It's been seven months since Charlie Poveromo suddenly died of a heart attack at the age of 57 – but since his widow is making sure to carry on his compassionate tradition, people across the nation are paying it forward too.
Charlie was a beloved bartender, a devoted husband, and a bustling homeowner. Not only that, he was extraordinarily kind.
When a heat wave struck Milford, New Jersey eight years ago, Charlie spotted several garagemen looking pale, sweaty, and exhausted as they worked through the grueling temperatures outside of his home. He immediately grabbed several plastic cups of cooled water, ran outside, ushered the men into the shade, and offered them their fill of hydration.

I was singularly impressed how others picked up the meme and did it for Charlie far and wide.

Tinton Falls - Raymond P. Corbett, 88, of Tinton Falls, formerly Hazlet, NJ, son of Thomas Corbett and Ellen Tighe Corbett, sadly passed away on Wednesday, July 4, 2018. Born on March 15, 1930 in Glasgow, Scotland. Moved to Ireland until he emigrated to the US. They settled in the Bronx. He attended Cardinal Hayes HS and was a proud graduate of Manhattan College. It was in the Bronx that he met and married in 1955 the love of his life, Ann "Nancy" Farley, who preceded him to heaven five years ago. The fireworks in heaven were her doing to welcome him home. He proudly served four years in the Air Force, one year in Germany, one year in Wyoming and two years working for the Pentagon in Washington, DC. Ray and Nancy moved their young family to Hazlet, NJ, where he lived happily until he moved to the Seabrook community, Tinton Falls, a year ago.
Ray was a faithful and longtime parishioner of the Holy Family parish, Union Beach, helping with numerous fundraisers over the years, including singing and dancing in shows, and ultimately founding the St Vincent de Paul Society and thrift shop, a charitable entity he served for nearly 40 years, even after his move to Seabrook. In 1988, because of his great works, he was awarded the Monmouth County Federation of the Holy Name Societies Man-of-the-Year.
He was a devoted family man. No one was more important than his two sons Ray Jr. (Cathy), Mahwah; Tommy (Laura), Monmouth Beach; and his three daughters Shevaun (Steve) Selvin, Manhattan; Tracey (Tim) Riordan, Bernardsville; and Jeanne (Rich) Korchak, Fair Haven. Slightly more doted upon were his grandchildren: Michael, Scott and Keith Selvin, Matthew Keppler, Jack and Jesse Riordan, Kelley, Tommy and Courtney Corbett and Kate and Liam Korchak. He was a wonderful brother to his sister Eileen (Bob) Brittain, Hardy, VA. Besides Nancy and his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Dolores. He was a fun-loving uncle to his many nieces and nephews. And because he always treated his friends like family, his life family went beyond the bonds of blood, and spanned many generations. He was an avid Met and Giant fan, always rooting them on through good and bad seasons. His friends and family will remember him best as a great man, great father, great uncle and great friend. He set the example of what it is to be a strong, kind person, of faith and integrity.
Visitation will be held at the Shore Point Funeral Home, 3269 NJ-35, Hazlet, NJ on Monday, July 9, 2018 from 3-8 PM. A funeral mass to celebrate his life will be held on Tuesday, July 10, 2018 at 11:00 AM at Holy Family Roman Catholic Church, 727 NJ-36, Union Beach, NJ. Rye-Naples, FL - Naples, Florida - Kevin Michael Haggerty of Naples, Florida and formerly of Rye, New York passed away on June 25, 2018 at the age of 77. The son of Aileen and Arthur Haggerty. He was born in Pelham, New York and was the oldest of three children. He graduated from Pelham High School (where he excelled in basketball, football and baseball) and Manhattan College.
