POSITRACTION: "... she ain’t no maid!”; the power of being a good example

Which Comedian Had A Recurring Role In The Star Trek Franchise?
JASON FITZPATRICK  @jasonfitzpatric
SEPTEMBER 18TH, 2018

*** begin quote ***

Why such a strong desire? When the original Star Trek series aired, the presence of Nichelle Nichols in the role of Lt. Nyota Uhura was profoundly impactful on the then elementary-school-age Goldberg. Nichols role was notable in the 1960s as it was one of the first times an African-American woman was portrayed as anything other than a servant on American TV. Goldberg later recalled the moment:

When I was nine-years-old Star Trek came on, I looked at it and I went screaming through the house, “Come here, mom, everybody, come quick, come quick, there’s a black lady on television and she ain’t no maid!” I knew right then and there I could be anything I wanted to be.

*** end quote ***

I didn’t know this story.  I knew the answer because I always though Woopi was very funny; until she became a left-wing zealot on the View.

The positive example I want to be in my life hopefully will inspire someone else.

It’s up to all of us to be positive role models.  That’s why I often excoriate CINO politicians as “bad examples” and disgraces to the label.

Helene Burzi
Obituary

Nyack, NY - Beloved mother, daughter, sister, teacher, and friend, passed away peacefully at Memorial Sloane Kettering hospital on Wednesday evening, surrounded by her devoted family.

Helene was born, the second of four children, to Margaret (Dolly) and Patrick (PJ) O'Reilly. She attended primary and secondary schools in the Bronx and graduated from Manhattan College with her teaching degree in 1978. She earned her Master in Education from the College of New Rochelle while teaching full time at Aquinas HS in the Bronx. As she raised her children, she lived in Yonkers, NY, and Harrington Park, NJ. In recent years, she moved to the charming village of Nyack, NY, and from her porch enjoyed watching the sun rise above the river as the tugboats headed off to work each day.

Helene was especially noted for being a great teacher, cherished by her students and colleagues. The capstone of her teaching career was attained as a Professor of English at Monroe College in the Bronx, where she taught until shortly before her death. She was especially dedicated to her students, and always spoke with the utmost of affection for her extended Monroe family.

Helene was predeceased by her mother and her cherished sister, Suzann Warden. She is survived by her sons, Thomas and Michael Burzi, whom she utterly adored, and who, in turn, provided gentle and loving care as she faced her final battle with cancer. She is also survived by her good friend and former spouse Steve Burzi, her father PJ, her brother Patrick & spouse Karen O'Reilly, her sister Bernadette O'Reilly & spouse John Powers, her brother in law Steve Warden, and ten nieces and nephews who filled her heart with joy. All who knew her were touched by her generosity and compassion. Those who knew her best were aware of her just soul, full of the wisdom to make peace, and the ferocity to keep it. She will be forever in our hearts.

A wake will be held on Thursday, September 27, from 3 - 5 and 7 - 9 PM at the Moritz Funeral Home, 348 Closter Dock Road, Closter, NJ 07624. A funeral mass will be held at 10 AM, Friday, September 28, at Our Lady of Victories RC Church, 150 Harriot Ave, Harrington Park, NJ 07640.

Contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to Memorial Sloan Kettering, whose staff earned a special debt of gratitude from the family for their extraordinarily compassionate care.

An Ohio women with eight prior drunken-driving convictions in her criminal record has been charged with causing a crash that killed her passenger in July.

Heather Lynn Tapia, 47, on Tuesday was indicted by the Franklin County grand jury on counts of aggravated vehicular homicide and operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol with repeat OVI offender specifications.

According to Franklin County Prosecutor Ron O'Brien, Tapia had a blood alcohol concern of 0.138 per cent, which is almost twice the legal limit in Ohio, when she got behind the wheel on the morning of July 14.

Sorry, but this is the Gooferment’s fault.  They can’t protect the public from an obvious repeat offender, then why should we treat them with any credibility at all.

This woman should have been in jail UNTIL there was a way to ensure she was no longer a threat to innocent people.

Perhaps an ankle bracelet that could detect when she was in the driver’s seat of a car.  Cars that can detect alcohol.  A tattoo on her forehead “DUI”?  Or just keep her locked up.

We keep reading stories of these multiple offenders, but the cops seem to focus on casual drinkers.

Argh!
