POSITRACTION: An average person figures out how to save birds

One Cat’s Obsession With Hunting Birds Leads to Invention That Has Saved Hundreds of Thousands
By McKinley Corbley-Dec 12, 2018

*** begin quote ***

Cats kill a staggering number of birds in the U.S. every year—estimated to be in the billions—but one feline’s affinity for hunting them has inadvertently led to the salvation of hundreds of thousands of other feathered prey.

Back in 2008, Nancy Brennan was sick and tired of her cat George bring dead birds into her home. Not only was it a distasteful thing to find on her living room floor, it was also heartbreaking for the enthusiastic birdwatcher.

“His first catch one spring was a ruffed grouse, which he killed and brought into the house,” Brennan told the Burlington Free Press. “I was so disgusted, I literally said out loud, ‘I’m going to stop you, George.’”

As she pondered how to curb George’s hunting habits, she recalled reading an article about how birds notice bright colors. So she grabbed some rainbow fabric and sewed up a bright collar that he could wear around his neck as an early warning system for the birds.

Interesting how an average person can make such a discovery?

What have I done lately?

PRAYERSREQUESTED:Colon, Philip J. (MC1962) prays for Peggy

Good Evening All,

I ask for your prayers for my Wife, Peggy. She will have surgery tomorrow morning, 6:30 AM, more or less, to try and repair her eye problem, specifically, repair her Cornea (right eye) Descemet Membrane Displacement, kind of rare problem. Peggy's vision is very blurred and has not improved since her Glaucoma Cataract removal surgery on August 2, 2018. As the Descemet problem was diagnosed, we were told that if tomorrow's surgery did not work, Corneal Transplant would be required. After a visit with the Specialists at the Wilmer Eye Institute, Johns Hopkins Hospital, a second opinion, Transplant will not be the way to go, certainly not at this time and Peggy and I are a lot more confident. Please pray for a successful outcome tomorrow, Tuesday, 12/18/18. Thank you all. God Bless.

JNEWS: Philbin, Thomas [MC????] takes LBE award

Thomas Philbin takes LBE award

Thomas Philbin, Westwood's Energy Manager, was honored at the Massachusetts State House on December 6, 2018 with a Public Sector Individual Award in the 12th annual Leading by Example (LBE) awards. These awards, given by the Baker-Polito administration, recognize those who promote clean energy and sustainable initiatives. Additionally, Philbin was awarded congratulatory citations on the LBE award by the Massachusetts State Senate and Legislature.

Philbin received this honor for introducing numerous clean energy initiatives and encouraging broad stakeholder collaboration across the Town of Westwood. Initially, Philbin’s position was funded by a DOER Green Communities Energy Manager two year grant award. Since that time, the town has enthusiastically continued funding the Energy Manager position based on Philbin’s early accomplishments, which include efforts advancing the installation of 780 kW of solar in the town, extensive energy efficiency projects, initiating efforts for DOER Green Community designation, and planning for future "near zero energy” buildings.

*** and ***

Philbin is an alumnus of the Manhattan College with a BS in Physics and the University of Michigan with a Masters and PhD in Environmental Health Sciences.

ENDNOTE: Will “Visitation School” be a Gooferment Skrule?

Visitation remains empty while neighbors wait
Posted December 16, 2018

Visitation School, located 171 W. 239th St., was once a vibrant of the community, having served the area for 85 years by the time it closed its doors for good in 2017. Local elected officials would love to transform it into a public school, which would help ease overcrowding in nearby schools.

*** begin quote ***

Just search for “Visitation School” on Google, and you’ll find bright red letters reminding you it’s permanently closed.

After 85 years, the classrooms at the West 239th Street school emptied one last time, and its adjoining church was merged with St. John Church on Kingsbridge Avenue.

But what’s next for this site? During a recent town hall, Assemblyman Jeffrey Dinowitz shot down rumors the property was bought by nearby Manhattan College, and expressed hope that Rome would sell the site to the education board for a much-needed school.

Such plans couldn’t come soon enough for Gene Binder.

“There is a need for space to combat overcrowding in District 10,” said Binder, a member of the activist group Concerned Citizens for Change, and a retired teacher. “I don’t know about numbers in specific schools in the district, but I know there are overcrowded schools in this district.”

A published report in 2015 agrees with Binder, calling District 10 — which covers nearly 80 schools in this part of the Bronx — the most overcrowded with 5,000 students too many filling public hallways.

*** end quote ***

And why should the Roman Catholic Church sell it to "the city"?

It’s a monument to the futility of trying to compete with Gooferment Skrules.

Separation of Church and State should begin with the Separation of Education and Gooferment!

So sad.
