Joseph's Academy in Kildare, Ireland in 1952 and from Manhattan College in 1972. Mike served in the United States Army from 1957-63. He worked for I.B.M. as a Systems Analyst for 30 years. Mike was a longtime member of St. Eugene's Catholic Church in Yonkers, NY. He enjoyed golf, home improvement projects, listening to Irish music, and the stock market.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Bernard.
Mike is survived by his wife of 55 years, Anne Jane "Jeanie" (Meehan) Jackson; three children, Thomas of Severna Park, MD, Kevin of Crofton, MD and Maureen Jackson of Bronxville, NY; two siblings, Thomas Kieran of Newbridge, Co. Kildare, Ireland and Marion MacEneaney of Drogheda, Co. Louth, Ireland; and seven grandchildren, Brendan, Joseph, Kieran, Sean, Megan, Jane and Marian Jackson.

Dr. Dan Marier clearly remembers his first day of doctoring in Pendleton.
Marier had moved to Oregon from Denver to practice with Dr. Norm Sitz and two other doctors at Pendleton Internal Medicine.
“I started at 8 o’clock on Oct. 15, 1984 — the first day of bird season,” Marier recalls. “There was a note on my desk from Norm that said, ‘Gone bird hunting.’”
Marier saw 20 new patients that day and 20 the next day. He was off and running and didn’t slow down — until recently. The internist retired in December after 33 years in practice.

Marier, who is now 68, described himself as a science nerd who grew up in the rustbelt town of Binghamton, New York. As a college student, he studied chemical engineering at Manhattan College, then got accepted to medical school at New York University where tuition cost him $2,400 annually.

Marier found certain developments frustrating. One was a federal push in the last decade for doctors to use electronic medical records to track their patients. He found the software clunky, complex, time-consuming and distracting. In the exam room, Marier found himself gazing at the computer screen typing information into a database and missing non-verbal clues from his patients. Finally, both he and Sitz opted to hire scribes so they could concentrate on patients. Eventually, Marier said, “I reverted back to what I was doing 30 years ago. I had a pen, a pad and a dictaphone.”
Another frustration, he said, was doctors’ decreasing clout with insurance companies. In order to have negotiating power, physicians are selling their practices to health care companies. Marier and Sitz did that three years ago when they sold to the Praxis Medical Group.
He also commented on the rising cost of medication such as the price of an EpiPen for allergic attacks, which surged 535 percent from 2007 to 2014. Marier finds this type of spike ethically troublesome.
“The cost of meds has gone through the ceiling — it’s insane,” Marier said. “I think it’s immoral.”

A closing note: On DVD and Bluray, I own some 3700 movies. That number might sound outrageous, like the creation of an impulse buyer/hoarder, but nothing could be further from the truth. Every title in that collection means something to me. If you removed the monetary value, not a single one of those discs — not Death Wish V or Vegas Vacation — would I trade for all the contents of any art museum. Selecting 165 titles from that collection was agonizing, and any title that made the cut means that in its own way it is a #1.
The film industry lost its way some 20 years ago. There is no question about that. The unbroken spell that comes from competent storytelling and compelling characters is now an afterthought to spectacle, politics, lectures, nepotism, provincialism, and political correctness. And while that is a real shame, even though I have been in love with the movies for 40 years, I hardly notice. There is so much of Hollywood’s past still left for me to discover that at age 52, I fear I might run out of time. I also fear that I may never get to see those I have already discovered enough times. How is that for a luxury problem?
Movies are islands, narcotics, gifts, treasures, escapes, getaways; miracles of insight, not only into the men and women up on that screen, but the gods who created them. No other art form comes close.
I have stood in the Vatican and gaped in awe at the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel — I still prefer The Agony and the Ecstasy. I have vacationed at Monument Valley, a majestic experience that still does not compare to a screening of She Wore a Yellow Ribbon. I have swam in the Pacific, body surfed in the Atlantic, sailed in the Gulf, toured Rome, visited Disney World, cruised the Caribbean, seen Elvis and Sinatra perform live, and have twice driven across this beautiful country ours. All wonderful experiences, cherished memories, touchstones. But nothing will ever compare to the promise of that moment when the lights go down…

It’s stunning that they have killed the “gold mine” that was “entertainment”.
I blame their lack of originality on the politically correct leftist (actually communist) culture that seems to insist that they must “preach” to the great unwashed.
While doing this, their own “house” is in disarray with sexual assaults, hedonistic practices, drug abuse, and common slut-tery by all combinations of sexes.
They have, like the ancient Romans, debauched their culture with a crassness of porn. At least a porn star has no pretensions about what they are producing.
As such, the rest of society has just quietly put them in a box and ignored them.
I look forward to a Renaissance in the industry where all these faux “celebrities” are tossed on the rubbish pile and we have “entertainment” again.
