POSITRACTION: A "foolish" man creates immuno-oncology drugs

He Was Called Foolish for His Research; Now Documentary Tells How He Won Nobel Prize for ‘Cancer Cure’
By McKinley Corbley - Apr 14, 2019

*** begin quote ***

Jim Allison has been the quiet hero behind some of the most ground-breaking medical research of the last quarter century—but before he won the Nobel prize for his work, he was laboring tirelessly to proves his theories against a skeptical scientific community.

Back in the 90s, Allison was called “foolish” for claiming that the immune system could fight off cancer. Despite being shot down time and time again by medical researchers and pharmaceutical companies, Allison developed the basis for immuno-oncology drugs – also known as “lpi.”

Allison first became inspired to research cancer treatments as a result of his mother passing away after a long and debilitating battle with lymphoma when he was just 11 years old. After his mother’s passing, Allison would go on to lose a brother and two uncles to cancer; and he himself would end up beating cancer three different times.

*** and ***

As a means of thanking him for his determined efforts, Allison was co-awarded the 2018 Nobel prize for physiology or medicine. More recently, film director Bill Haney released a documentary about Allison last month called Breakthrough – and it has been hailed as a masterpiece since its release.

*** end quote ***

Interesting that this “foolish” man, pushed through all the nay-sayers, and did some great work for humanity.

“People who say it cannot be done should not interrupt those who are doing it.” George Bernard Shaw

I note the toll cancer took on his family.  And, I read this recurrent theme in many stories about doctor’s motivation to do big things.

Perhaps this is all part of a Grand Plan?

Joseph T. Mohen (born July 19, 1956) is a digital media entrepreneur[1] and CEO of Chimes Broadcasting, having been CEO of Nylon Media,[2] best known for having been founder and CEO and co-founder of election.com,[3] which ran the Arizona Democratic Primary in March 2000, the world’s first legally binding election conducted on the Internet,[4] according to the company.[5][6]. He has also been an investor in bioplastics, efforts to save the oceans by making products that look and feel like normal plastic, but are made from plants so they dissolve when thrown in the water. Mohen was also a force in creating the era of free legal music, as the founder of SpiralFrog, an ad-supported free music service, which even before Spotify was able secure the rights to free music distribution from the major record labels in return for a share of the advertising revenues;[7] SpiralFrog ultimately failed because it relied on a temporary download model, rather than streaming, but the licensees that he negotiated paved the way for the streaming music era.[8][9] Mohen has also been leader in establishing Holographic Television Broadcasting and Hologram based tourist attractions.[10]

In March 2016, Mohen published a guest blog predicting the collapse of baseball World Series television revenues unless its schedule is revamped.[11]

ADMINISTRIVIA: Volunteer wanted for the Twitter "desk"

2019-May-31

Dear fellow Jaspers:

As much as I try to cover “everything” about Jaspers, I have to admit that Twitter gets a short shrift.

I can use some help — probably a lot of help — to scan for Jasper news and sightings on Twitter.

While even just scaring would help, if you can put it on the daily blog that would be better.

I’d have to work out the “roles” (i.e., finder, reporter, editor, etc.) and if there are multiple volunteers, how to split the Twitter-verse.

I feel that the loss of Google+ was OK because that was Yet Another Source that I couldn’t keep up with.

There are several other sources but those are just my pipe dream.

Yell if you want a thankless task in the Aegean Stable.

Thanks,

fjohn68

Now this is an “adult” podcast.  Not because of the occasional “bad work” that slips out, but the topic.

If you have Democratic liberal snowflake ears or a Republican warfare big Gooferment loyalty, then you’re going to be shocked when Scott lets loose on Reagn, all the Bushes, the Clintons, and DJT45.

The “genocide” in Yemen might be a SLIGHT over statement.  When I think of “genocide”, I think of many millions killed.  Yemen has “only” racked up over a million.  I’m horrified by it but it’s hasn’t drawn any attention from the media.

In his campaign, DJT45 said the right things about "bringing all the girls, boys, women, and men home”from Afghanistan and elsewhere, that I “disliked” him less that HRC.  With her, we knew what her stance on “war” (i.e., Libya; the AfPak area, killing OBL, killing others).

I liked Scott’s point that DJT45 had a perfect excuse for ending all this “foreign adventurism” with “not my mistake; it was the Bushes' and BHO44’s policies”.  But for whatever reason, he couldn’t pull it off and allowed himself to be drawn into the mess.

Scott, imho correctly, blames the Deep State putsch against DJT45 with “Russian collusion”.

In any event, you may want to list to him with a pad and pencil a few time, because when he gets on a rant, he just rolls.

I also recommend his book “Fool’s Errand”.

I hope you’re as “touched” as I am about the “Yemen War on Civilian Infrastructure” — in the finest tradition of Abe Lincoln — and the American Navy’s blockage of food and medicine into Yemen.

Why is the USA doing Saudi Arabia’s “were work”?

Every so often I tweet to DJT45 to get us out of this humanitarain disaster.

Argh!

I am ashamed of “my” role in letting this happen.
