Kindness is now “just another brick in the wall” of Roger Waters’ amazing career since he helped facilitate an emotional family reunion for a mother and sons separated for four years.
Felicia Perkins-Ferreira has not had a good night’s sleep on the Caribbean island of Trinidad since her two sons were abducted from home by their father.
The boys, now 7 and 11 years old, were brought to Syria in 2014 where their father was fighting for the Islamic State. After he was presumed killed in conflict in 2017, the boys were taken to the border by their stepmother—but then abandoned on the side of the road, only to end up in a Syrian refugee camp.
A human rights lawyer named Clive Stafford Smith heard about the family’s plight, and reached out to his friend for help—Pink Floyd co-founder Roger Waters.

ROBILOTTI—Richard V., a lifelong resident of Greenwich Village, passed away on March 30, 2019 at age 75. Son of Dr. James G. and Theresa Robilotti, Richard was a proud graduate of Manhattan College and earned Master's Degrees from both the University of Virginia, Charlottesville, VA, and Columbia University, NY. He retired as a Deputy Commissioner for the United States Department of Labor after a 43-year career. The funeral service will be private.

Dr. Timothy J. Cleary is an associate professor in the Graduate School of Applied and Professional Psychology (GSAPP) at Rutgers University. He earned his B.S. in Psychology from Manhattan College, his master's degree and professional certification in School Psychology from Queens College, and his Ph.D. in Educational Psychology from CUNY Graduate School and University Center.
Dr. Cleary worked as a school psychologist during the first three years of his career. After serving as an Assistant and Associate Professor in the Department of Educational Psychology at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee from 2004 to 2012, he joined the faculty at GSAPP in the Fall of 2012.
Dr. Cleary devotes most of his time to conducting research on SRL and motivation-realted intervention and assessment issues as well as emerging trends and professional issues among school-based practitioners and educators. He has secured several research grants to support his research initiatives and has consulted at a national and international level.
Throughout his career, Dr. Cleary has taught graduate level courses in cognitive-behavioral therapy, academic assessment and interventions, cognitive assessment, learning theory, and SRL assessment and intervention practices.
In terms of service and leadership, Dr. Cleary serves on multiple editorial boards for top-tier journals, including The Journal of Educational Psychology, Journal of School Psychology, and Metacognition and Learning, and the Journal of Experimental Education. He has also served in a leadership capacity for numerous years on the executive board of the Studying and Self-Regulated Learning (SSRL) Special Interest Group for AERA from 2008-2014.

Loving father of Veronica (Rick) McCullough- Sheppard, Irene (Bob) Pritchett, Ellen (Steve) Suetholz, Monica, James (Beth), Patrick (Peggy) and Michael (Mary Jo) McCullough. Born in Bronx, NY, served in the U.S. Navy at the end of WWII, then graduated from Manhattan College, NY and earned his MBA from XU. He was on the Board of the Archdiocese of Cincinnati , Oak Hills School board and other organizations too many to name.
Jim was also an avid traveler. Every summer he packed up his wife, seven kids and camper to explore the US and Canada, stopping at every state capitol and historical site along the way. Later Jim and Monica traveled to Europe, Asia and Caribbean, he always joked that he wanted to die falling off of a llama in the Andes.
Passed away peacefully on Saturday, Masrch 30, 2019 at 93 years of age.

A very special person, beloved by everyone
Marcy Joseph Ramos, 71, passed away on April 1, 2019, at home.
Marcy graduated from Monsignor Farrell High School. He threw the first touchdown pass at Farrell. He then graduated from Manhattan College. He worked as a self-employed mechanical engineer. Marcy loved playing all sports, and most recently became an avid golfer. He was a voracious reader, especially science fiction. He also loved vacationing at Long Beach Island, and traveling extensively all over the globe. He was a warm, loving and gentle man and a "do-it-yourselfer." Marcy was a very special person and beloved by everyone.
Marcy is survived by his wife, Nancy; his children, Taryn Ramos and Jessamyn DePaola (Vincent); his stepsons, Adam, Alex and Joseph Lisiewski; a brother, Joseph Ramos (Veronica); a sister, Joan Macaluso (Jack); eight grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and great nieces and great nephews.
A funeral service will be held at Bedell-Pizzo Funeral Home on Friday at 11 a.m. Cremation will be private. Friends may visit on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Deputy Superintendent Michael J. Deegan has been named the interim superintendent for Catholic schools in the Archdiocese of New York, according to an announcement Tuesday from Cardinal Timothy Dolan, archbishop of New York.
Deegan has assumed the position until the search is completed and a new superintendent has been named.
“Mike Deegan is one of the most dedicated and talented Catholic educators our schools have had,” said Dolan. “We are honored and blessed to have his support and to have him serve in this interim role as we continue our search for a new superintendent for Catholic schools.”
In the coming months, Cardinal Dolan will name a new superintendent following the retirement of Dr. Timothy J. McNiff.
Deegan has served in Catholic education for nearly 40 years.
He was a teacher at the following schools: Iona Grammar School in New Rochelle; Power Memorial Academy in Manhattan, and Sacred Heart School in Manhattan. He served as principal at both St. Francis Xavier School and St. Jude School, which are both in Manhattan, and was headmaster of Iona Grammar School.
In 2004, he was appointed director of inner city schools to help oversee the 122 elementary and secondary inner-city schools that served more than 60,000 children at the time.
In 2013, he was appointed deputy superintendent of schools.
Deegan is a graduate of St. Philip Neri School in the Bronx and Rice High School in Manhattan. He received a bachelor’s degree from Iona College and a master’s degree from the College of New Rochelle.
He completed post graduate studies at Manhattan College and Fordham University.

