POSITRACTION: Yet another demonstration about how little humans "know"2019-Jan-27https://whowhatwhy.org/2019/01/26/discovered-a -previously-unknown-structure-in-the-human-body/ VIDEO JANUARY 26, 2019 | KIRSTY VITARELLI DISCOVERED — A PREVIOUSLY UNKNOWN STRUCTURE IN THE HUMAN BODY *** begin quote *** This week’s video is a perfect storm of weird and wonderful, all squashed into a very matter-of-fact science explainer. There’s a dose of odd science in the form of an almost mythical-sounding procedure. It has helped researchers identify a previously unknown structure of the human body, just when we thought we knew everything there was to know. This discovery, in turn, holds hope for the improved treatment of a widespread disease and an often fatal medical event. As a weird bonus, it also explains a mystery of combat surgery. And did we mention that indispensable pinch of cinnamon? In an effort to understand how white blood cells move from the bone marrow — where they’re made — to sites of infection and injury in the body, scientists decided to study the arteries and veins known to reside within the spongy interior of bones. The team, from the Institute for Experimental Immunology and Imaging at the University of Duisburg-Essen in Germany, found more than they were bargaining for. “Bones need a closed circulatory loop (CCL) to function properly,” said Dr. Anika Grüneboom from the University Hospital in Erlangen, the main author of the study. “This CCL delivers fresh blood via arteries into the bone and transports used blood out via veins. How exactly the CCL … functions was not totally clear — until now.” *** and *** TCVs have also been found in the skull — where they connect directly to the surface of the brain. A team of researchers from Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard University stained a kind of immune cell called a neutrophil, and watched it use TCVs to travel into the body. Understanding how these immune cells travel through the TCV network could help treat stroke patients, and ease the symptoms of inflammatory conditions like arthritis. *** end quote *** Sure, we humans like to think we’re smart and know a lot of “stuff”, but every so often we learn a basic fact that demonstrates that we don’t know squat. Now how these TCVs can be exploit for the benefit of humanity remains to be seen. I wonder what else we don’t know. Seems like pane four of the JoHari window is a lot bigger than we realize. We don’t know what we don’t know. Never mind that also we don’t know how much of what we do know is wrong. Argh! Let’s get going to correct this. Starting with some humility and awe might be in order. # - # - # - # - # |

PRAYERSREQUESTED: Colon, Philip J. (MC1962) prays for four2019-Jan-27Good Evening All, I ask for your prayers for the following Intensions. My Sister-in-law, Joann, has been in our prayers and we need to raise the volume. She has been diagnosed with a good sized Tumor in one of her lungs and a very small one in her other lung. The large tumor is Cancer. This week, Tuesday or Thursday, the Surgeon will be performing a procedure to Shrink the tumor in preparation to excise it. There are other steps to be taken and the very small tumor will be continued to be looked at. The Surgeon and her regular Doctor are optimistic. Joann is a fighter with a positive attitude and strong of Faith. Please raise the volume for her and her Family I have heard from my Friend in Boise, Idaho with an update on her Niece, Lisa Hatfield, for whom we have been praying. The MDs this week set out to harvest Lisa's Stem Cells for a later transplant. They hoped to harvest 10,000 to 12,000 Cells but were able to harvest over 15,000 which is so much better. Lisa's Remission rate looks promising. As Lisa says, " Thank you so much, Prayer works." This is the gift Of Hope in a very difficult time for her and her Family. Please keep the prayers coming for this courageous and strong of Faith young woman. I ask for your prayers for Jen McCoy, a Friend of our Niece, Kerry. In May of 2016, we had Jen, a single Mom, two small children, on our prayer list as she was diagnosed with Leukemia. The Doctors got to work, agressively treating Jen. Jen's Leukemia was arrested and she was gjven a clean bill of health. Jen let us know on Friday that her Leukemia has returned. She asks for our prayers once again as the Doctors begin the process once again. Please raise the volume for Jen. I ask for your continued prayers for my Wife Peggy. The last procedure on her eye moved 75% of the displaced Descemet Membrane back in place. It seems