POSITRACTION: Hiker Was About to Die in a Snowstorm ... ... ...

Hiker Was About to Die in a Snowstorm When She Was Saved by a Total Stranger Following Her Intuition
By McKinley Corbley-Nov 11, 2018

*** begin quote ***

Nancy couldn’t shake the feeling that Katharina was in danger, so she called rescue services and told them about the missing hiker. Since she knew that Groene had planned on hiking 15 miles every day, she calculated how far along the trail the German hiker would likely be based on the weather and how much she was carrying.

Sgt. John Adams of the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue Unit said, “She told us she would probably be north of Mica Lake but south of the Suiattle River—which ended up being right on.”

Sure enough, Groene had slowed to a pace of 7 miles per day trying to reach a ranger’s station 30 miles away. She was soaking wet and showing signs of hypothermia and frostbite. She was running out of food and the tarp that had kept her tent dry had blown away in the wind. Her cell phone had lost service by the time she woke up in whiteout conditions.

She was prepared for the worst—but then suddenly, a rescue helicopter spotted her red jacket based on Nancy’s precise calculations. Katharina was saved.

She was invited to stay with Nancy at her home, where the two have become ‘Wild’ friends—and even though she didn’t complete the trail, she got to check off that box: Faith in humanity restored!

2018-Nov-17

Good Evening All,

From Mike McEneney, we pray for the repose of the soul of Mike's good Friend, Arty Reilly. Arty has been in our prayers and was called home on Friday, November 16, 2018 after a long illness. As Mike has said, Arty, former Chief Clerk of the City of New York, will be missed and remembered by the many people that he touched over the years, may he Rest in Peace. We remember in our prayers Arty's Family as they mourn the loss of their loved one. Thank you. God Bless.

JEMAIL: Kuhn, Rob (MC1973) says "just whining" is no solution

2018-Nov-18

Hi John ...

The Liberal Arts side is chiming in here. Per your endnote, which offices have you run for?

Because just whining certainly isn't any sort of solution. And whining in the guise of street-smarts -- as the author of the piece you quoted is doing -- is worse. Has he or she run for office? Is that author hiding some great idea because he or she believes the rest of us are too dumb to deserve to read (and maybe implement) it? No, actually, I think that author is possibly being sucked toward Goethe's greatest sin. I'll leave that as MY puzzle for him or her to solve.

If you want to see the light at the end of the tunnel, though, I recommend checking out "The Ballad of Buster Scruggs" -- in some theaters but also streaming in Netflix.

Cheers, John!

Rob

[JR: (1) In my younger days, I tried for the R local committee. Wasn’t selected. I soon realized that the deck was stacked. I think the author that I cited is pointing out that “stacking”.  That, and the Fed, has impoverished us. Gooferment Skrules produce useful idiots. It’s a hopeless situation and we just have to survive as best we all can. (2) I’ll check it out but I don’t do a lot of movies. And, when I do, it’s comedies. (3) Thanks for the response.]

JEMAIL: Colon, Philip J. (MC1962) "Happy Thanksgiving"

2018-Nov-21

Hello Dear Friends,

As we get ready for Thanksgiving, it is a beautiful time to join in our hearts and minds to give thanks for God’s Blessings. It is a time when we in giving thanks and in some way sharing with those less fortunate, we can remember how Blessed we are. Our Pastor down here in Delaware, Father Ed Ogden, urges us, as we close our day, to begin our prayers by remembering what we are grateful for for the day. I can tell you that you are on my list of that for which I am grateful at the end of each day.

Happy Thanksgiving. Thank you. God Bless.

Mother had 'no other choice' but to sell her 6-year-old daughter
By Nick Paton Walsh and Masoud Popalzai, CNN
Updated 4:24 AM ET, Thu November 22, 2018

*** begin quote ***

Herat, Afghanistan (CNN)An unprecedented drought in Afghanistan has led to families selling their children just to be able to feed their households.

*** and ***

Outside Herat, in a refugee camp, a CNN cameraman met Mamareen, who has lost her husband to the war, her home to the climate and now her daughter to the urgent need to feed her other children. Akila, 6, is now, under the warped economy of this tent city, the possession of another family. Mamareen sold Akila for $3,000 to Najmuddin, who has promised her to his 10-year-old son, Sher Agha.

"I fled my village with my three children because of severe drought," she says. "I came here thinking that I will receive some assistance, but I got nothing. To avoid starvation among my children, I gave my daughter to a man for about $3,000, but have only got $70 so far. I had no money, no food and no breadwinner -- my husband was also killed."

Asked if Akila knew her fate, she said: "She doesn't know that I have sold her. How would she know? She is a child. But I had no other choice. Whether in tears or laughter, she will have to go. Who would sell a piece of her heart unless they really have to?"

A charitable act?

Her fate lay meters away, in another, richer tent in the camp, with Najmuddin, her purchaser. Part of this transaction is cultural -- part of the mores of a society where girls have long been traded for dowries rather than being asked for consent. But to Najmuddin, this was an act of charity.

"Her family didn't have anything to eat. They were hungry," he said. "I know I am also poor, but I am sure I can pay it off slowly... in two to three years."

The Afghan cameraman asked, aren't they children? "It doesn't matter. These things happen here. Even an old man marries a young girl. It happens."

*** end quote ***

As “we” celebrate “Thanksgiving”, it seems appropriate to take a look at the humanitarian disaster that out Gooferment is causing around the world.

Perhaps, instead of spending blood and treasure on “troops” to fight the “enemy”, we could bring all the boys and girls home and let the locals work out their own problems.  “We” could use the money spent on war to buy local products to stimulate a free local market that will bring prosperity for all.

Then, everyone can have "Happy" Thanksgiving?

PRAYERSREQUESTED: Colon, Philip J. (MC1962) prays for Sarah

2018-Nov-23

Good Evening All,

I ask for your continued prayers and to raise the volume for our young Friend, Sarah. Her operation last week to remove the Heart Tumor was successful but she developed some dangerous lung problems/blood clots and her stability was in question so that the Doctors have not been able to get to evaluate her Cancer concerns. It is possible that she does not have Ovarian Cancer but another very serious condition. Sarah is being transferred to the University of Pennsylvania Hospital in Philadelphia, PA that is much better prepared to handle Sarah's condition. Please raise the volume for Sarah, her Husband Marty and their two young boys. Sarah is a fighter but she needs our prayers. She and her Family thank you for all your prayers and kind thoughts. Thank you. God Bless.