Richard Bruce Krall, born on April 23, 1950 in Yonkers, New York, to the late Mary Smith Krall and the late John Krall, passed away at age 68 on March 30, 2019 in St Augustine, Florida. He graduated from Sacred Heart High School in Yonkers, NY in 1968 and from Manhattan College in 1972.
Richard was preceded in death by his brother, John Krall Jr. and sister, Denise Huggins. He is survived by his sisters, Patricia Krall (Cary Frederick) and Kathleen Dawson (Bruce) and many nieces and nephews, as well as grand nieces and nephews.
Richard was a member of Mensa International, the international high IQ society, and he loved to travel, especially to Europe. He was well known for sending funny greeting cards to friends and family. Mass of Christian Burial will be held May 11, 2019, at the Monastery Church of the Sacred Heart in Yonkers, NY.

Mike McEneney asks for our prayers for the repose of the soul of Mrs. Lil Cahill. Lil, Mrs. Cahill was called home yesterday, April 3, 2019 in Ireland. Mrs. Cahill is the Mother of Mary a good friend of Mike and Kathy McEneney. Mrs. Cahill was 93 years old. We pray for Lil, we pray for Mary and their Family as the Family mourn the loss of their loved one. We pray that the knowledge that Mrs. Cahill is at rest in God's Eternal Embrace in the Kingdom of Heaven will help ease the pain of their loss. 2019-Apr-06I ask for your prayers for the repose of the soul of Francis "Danny" Poggi, 70 years of age, Wilmington, DE. Danny a good Friend and Neighbor was called home on April 2, 2019. A heart attack that he did not survive. Danny was a long haul trucker for more than 30 years, no accidents, no faults. He loved what be did, looked forward to retirement. Fishing was his passion along with his beautiful Indian Motorcycle that he regretted selling for a more modern BMW. Danny was a good man who always tried to do the right thing, a pretty good way to live a life. God Speed Danny. Thank you. God Bless.

Jean M. Cross, artist, educator, historian and author, passed away in Prescott Valley, Arizona, at the age of 94 on Monday, April 1, 2019. She was looking forward to her next adventure!
As one of the area’s foremost historians on the history and culture of the Prescott area, Jean’s contributions have left lasting legacies for generations to come. Jean published a book in 2009 through Arcadia Press titled, “Prescott Valley, Images of America.” When Jean was in her eighties, she and her friend, Jerry Munderloh, created the Mining Exhibit and Trail for the Visually Impaired at Prescott Valley’s Fain Park. She received the Community Improvement Award in 2002 and the Heritage Award in 2008 from Prescott Valley’s Chamber of Commerce for her dedication to the area’s heritage preservation.
Jean wrote articles for the Prescott Courier and the Prescott Valley Tribune over several years concerning the historic events, people and landmarks of the area. She teamed with other community leaders to establish the “Old Town Historic District,” also in Prescott Valley and laid down ideas for many trails in the area, including the Glassford Hill Trail. On her 94th birthday she was able to stand at the top of Glassford Hill thanks to the kindness of Town Manager Larry Tarkowski. It was one of her happiest days! Jean was born to Lillian (nee Mahaney) and Lester Cross in upstate Cortland, New York, on Sept 19, 1924. She had an older sister and brother, Nancy and Richard (Dick). She graduated with honors from St. Mary’s High School in 1942 and then obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Education, also with honors, from Cortland State University of New York (SUNY) in 1946. She belonged to Kappa Delta Pi honorary sorority for 73 years. Jean earned two Master’s degrees: a Master of Fine Arts from Catholic University in Washington, D.C., in 1959 and a Master of Arts in Education from Manhattan College, Riverdale, New York, in 1965. She retired from teaching in the State of New York in 1980. She moved to the Prescott area in 1980, proud of driving a U-Haul by herself across the United States. She had one of the first homes built in Yavapai Hills because of her great interest in all things “Tom Mix.”
Her retirement years were filled traveling the Southwest and with volunteering activities such as: Sharlot Hall Museum (25 years), Arizona Archaeological Society, Prescott Walking Tours, Art Docents, Yavapai Trails Association Board, Prescott National Forest Volunteers, Sacred Heart and St. Germaine Church Choirs, Prescott Valley Historical Society, and Dewey-Humboldt Historical Society. A firm believer in “use it or lose it!” Jean walked every day until a month ago. She was an accomplished wood carver, potter and artist. Her passion for Western and Native American history, culture and art was evidenced in all her surroundings.
Jean never married and had no children, but she is survived by many who loved her: Her nephew, William (Chris) Cross of Peoria and great-nephew Jeremy (Valerie) Cross of Phoenix and their children, Marshall, Avery, and Grace, as well as the Grovenstein Family, Glenn and Darcy and their children, Whitney, Emory, Ezekiel and Lacy and families. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister, brother, and nephew, Edward Cross.
A Celebration Of Life Mass will be held at St. Germaine’s Catholic Church on Tuesday, April 9, 2019, at 10:30 a.m., with a luncheon following. (She was one of the oldest members of the parish and on the original building committee.)
Funeral arrangements entrusted to Sunrise Funeral Home. Donations can be made to St. Germaine’s Building Fund or St. Jude’s Hospital.

