“The roo’s life was important to us so we went out on an arm and leg and got it,” Nick told TODAY. “We think he went searching for water there and it was really muddy so he got himself really stuck.
“It’s a pretty patriotic thing to do and we’re proud of what we did. If we saw something like that again, we’ll do it all over again,” he added.

Mike McEneney has shared a couple of prayer requests.
We pray for Maureen, a long time Eucharistic Minisiter at Mike and Cathie's Parish, St Barnabas. Aunt Mo, as she is known in the Parish, has been told that she will be needing surgery, in the near future, to remove a troublesome Polyp. We pray that all goes well and we pray for a speedy recovery free of any complication so that she may go about her Ministry free of any negative symptoms. We Pray.
We have also heard from Mike McEneney asking for our prayers for the repose of the soul of Jay Taylor (39 years old) who died suddenly this past Thursday, April 26, 2018. Jay is the Husband of Elizabeth, one of Lauren Johnson's '05 (Mike's Granddaughter) best Friends. Jay leaves his young wife, Elizabeth and young Daughter, Hannah. We can only imagine the loss and suffering this young Family is enduring at this time. We pray that Elizabeth and Hannah find peace and understanding in God's love and grace during this terrible time. Please raise the volume for this grieving Family. Lou Calvelli has shared the sad news of the passing of Fellow Jasper, John W. Keves '77 BBA on March 2, 2018. Fellow Jasper George F. Keves '70 BA, shared the sad news of the passing of his Baby Brother John. John, for over 30 years was the Houston, Texas, Manhattan College Alumni Chapter Representative. John and his Wife, Janet,organized and graciously welcomed so many Jaspers to so many functions, celebrations and gatherings. Always with a warm smile and a large Texas Jasper embrace. John and Janet unfailingly espoused "Always A Jasper."
We pray for the repose of the soul of Fellow Jasper, John, that of his Wife Janet (predeceased 2017), their Children Laura, Thomas and Jennifer and their Family as the Family mourn the loss of their loved one. It is with the deepest sense of sadness I announce the passing of my baby brother, John W Keves, Class of 1977.
John was the Houston Alumni Chapter representative, still listed, and he and his wife Janet proudly organized a full schedule of Alumni events over a 30+ year period, including communion breakfasts, golf outings and trips and visits from Manhattan Administrators.
John graduated with a degree in Business Administration and played on the baseball team during his time at The College.
Sadly, John passed on March 2, 2018 after a 5-year battle with esophageal cancer.His beloved wife, Janet, sadly passed 7 months earlier from cancer. He is survived by his children Laura, Thomas and Jennifer, son-in-law Bentley and rescue hound, Oscar, who he found on his doorstep 10 years ago and who never left his side.His family in New York include his sister Kathy,me, my wife Teresa and numerous nieces and nephews, who loved him dearly.
Neither John nor Janet will be forgotten.

Dear Fordham Law Alumni,
I write with the sad news that Professor Roger J. Goebel passed away on Friday, April 20. He was 82. The Fordham Law community has lost a good friend and a superb colleague whose contributions to us, our students, and our institution were immeasurable. Professor Goebel was never shy about speaking his mind and, in a gentle way, pressing his views. He always spoke from the heart, informed by his tremendous learning and intellect. He devoted particular attention to nurturing the community of international students and scholars at Fordham Law.
Born in Indianapolis, Professor Goebel earned his A.B. from Manhattan College in 1957, graduating as valedictorian of his class. He enrolled at New York University School of Law, earning his J.D. in 1960 and his LL.M. in comparative law in 1961. From 1961 to 1962, he was a Fulbright fellow at the University of Tübingen in Germany. From 1966 to 1983, he practiced international business law and French and American corporate law in the Paris and New York City offices of Coudert Brothers.
In 1984, we at Fordham Law were thrilled to welcome Professor Goebel to the faculty; he served the Law School community for 33 years as an invaluable educator, colleague, and friend. As Alpin J. Cameron Professor of Law, he inspired students and colleagues alike with his prodigious knowledge of corporations, partnership and limited liability companies, and European Union Law.
Professor Goebel represented one of the foremost American legal academics in the field of EU Law, having taught and written in the field since 1978. Indeed, he was one of the founders of this important area of study. In 1984 he created the Fordham Center on European Law, which fostered Fordham Law’s relationships with United States and European law schools and has promoted the School’s reputation in Europe as a premier school in international law.
Professor Goebel was instrumental in building and nurturing the School’s LL.M. program, and he served as a caring mentor to the many international students who matriculated at Fordham due to his influence. During their time at the Law School, Professor Goebel deftly helped them navigate a legal system that may have initially seemed strange to them but that was nonetheless one they were eager to understand thanks to his encouragement and tutelage.
Showcasing his commitment to the field of EU law, Professor Goebel published extensively on the topic and other international legal matters. His book Cases and Materials on European Union Law, which he co-authored with Eleanor Fox, George Bermann, Jeffrey Atik, and Frank Emmert, is now in its fourth edition and remains a vital law school text. He also co-edited Rights, Liability and Ethics in International Legal Practice, now in its second edition, with the late Mary Daly. His work is widely read and respected in Europe. Many European academics first learned of Fordham Law School through his work, making him one of the School’s great ambassadors.
Professor Goebel taught at various institutions across the United States, in Germany, and in France. He maintained various professional affiliations and roles, including president of the American Foreign Law Association (1997–2000); advisory board member of the American Law Institute, Restatement of Agency Third (1999–2003); editorial advisory board member of the Common Market Law Review (1991–present); and executive committee member of the American Society of Comparative Law (1997–2000).
Professor Goebel will be profoundly missed by his many friends, colleagues, and former students in the Fordham Law School community.
The Law School will host an appropriate event to share memories of Professor Goebel. Information will be forthcoming.

