POSITRACTION: "It's a joy to help other people, I will die broke."

Denny Sanford, 83, made his fortune, estimated by Forbes to be at $2.2 billion, in banking and credit card companies. He said he plans to die broke, having given away his fortune. To date, he has donated $1.6 billion to causes that include health care research and services, neglected children, the University of Minnesota, education, the San Diego Children's Zoo, stem cell and breast cancer research. "It's a joy to help other people, I will die broke. Everything is committed to different organizations."

About all that’s missing is keeping it “secret".

(Ever heard that old Irish adage about "good works only count if done in secret". Means you can get your reward in Heaven or here on earth with praise; not both!  Funny, I learned that from my maternal English Protestant grandmother who wanted to teach me about my maternal grandfather's "heathen Irish culture that has a few good points". ROFL!)

You really can’t take it with you.

COMMENT: Kuhn, Rob (MC1973) doesn't understand why I blame the Gooferment

2019-May-05

Hi John ...

Thanks for replying to my question about the FAA and Boeing. In your reply, you mention "crashing on debt." It seems like we did that in 2008, thanks directly to, in oversimplified shorthand, "Wall Street." Then, rather than allow more businesses to fail as a direct result of their reckless [ I would personally say treasonous, based on the resuts ] behavior, the government made the choice to save them by propping up the short-term economy (successfully, but I know you see a long-term problem), to place some restrictions on investment banks to help them behave like banks and not reckless investors - but not to hold them or any of their principals at fault for very nearly destroying the American (and world) economy. Since then, those banks, together with the side of the government generally viewed as more "financially responsible" would like to strip away more and more of the flimsy-enough rules in place to protect consumer-citizens from rapacious businesses. I guess that, particularly in light of your "endless cycle" explanation, I don't understand why you feel like the government needs to be blamed or at least shamed ("gooferment") more than the businesses.

Thanks, once more.

Rob

Kuhn, Rob (MC1973)

[JR: I blame Gooferment, more than “business” for several reasons.  <<I think a more technically correct word would be “corporations” rather than businesses.>>  The "Limited Liability" of a “corporation” is a creation of the Gooferment.  We are indoctrinated in Gooferment Skrules and the Media propaganda that the politicians and bureaucrats are, as Tom Woods sarcastically describes, “wonderful wise people who selflessly serve the public as our overlords to keep us safe and secure”.  They really are just flawed fellow humans with their own agendas (i.e., reward their friends; punish their enemies; and feather their own nests). Structurally the Gooferment is incapable of regulating corporations due to “regulatory capture”.  So corporations are like mere mindless robots or wind-up toys that relentlessly pursue their objective of profit making. Any control of them has to be done by the Gooferment via the politicians and bureaucrats.  So for example, too big to fail banks should have merely had an “excess capital tax” (i.e., any balance sheet larger than 1T$ is taxed at 90% aka “too big to fail” is to big to exist. Kill the “department of agriculture” and its Crony Capitalists sycophants.  Make the FDA an advisory body, open the courts to people who are damaged by drugs, and reform the drug patent system, THEN watch the price of drugs fall quickly. The invisible hand of a truly free market is a much better disciplinarian than any Gooferment agency.  Just ask folks with Enron on their resume.  “Creative destruction” put corporations on notice that they are one bad decision away from “death”. Gooferment “bailouts” should never happen. The root of all evil is not women or the love of money; the true root of ALL evil in the world are Gooferment and their claim to a monopoly on force. Argh!]

Financial Operations Consultant at 3TBrands

I have proven to be a very loyal and dedicated employee, having worked 10+ years in 3 different companies. In each situation, I worked my way up the org chart and achieved my goal of becoming Chief Financial Officer in my first ten years of employment. For the most part, I have tackled very difficult environments, including poor accounting and computer sytems, regulatory violations and large net operating losses. In each case, I was successful in achieving breakeven or profitable scenarios despite limitations placed by parent companies.

In the last 10 years, I have transitioned to the Not-For-Profit sector, focusing on Financial and Operational Analysis, and Management. I was the Chief Affiliation Officer for the Affiliate at Harlem Hospital and Lincoln Medical Center. The Affiliate was a relatively new company, Physician Affiliate Group of NY, a provider of medical services to NY Hospitals.

I am beginning a search for a new, challenging position as Chief Financial Officer, or similar role, of a not-for-profit company with a solid mission. While my background is mainly Financial Services and Healthcare, I feel my well-rounded skill set of strategic planning, forecasting, product line profitability and technology management will enable me to succeed in any industry. I am currently serving on the Board of Directors for St. Sebastian Academy while preparing to work pro-bono for a not-for-profit company.

JNEWS: Murray, Eileen [MC1980] rumored being considered as CEO @ Wells Fargo

Sadomasochistic Megabank Courting Area Hedge Fund Manager To Be Its Next Dominatrix/CEO
If Wells Fargo wants Bridgewater's Eileen Murray to be its next CEO, then Wells Fargo might actually be ready to change.