Kevin is a former Viet Nam veteran and was a Captain in the US Marine Corps (where he was the Coach of the United States Armed Forces basketball team), and after being discharged from the Marine Corps in 1969, he started in the Institutional Equity business with Kidder Peabody as a convertible arbitrage and block trader. Kevin worked at several firms during his institutional trading career and retired from Fidelity in 1997 as the Senior Vice-President in charge of the Fidelity Capital Markets institutional trading desk. He was also a member of the Westchester Country Club.
Kevin is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Mary Jane Morell Haggerty and their four children, K.G., Kerry, Ryan (Meg) and Sean (Jen) and ten grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Arthur Haggerty and his sister Sheila Haggerty. Also by his sisters-in-law Rita Shea and Catherine Raddatz (Don) and his brother-in-law Mark Morell (Brooke). Three brothers-in-law predeceased him in death, Anthony Morell, Gaspar Morell, Jr. (Patti) and George Morell (Robbie). His family had great respect and love for him. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, July 10, at Resurrection Church in Rye, New York at 10:00 o'clock. Matthew A. Gilmore, Jr., a 50-year resident of North Salem, New York, died peacefully at Danbury Regional Hospice on July 2. Matt was in his 82nd year of life-a life that was full of love, joy and splurging on extravagant meals.
Matt was born on May 29, 1937, in Queens, son of the late Matthew A. Gilmore Sr. and Dorothy (Durand) Gilmore. As a 1959 Manhattan College graduate, Matt earned a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering and eventually went on to work for Loral Space & Communications in Yonkers, from which he retired.
On September 9, 1961, Matt married his wife Marie C. Leno at Holy Family Church in Brooklyn. Together, they started their family in Flushing, Queens before moving to North Salem in 1968. Marie predeceased Matthew on May 27, 2015.
Matt enjoyed puttering around the house, organizing and then re-organizing his many gadgets, fixing cars, and bragging about his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was the master of unfinished projects, a lover of single malt whiskey, and was genuinely good company. Matt considered himself a Traveling Catholic and more often than not, only God knew where he would be for Sunday Mass. At every family gathering, he could be found near the dessert table, talking about the latest gadget he found on Amazon, or napping upright wherever he was sitting. Matt will forever be remembered for his wit, his compassion, and his vast knowledge of random facts.
Matt is survived by his three daughters, Margaret G. Taylor of Danbury, Connecticut, Catherine M. Hennessey and her husband Joe of Annandale, Virginia and Maria C. Hlushko of North Salem; ten grandchildren, Claire (Aaron) Chriss, Megan Walsh, Erin, Richard and Kieran Taylor, Kristen, Michael and Brian Hennessey, and Kate and Anna Hlushko, along with his five great-grandchildren, Colin, Fallon, Ryan, Adam and Sarah. He was also predeceased by his son Matthew A. Gilmore III on November 13, 1998.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated July 9 at St. Lawrence O’Toole Church in Brewster. Interment followed at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Somers.