Herbert Francis Hafenmaier passed away on Sunday, April 22, 2018, surrounded by his immediate family.
He was the only child of Balthasar and Johanna Jung Hafenmaier born on the 12th of June, 1925, in New York City, New York. He spent his youth in Manhattan and then enlisted in the United States Navy, joining the greatest generation as a Radarman Second Class USN, aboard the destroyer escort U.S.S. Leslie L. B. Knox, throughout the south pacific. Upon his honorable naval discharge he was one of the many veterans who gravitated to the educational benefits offered by the government and was accepted at Manhattan College where he graduated with honors with a Bachelor in Electrical Engineering degree, furthering his education at Columbia University with an MSEE, Rutgers University Labor Relations Program and Harvard Business School Marketing Management Program.
He began his amazingly diverse career with International Telephone and Telegraph (ITT) as a Senior Engineer in NAVAIDS, where he designed ILS (instrument landing systems) and traveled to air force bases around the country to instruct personnel on their operation, (during which time he favored Texas locations, and became a reborn Texan, adopting a Stetson hat, Lucchese boots and bolo tie as his preferred dress). His outstanding field work recognized, he was transferred to ITT Federal Electric Corporation in Paramus New Jersey as an Engineering Administrator.
Involved in the operation and maintenance of the Distance Early Warning (DEWLINE) and White Alice defense systems, he spent extensive periods of time in the arctic. It was during this time he met the Administrative Assistant to the Director of Engineering, Catherine (Kay) Daleo, and discovered opposites really do attract, and after a brief engagement they were married. He was then moved to the state of Washington as Engineering Manager for the TITAN Facility, overseeing the silo missile installations.
Following his return to the east coast, and fluent in the German language, he became Project Manager for ITT U.S. NATO Communications Project, from Germany to Italy until completion. In 1966 he was then named Project Director of Logistics and Technical Information Support Services and an Apollo Member at The Manned Spacecraft Center, Houston, where he established his first Texas home in the small village of Friendswood. In 1973 he left Friendswood to assume the Project Manager of Instrumentation Support Services position at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida. While in Florida, he was appointed Chairman of The United Way in Brevard County and also sponsored and was active with the Junior Achievement student group.
During this time, he was visited by an Executive of the American Sterilizer Corporation, a leader in the hospital service industry, to consider leaving government service to assume the management of their service company. Always ready for new challenges, and after visiting their Erie Pennsylvania offices, he accepted their offer and began an illustrious career in the medical health field which included federal health care legislation and pioneering the use of personal computers. He also initiated an Associate Degree program in biotechnology at Edinboro State University. His experience with global affiliations played a large part in company expansion. After AMSCO was bought by The Steris Corporation he remained until his retirement in 1988 as Vice President of Service. He left Pennsylvania in 1992 and once again returned to Friendswood to establish what he referred to as his final frontier. With education always at the forefront, The Herbert F and Catherine C Hafenmaier School was established at Mercyhurst University, Erie Pennsylvania in 1995. His affiliations include Institute of Electronic and Electrical Engineering, National Association of Service Managers, American Institute of Electrical Engineers, St Vincent Hospital Board of Corporators and American Association for Medical Instrumentation.
Herbert is survived by his wife of 59 years, Catherine (Kay), their three daughters Lisa Geronimo, Lynda (Hebert) Hafenmaier, Leslie Armstrong and husband David, son, Erich Hafenmaier and wife Dr Ann Marie Prazak. Grandsons Justin Geronimo, Michael Geronimo and wife Brooke, Matthew Geronimo and wife, Brittany, and granddaughter Julia (Geronimo) Bordelon and husband Mark. Granddaughters Christi Hebert and Courtney (Hebert) Wooldridge and husband Trent, and grandson, Dylan Hebert. Grandson David, and granddaughter Johanna Armstrong. Great grandchildren Emma Geronimo, Lucy Wooldridge, Oliver and Elliott Bordelon.
Friends are cordially invited to attend a visitation with the family on Wednesday, May 2, 2018 at 6:00 P.M. at Jeter Memorial Funeral Home, 311 N. Friendswood Dr., Friendswood, TX 77546, (281) 992-7200, with a Vigil Service at 7:00 P.M.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, May 3, 2018 at 10:00 A.M. at Mary Queen Catholic Church, 606 Cedarwood Dr., Friendswood, TX 77546, with Rev. James H. Kuczynski, M.S. officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Olivet Catholic Cemetery, 7801 Gulf Freeway, Dickinson, TX 77539. Following the burial, attendees are invited to a luncheon at the Mary Queen Catholic Church banquet room.
