NJ MAN FINDS BAG WITH $10,000 CASH — WOULD YOU DO WHAT HE DID?
ASSOCIATED PRESS — November 2, 2018

*** begin quote ***

RUNNEMEDE — Police say a New Jersey man "did the honest thing" when he called police about a bag containing $10,000 in cash he found lying on the street.

Rob Phy, 48, says he was driving home when he spotted the bag in the street. NJ.com reports the Runnemede resident got out of his car and kicked the bag, expecting trash.

Instead he discovered wads of cash. Phy says he took a picture, then moved it to the side and called police.

*** end quote ***

Wow, honest IS the best policy but one has to wonder what “you’d do”.

I hope that I could be that good.

What would you do?

PRAYERSREQUESTED: Colon, Philip J. (MC1962) prays for Sarah

Good Evening All,

Peggy and I have just heard of a good friend of our Niece Kerry and of ours, Sarah C. Sarah is a lovely young Mother of two young Boys and Wife of a fine man, Marty. Just this past week Sarah has been diagnosed with a Heart Tumor, Ovarian Cancer, and other concerns. She had taken herself to the E.R. because she did not feel well and was concerned. Tests done quickly revealed the above. Today, Monday, November 5, 2018, Sarah will have Surgery for the Heart Tumor before The Doctors address the other issues. We ask you to raise the volume for Sarah. We pray that God's Hand guide the Surgeons for the safe and complete removal, free of complication, of the Tumor and allow the Doctors to quickly address the Cancer. We pray that God's Healing Hand and Love are felt by Sarah and her Family. We pray that God's Grace gives Sarah, Marty, their two Boys and Family the strength and support they will need during this so difficult time. We ask that you raise the volume for this young Family and keep them in your prayers. Michael O'Rourke, the O'Rourke Family, whose Prayer Group prays with us has shared the following prayer from Saint John Vianney, an 18th Century French Parish Priest. The prayer resonated with me and helped Peggy and I focus our prayers for Sarah and her Family. Please Allow me to share it with you.

In Happy Days, Praise God.

In Difficult Days, Seek God.

In Quiet Days, Worship God.

In Painful Days, Trust God.

And Every Day, Thank God.

Thank you Michael, Thank you all. God Bless.

We pray that his recovery is quick and pain free. We give thanks that his injuries were not more severe. We pray that he is up and around soon. Thank you Steve for the good that you do in helping others. Thank you all.. God Bless.

PRAYERSREQUESTED: Mom of Sweeney, Peter K. (MC1964) passes

2018-Nov-10

Jaspers Jotting will be very “thin” this week.

Dorothy Sweeney, Mother of Peter K. (MC1964), and my beloved Aunt, passed away this week.

She was my “Momma Diddy” who took care of me while my single Mom went to work after my Father abandoned her.

Recently, my fiancée has had full custody of her grandson since his release from the hospital in June 2017 after being weaned off narcotics at birth.

This little boy, Daniel, has taught me what it means to care for a baby. And especially someone else’s baby.

Her passing drove home what Momma Diddy, and my other maiden Aunt Patty, did for me and my Mom.

It’s another death in my life that makes me sad from All Souls Day to Saint Patrick’s Day, during which it seems all the significant people in my life passed on.

Makes me root for March 17th to come quickly.

The only bright light was that I met my Classmate Deacon Keith Casey (MC1968) who led the prayers at the wake and assisted at the Funeral Mass.

So with my apologies, because of this, my ongoing chores with Baby Daniel, and my new responsibilities as “bar manager” at American Legion Post #401 148 Major Road Monmouth Junction NJ 08810, I haven’t had time to “do” Jasper Jottings correctly.

Good Evening All,

Peter Sweeney has shared the sad news of the passing of his Mom. Mrs. Dorothy B. Sweeney was called home on Sunday, November 4, 2018. This Grand Lady was just two weeks shy of her 98 Birthday and lived fully throught all her years. Peter, Dianne, Anne Marie, Peter and Dianne' Grand Sons, Connor and Liam had visited with Mrs. Sweeney the morning before her passing and as Peter had said some months ago, he wanted his Mom's last days and memories to be of peace, caring and knowing that she was loved. She was called home peacefully and there is no doubt that she is at peace in God's Eternal Embrace in the Kingdom of Heaven. I will share further information as I receive
it.

Peter's email is Peter.Sweeney@Manhattan.edu. Most of you know that Peter Sweeney, PhD, is an Adjunct Professor, Civil & Environmental Engineering at Manhattan College. Thank you. God Bless.

PRAYERSREQUESTED: Veteran's Day Remembrance by Colon, Philip J. (MC1962)

2018-Nov-10

Good Morning All,

In about 36 Hours we will be remembering all our Veterans. We will think of them with Love, Respect, Thankfulness and Gratefulness. We will remember once again that " All Gave Some, Some Gave All." We will remember their sacrifice and pray for them and their Families. If you have ever visited The American Cemetery In Normandy, France, you might have asked yourself, as I did this past July, How can such a beautiful place come from such a horrible time. I know you will have felt the courage and the selflessness of those men and Four Women buried there. Like me, you may have a personal connection there and felt that connection perhaps more profoundly there and other battlegrounds. They are sacred places were we honor our Veterans. We remember them on their day, Veteran's Day, and we pray.

Please allow me to share a Prayer and Remembrance given to me by a Friend, Father Ed Ogden. Every time I read it I am moved to tearfully remember those from another War and Place. It is called:

THINGS YOU DIDN'T DO

● Remember the day I borrowed your brand new car
and dented it? I thought you'd kill me. But you didn't.

● Remember the time I dragged you to the beach, and you
Said it would rain, and it did? I thought you'd say, "I told you so."
But you didn't.

● Do you remember the time I flirted with all the guys to make you
jealous, and you were? I thought you'd leave me. But you Didn't.

● Do you remember the time I forgot to tell you the Dance was formal
and you showed up in jeans? I thought you'd drop me. But you Didn't.

● Yes, there were lots of things you didn't do.

● But you put up with me,

And you loved me,

And you protected me.

● There were lots of things I wanted to make up to you
wnen you returned from Vietnam.

BUT YOU DIDN'T.

As a good friend of mine says, " Our Heroes don't wear capes, they wear Dog Tags."

Remember our Veterans. Thank you. God Bless.

ENDNOTE: Time to "terminate" the death penalty?

2018-Nov-10

https://www.popsci.com/execution-lethal-injection-alternative-humane

HEALTH
As states scramble to find execution drugs, experts say it’s time to let lethal injection die
It isn't more humane than antiquated methods—it’s just easier to watch.
By April Reese

*** begin quote ***

In her dissent on a 2015 death penalty case, Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor suggested death by firing squad may be preferable to lethal injection. "In the future . . . some inmates may suggest the firing squad as an alternative,” she wrote, adding that “such visible yet relatively painless violence may be vastly preferable to an excruciatingly painful death hidden behind a veneer of medication.” Yet the assumption that lethal injection hews most closely to the 8th amendment’s prohibition on “cruel and unusual punishment” continues to prevail in most states.

*** end quote ***

As a pro-life pro-choice little L libertarian, it would be inconsistent for me NOT to oppose the death penalty.

I have yet to find any “law” that allows the Gooferment to kill its citizens.

And, it’s a very bad tradition we have here.  Can’t we create a “Devils Island”?  At least, if a mistake has been made, the mistake can be “corrected”.  You can’t reanimated from the death penalty.