NEW CITY – He wears three rubber bracelets on his left wrist.
“Frawley Strong,” they read.
His left hand is his strong one. The one with which he gestures, eats, holds a pen to slowly print his name.
And frequently grasps the hand of his wife, Janine.
Hand in hand, they tackle each day.
Since he was hired as Tappan Zee's athletic director in 2005, Liam Frawley, 49, had become a national figure in education circles. He lectured about lifting kids up and stopping bullying. He was finishing his doctorate. There was chatter he’d be Section 1's next executive director. He was named the National Federation of State High School Associations’ Educator of the Year for 2015.
But Liam Frawley's world changed on Jan. 25, 2016, when his wife found him collapsed in their home.
Rushed unconscious to Nyack Hospital, he was diagnosed with a massive ruptured brain aneurysm and was transferred to Westchester Medical Center.
Doctors said there wasn’t much hope.
“They thought he wouldn’t make it that day,” she said.
She told her unconscious husband, “I’m not giving up and I know you’re not giving up.”
That attitude has defined their last two and a half years together.
“It’s hard to go from such a busy life to this, but you’ve got to fight for it, right?” Janine asks Liam.

Algirdas Cesnavicius of Croton-on-Hudson, NY died unexpectedly on June 25, 2018 at N.Y. Presbyterian at Hudson Valley. He was 74. Mr. Cesnavicius worked as a mechanical engineer for Burns and Roe Enterprises, Raytheon, and Ebasco designing power plants and consulting for 48 years.
Mr. Cesnavicius was born in Vilkaviskis, Lithuania to Eleonora and Justinas Cesnavicius. He was educated in England, Notre Dame H.S. in West Haven, Ct., and Manhattan College in Riverdale, N.Y.
He also took advanced courses in engineering and was licensed in numerous states.
While working in Wyoming in 1969 he got a private pilot's license.
He lived in Croton-on-Hudson for the past 27 years and before that in Peekskill and Ossining.
He was extremely devoted to his family and friends and was always willing to help anyone with a project. He had a gentle kind spirit and never spoke a harsh word to anyone. He was an enthusiastic arborist and avid reader especially automobile magazines.
He is survived by his brother Romas of North Carolina, his sister Zita of Garrison, NY and nephew Justin of California as well as relatives in Connecticut and Lithuania.
Family members who died earlier include his father, Justinas who died June 9, 2018, his mother, Eleonora in 1992 and his nephew Alan in Nov. 2016.

Donald Arthur Gary of Weston, CT. passed away peacefully on July 5, 2018 at home surrounded by the love of his life and wife of 54 years, Phyllis Gary, and his loving family.
Don was born June 8, 1940 and raised in New York City where he attended Manhattan College graduating with honors in 1958. After college, he graduated from Duke University Law School where he met Phyllis on a blind date. They were the two tallest people their mutual friends knew – so naturally they were a perfect fit.
After law school, Don and Phyllis moved to New York City where he began his career working for Arthur Anderson Co. in the tax department. Always an entrepreneurial spirit, in 1970, Don founded Envicon, a commercial real estate syndication firm and moved with his family to Weston where he resided for 48 years. In 1980, Don left Envicon to found Real-Vest Corp., a real estate development company based in Stamford, CT. Don "retired" in 2007.
Don had a passion for volunteer civic engagement. He was the Commissioner of the Weston Police Department for 20 years, working closely with the officers and Chief of Police, Tony Land. He served as Chairman of the Weston Board of Education and spent many years on the Town of Weston Building Committee. He felt that one of his greatest accomplishments was being instrumental in the construction of the Weston Intermediate School and finding a solution to the waste-water management system. Don joined the Weston chapter of Kiwanis in 2008 and served as president of the club in 2014.
He was a passionate runner in college and qualified for the Olympics trials in the 4 x 100 relay. He brought that passion to Weston Kiwanis in establishing the Reservoir Run Half Marathon in 2012.
Don was also a cherished member of the Norfield Congregational Church. He served on the building committee for the restoration of the steeple, the parish hall and the sanctuary, was chairman of the Board of Trustees as well as the Board of Deacons, and was Church Moderator over a period of forty years.
Don received many awards, one of which was Weston's Citizen of the Year in 2000. He loved to drive his '59 red Oldsmobile convertible in the annual Memorial Day Parade with the First and Second Selectmen perched on the car.
Don had an infinite love of life, family, friends and adventure. He and Phyllis traveled the globe visiting all seven continents and 50 States. He was "Mapman" constantly plotting the course ahead.
He was always ready with a joke, pun, homemade blackberry Cosmo, glass of wine or plate of his famous wings. Happiness was a perfectly done steak or a Peking Duck on the Egg. He loved to fish, be on the water and tend to his organic garden. He was a devoted father coaching Weston Little League baseball and was immensely proud of his children and grandchildren's swimming accomplishments documenting almost every lap with his video camera. His favorite quote was regarding his beloved NY Giants …"snatching defeat from the jaws of victory".
Don is survived by his beloved wife, Phyllis Gary of Weston, his daughter Kristin Gary of Manhattan, his son Robert Gary of Weston, his daughter-in-law Elizabeth Gary, two granddaughters, Isabella and Francesca, and his sister, Barbara Gary and brother in law, Paul Blaber of Manhattan. His memorial service will be held at Norfield Congregational Church, Weston, CT. on July 22, 2018 at 4:00pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Norfield Congregational Church, 64 Norfield Road, Weston, CT 06883 or to Trident Swim Foundation, 150 West 55th Street, NY, NY, 10019.