Thornton McEnery

*** begin quote ***

If there's one thing we can say about Wells Fargo without a shred of doubt, it's that Wells Fargo has had a hard time in recent years being honest with itself about itself.

In fact, The Stagecoach has spent a few dozen months in quasi-absolute denial about what it did and what it has become. The bank's lame attempts at reputational rehab have consisted mostly of logo redesigns and promoting veterans to fix what their departed colleagues broke. It's been "fun" to watch...in the same way that watching a drunk slip and fall in their own vomit is "fun."

But today we have a little piece of news that leads us to believe that Wells Fargo might finally be interested in some major introspection:

Bridgewater Associates co-Chief Executive Officer Eileen Murray has held repeated conversations inside and outside of the firm about leaving the world’s largest hedge fund, according to people familiar with the matter.

Ms. Murray was recently contacted by representatives of Wells Fargo & Co. about the bank’s open CEO role, people familiar with the matter said. Wells Fargo representatives also called people close to Ms. Murray as part of that process. Ms. Murray subsequently tipped off the job possibility to others at Bridgewater, these people said.

Obituary: John C. Clegg
By John Corrigan

John C. Clegg, father of Clegg Promo (asi/45450) founder and CEO Tim Clegg and company president Kevin Clegg, passed away on May 4.

Clegg was class president and valedictorian in high school, a mathematics major at Manhattan College, a computer programmer at Sperry Gyroscope, manager of information systems at ATO/SMG and then chief information officer at Standard Products.

In 1994, Clegg threw himself into a new role as gadfly, ombudsman and outside factory rep for Clegg Industries. He relished traveling through Ohio and the Midwest, visiting distributors in offices, parking lots, homes and barns. Not only did he become a master at presenting the Clegg line, he also became well known on the trade show circuit. In addition to presenting, he was a tireless proofreader and editor for numerous Clegg and Americhip catalogs.

Community service was the work Clegg most enjoyed and for which he will be lovingly remembered. He was a coach, referee and commissioner of the basketball program for the Chagrin Athletic Association, a board member on the Chagrin Valley Rec Center, a lector at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church and a fixture at all Chagrin Falls High School sporting events for over 50 years.

“Our Dad loved Clegg and Americhip and he gave his all to make us a better organization,” said Tim and Kevin. “We were so blessed to have him as our father and equally as fortunate to have him as part of the Clegg and Americhip team. We’ll continue to work hard, do well, improve, treat people well and make a difference in what we do and in how we do it. We know that would make our Dad very proud of us.”

Clegg was a beloved husband to Eileen Dearie Clegg for 59 years. He was the father of seven children and 21 grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a “Membership Scholarship in the Name of John C. Clegg” at the Chagrin Valley Rec. Center, PO Box 84, Chagrin Falls, OH 44022.

Manhattan College radio station back on air five years after shuttering

MANHATTAN COLLEGE -

Five years after being shuttered due to lack of personnel, Manhattan College's student-run radio station WRCM is back on the air thanks to the determination of a team of students.

Sophomore Samantha Walla, leader of the WRCM team, says, "When I went to college, a lot of my friends were doing radio shows and I wanted that sense of community. Radio on a college campus is such an integral part of the student community and to not have that - we felt like there was something missing."

ENDNOTE: Crony Capitalism — Nashville style

2019-May-11

https://www.lewrockwell.com/lrc-blog/corporate-welfare-in-nashville/

Corporate Welfare in Nashville
Thomas DiLorenzo

*** begin quote ***

I read that the city government of Nashville gave the NFL $3 million as part of the deal to hold the NFL draft there.  It’s probably a lot more when one counts all the police overtime, thousands of portable toilets, public works cleanup after 300,000 drunken football fans, etc.  Among the major beneficiaries of these handouts, besides the NFL billionaire team owners, appear to be the wealthy country music stars who own bars and restaurants on Music Row where more than 100,000 extra customers per day gathered for the better part of a week.  Blake Shelton, Dierkes Bentley, Luke Bryan, and others all own big restaurants and bars there.

Much of that $3 million ended up in their bank accounts as a result of a quadrupling or more of their weekend business.  The taxpaying residents, on the other hand, were screwed with impossible traffic and crowds everywhere, noise, trash galore, jacked-up prices at bars and restaurants, etc.

This seems to be the modus operandi of towns that are “tourist destinations”:  The purpose of local government there is not to “serve the public” but to make more money for the bar and restaurant owners there who in turn finance the political careers of the political hacks on the city council and the mayor’s office.

*** end quote ***

So why don’t the NFL owners and the local business folks pay for their parties?

Why always does the taxpayer get screwed?

When will “We, The Sheeple” wake up to the rip off?

Answers:  (1) They don’t have to.  (2) The Taxpayer is the “wallet at the end of the rainbow”.  (3) Never!