I was preparing to write about another issue when suddenly sad news of one’s passing is heard throughout the city. Sometimes we need to take a step back and realize the importance of living life to its fullest. It’s when hearing about the recent passing of one special person that made me think about how we need to slow down and enjoy every moment. It’s waiting in line that a thought occurs as how I should begin to write about a person who dedicated his life of service to this community. Montgomery County and the City of Amsterdam will truly miss this person. It was for sure a memorable moment to see a countless number of friends waiting in line for their turn to share briefly with relatives and family of this man’s life and how he lived it. Recalling this person’s life, I’m also recalling the word “family” which is symbolic of this city where he was born. This person also had a strong faith along with many, many, friends. If you think of family names there are many that have made their mark in our community. Thankfully we still have well-known and well-respected families residing here. Whether it’s running a family restaurant, a law firm or funeral home when their name was mentioned good things would be said. Folks, it’s sad to say that another well-respected member of this community with an identifiable family name is no longer with us. His name is Joseph Riley. Standing in line waiting to pay my respects thoughts as to how he lived his life came to mind. It was not a surprise to see so many people coming to pay their respects for the last time. Joe Riley was someone who showed compassion towards this city. It’s only fitting for we as a community to remember Joe for his service, compassion, respect and friendship.

You Should Own Gold

Maybe you have some gold (and silver) but not enough. Maybe you haven’t added to your stash for quite awhile, and you kinda’ forgot why you bought it in the first place.
Or perhaps you don’t own any precious metals at all!
If one of these circumstances fits you, then it’s time to refresh your memory on the multiple reasons why you should own gold, assess your risk profile and unique financial circumstances… then act!
The oft-stated Gresham’s Law tells us that when a government dictates the exchange rate between different types of money, the “good,” or undervalued method of exchange gets chased out by the “bad,” or overvalued version.
Thus the “bad” money stays in circulation and, as debasement (inflation) picks up, is quickly spent.
Unbeknownst to most – for now – U.S. inflation (greatly understated by “official” statistics) is increasing across the board. It doesn’t need to hit double digits in order to move the dial on gold and silver prices. Invariably, the “smart money” sniffs out the potential well beforehand – which is what it’s been doing for the last 9 months!
The “good” money in the U.S. is in reference to gold after FDR’s infamous 1933 edict banning circulation… and later, the removal of silver from our coinage starting in 1965.
Today, a pre-1965 quarter at $16/ounce silver is worth about $2.75. Why would anyone exchange it for an 8% copper/92% nickel slug? As for a gold coin, don’t even bother doing the math!
In Venezuela, according to the IMF, inflation will rocket along this year at 10 million percent! How long do you think the ironically-named Bolivar Fuerte (“strong bolivar”) stays in someone’s pocket, bank account, backpack… or large cardboard box?

Now anyone, who knows me, knows I’m a Crazy Old “Gold Bug”.
In my working life, I’ve met optimists and pessimists. I learned from both. From the optimists, never gamble what you can afford to lose. From the pessimists, if you always expect the worst, every surprise will be a pleasant one. (Like Murphy’s Law, I’ve egotistically named it “Reinke’s Rule of Negative Thinking”. Maybe someday, I too will be famous or infamous.)
If you follow what pretends to be economic thinking these days on the both the Left and the Right, there’s something called “Modern Monetary Theory”. Distilled to a nugget, it’s basically that the Gooferment can’t print as much “money” as it needs until it sees price inflation. That’s it. Stripped of all the mumbo jumbo and fancy pontificating. The dollar “floats” untied to anything. That’s the legacy of FDR and Nixon.
So sad. Thankfully, I don’t think I’ll be around to see the crash, but this is one UGLY chicken coming home to roost.