Lindy Remigino, who had never won a major championship and was not even the best sprinter on his Manhattan College track team, but who nonetheless won the 1952 Olympic gold medal in the 100-meter dash in a monumental upset and then won a second gold medal in a relay, died on Wednesday at his home in Newington, Conn. He was 87.
His son, Mike, said the cause was pancreatic cancer.

Lindy John Remigino, 87, passed away at his Newington, Connecticut home on Wednesday, July 11, 2018 in the loving care of his family.
Born on June 3, 1931 in Corona, Queens, New York, Lindy moved to Hartford in 1937 with his parents Stefano and Rose (Strada) Remigino and brother Rudolph where he later attended Hartford Public High School. He used a full scholarship to Manhattan College to earn a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education.
In the iconic race of his life, Lindy upset the talented field to win the Olympic gold medal in the 100-meter Dash at the 1952 Olympic Games in Helsinki, Finland. He then won his second gold medal as part of the U.S.4x100m relay team.
Upon his return from Helsinki, Lindy married June Haverty in 1953. He then became a physical education teacher and track and field and cross-country coach at Hartford Public High School in Hartford, Connecticut. For a span of over 40 years, he coached teams to 31 state championships that included many athletes as individual state champions and All-Americans. In addition to coaching, Lindy served as Meet Director of numerous State Championship and invitational track and cross-country meets, and he founded and was the Meet Director of the prestigious Hartford Public High School Invitational for 40 years (a meet that was later renamed in his honor). He was also highly regarded as a track official at meets such as the U.S. Indoor Championships and the Millrose Games where he officiated for 20 years.
Lindy was inducted into the Halls of Fame of several organizations, including USA Track and Field, the New York Athletic Club, the New York Armory Track Center, Manhattan College, the National Federation of High Schools, the Connecticut High School Coaches Association and Hartford Public High School. His 1952 Olympic 100 meters triumph is included in Bud Greenspan's book, "100 Greatest Moments in Olympic History," as well as his video "The World's Fastest Humans."
He is survived by his beloved wife for 65 years June (Haverty) Remigino, his daughter Patricia Geer and son-in-law Richard Geer of Glastonbury, CT; his daughter Elizabeth Remigino-Knapp and son-in-law Ronald Knapp of West Hartford, CT; his daughter Linda Moulthrop and son-in-law Jon Moulthrop of Haymarket, VA; his daughter Kathleen Remigino and partner Gail Briere of Rotonda West, FL; and his son Michael Remigino and daughter-in-law Meredith Remigino of West Hartford, CT. He also leaves 10 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents Stefano and Rose (Strada) Remigino and brother Rudolph. Lindy's family would like to extend their thanks and gratitude to Dr. Jonathan Sporn and Nella Zydanowicz of The St. Francis Cancer Center, his aides Winifred and Nicki of Masonicare and all the nurses of Masonicare's Hospice and Palliative program for their compassionate care shown to Lindy and his family.

Thomas Martin McNally Jr., 75, of Raleigh, died on July 11, 2018. He was preceded in death by his wife of 44 years, Gail Sutton McNally, and parents, Mary and Thomas M. McNally Sr.
Tom was born and raised in the Bronx, New York and was a graduate of Manhattan College. He worked at PotashCorp for over forty years in various accounting and risk management roles. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, bourbon and watching sports. He took much pleasure, and pain, in rooting for all New York teams, especially the Giants and Yankees. He had a great sense of humor and was a very loyal friend. Above all, Tom loved his children and grandchildren.
Tom is survived by his son, Michael McNally and wife, Christina of Hickory, NC and his daughter Elizabeth Pearson and husband, Marcus of Fuquay-Varina, NC; and five grandchildren, Cameron, Isabelle, and Avery McNally and Benji and Wesley Pearson.