to have had some positive resultant but her vision is still not as good as before her Cataract removal brought this problem to the surface. She has received a new prescription for Sun Glasses. She feels there is improvement but to me it seems to be stop gap but as the specialists at Johns Hopkins suggested she go ahead with this initial procedure and give it some time, this is what we are doing before she decides on returning to Johns Hopkins. They took the idea that a Corneal Transplant, as suggested by the Surgeon in Wilmington as a possible next step, off the table. So, in this waiting period, I ask that you keep Peggy in your prayers as we pray that her eye and vision improve. Thank you from all those for whom I have asked for your prayers. Please keep the volume up. Thank you. God Bless. Colon, Philip J. (MC1962) # - # - # - # - # 2019-Jan-27 @ 21:59 |

Tom graduated from Padua High School in Watkins Glen, taught by the Christian Brothers, weaving the moral fabric of his life. Watkins Glen was a place of nature he knew deeply and referred to often in his life. He earned a bachelor's degree in biology from Manhattan College in 1969, and went on to have two careers, one in information technology and the other as an entrepreneur. Tom's I.T. career began when mainframe computers arrived in the late sixties on Wall Street. He started out at the brokerage firm, Eastman Dillon, as a computer operator. Tom took exams for programming, and scored 100% at the top of the class. He then worked at several companies as an I.T. specialist, and then manager, including Honeywell, Commercial Credit, Simon and Shuster, and ultimately director of MIS at American Express. In the 1990's, Tom started his first entrepreneurial venture, New York Homebrew, at the start of a boom in homebrew interest and enthusiasm. Then in 2001, Tom and Jackie opened Haven Art. The arts and crafts studio became a resource for the Long Island community of artists, professional or hobbyists, to create and share their work. Tom ran his businesses with heart and generosity to all for nearly 20 years. Thomas Kello is survived by his wife, Jacqueline; their two sons, Christopher and David; and their grandchildren, Thomas and Emma. ENDNOTE: It certainly seems that the current divide is "good versus evil"2019-Feb-02https://christianmerc.blogspot.com/2019/01/a-better-understanding-of-evil.html?m=1 Christian Mercenary This nation was founded on the God-given right of liberty. All things must be weighed against that right. Tyranny, oppression and suppression are evil and must be opposed. SATURDAY, JANUARY 19, 2019 A Better Understanding of Evil *** begin quote *** The book attempts to explain in a scholarly way the issues many of us have been writing about for years, a thing Mike Vanderboegh said in Lies of Omission, that we are a nation not "divided" so much as diametrically opposed to each other. While nothing, so far, has been revealed in the book that is not already known (it was published in 2011) it attempts to go further back with the explanation for what we are currently witnessing on a large and vivid scale. The point was made, at least argued, that the Western culture and especially American culture is at a crossroads, the origin of each intersecting road going back to before the Enlightenment. What we see now as a liberal/conservative or a republican/communist conflict is actually a conflict between modernist and postmodernist point of view versus a Judeo-Christian culture. While I am not sure that I will ultimately buy into the concept that the Judeo-Christian culture seeks beauty, truth and love, I am not finished reading the book and will reserve judgment until then. The authors did do a great job of explaining the opposite side of the coin and one passage sticks out immediately. (Speaking of the left and by this I mean Republicans, too, because there is no longer and may never have been a true difference between Republicans and Democrats. What Pontynen and Miller describe could be any politician and it is the whole of the body politic in America that subscribes to the modernist-postmodernist point of view.) The passage is this: "They rationalize power, envy and greed in the name of virtue, or claim it (virtue) is beyond rational discursive evaluation." *** end quote *** Well, this reinforces my belief that there is little difference between the R’s and the D’s. And, just maybe, it is the epic continual battle between good and evil. Looking at Pepuls Republik of Nu Jerk’s “Catholic” Cuomo and abortion certainly makes it obvious. # - # - # - # - # |