It is with deep regret that I report that my younger brother Wesley passed away on Sunday July 8th. Though he was the "renegade" brother who did not attend the Prep rather opting for Mount St. Michaels, he earned his Jasper wings by attending Manhattan College and becoming the third of the three Wszolek boys to graduate. Below is his obituary so that you might know a little more about him.
Wesley Michael Wszolek, age 67, a long term resident of Yonkers, passed away Sunday morning, July 8th in White Plains Hospital, White Plains, New York of complications from a long battle with cancer. He was born in February, 1951 in Yonkers,NY, to the late Walter M. and Florence (nee Jankowski) Wszolek..
He is survived by his beloved wife, Bridget (nee Bohan) Wszolek; two sons, ChristianWszolek and his wife Karen of Bronx, NY and William Wszolek of New York, NY. Healso leaves behind his brother Donald J. Wszolek and his wife Amy of Montvale,NJ and brother Roger W. Wszolek and his wife Lorraine of Yonkers, NY. Inaddition to his parents, he was predeceased by his stepmother, Carol (neeLucas) Wszolek.
Wes was raised in Yonkers, NY, educated at the St Mary’s School and Mount St. Michaels High School. He graduated in 1973 from Manhattan College with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. He later earned a Master of Business Administration from Pace University in 1989.
Wes spent 37 years working in various capacities within the Paramutual Department at Yonkers Raceway. He also worked in senior accounting roles for the City of New York and the City of Yonkers Parks Department.
Wes was an avid fisherman and maintained a small boat on the Pepacton Reservoir where he spent many days on the water enjoying the beautiful sunshine and scenery. He was a passionate gardener, making his family’s house a truly special place to call home after planting and cultivating a diverse assortment of trees and flowers.
Wes was a lifelong sports fan and called the New York Yankees and New York Jets his favorite teams. Go Jets! His love and encyclopedic knowledge of horse racing knew no bounds, as well as his enjoyment of New York Times crossword puzzles.
He will be forever missed by the love of his life Bridget, his children, his brothers, his sisters- and brothers-in-law Amy, Lorraine, Mary, Christine, Athena, Ellen, John and Peter. As well as many loving nieces, nephews and loving friends.

Love Story: Manhattan 'mixer' launches a lifelong romance
Christine and Patrick O'Hagan celebrated their 46th anniversary on a trip to Alaska with close friends celebrating their 50th anniversary.

Christine O’Hagan of Holtsville recalls her courtship with her husband, Patrick.
I met my husband, Patrick, on Oct. 14, 1966, at a Manhattan College dance, or “mixer,” as it was called. The all-male school was in Riverdale in the Bronx. Patrick lived in the Bronx. I lived in Jackson Heights, Queens. My name was Christine Kehl then. It was a long subway ride to Riverdale, but my friend Kathleen came with me. We’d heard that Manhattan was full of cute guys.
Patrick was 19, a Manhattan College sophomore, an electrical engineering major. I was 16, in my senior year at Cathedral High School in Manhattan. Patrick says he was about to leave when he spotted me. All I know is that our eyes met across a crowded dance floor. It was either love at first sight — or that we were the tallest people in the room.
After we danced, he asked for my number. When he called and asked if I were home, my 9-year-old brother said “no” and hung up.
But Patrick persisted, and our first and second dates were at the movies. For our third date, he invited me to the Manhattan College Engineers’ Ball at the midtown Commodore Hotel. It was a rainy night and my newly dyed heels, which I dyed myself, streaked his suit pants with silver dye.
We spent our rather penniless courtship either at the movies or walking the streets of New York. Occasionally, we splurged on a $1.99 steak dinner at Tad’s Steaks in Times Square. In 1967, we went to my senior prom. After graduating, I worked as an operator at the New York Telephone Co. in Manhattan.
Patrick graduated in 1969 and on June 20, 1970, we were married at St. Joan of Arc Church in Jackson Heights. We honeymooned on Cape Cod, where, somewhere in the surf, Patrick lost the Manhattan class ring I’d given him as an engagement gift.

The crazy Marx with his vision of the future created an entire narrative from paradise (pre-capitalism, i.e. it never existed, guys, not even as apes. A “religious” war in the USA is NOW a possibility. Pick any issue and the Left wants that one “their way” — and every other issue. Education of children is now propagandizing them as was done in the old Soviet Union. The USA once condemned that; now we embrace it. It’s a sad thing to say that the American Experiment was killed by the War of Northern Aggression and was buried by the Politically Correct left less that 150 years later.
Best we can do is fight a delaying action until the “We, The Sheeple” wake up. If they ever do?
