Most people may not concern themselves with a stranger’s stolen wallet – especially if the wallet in question was thrown into the ocean. But Jimmy Gilleece was determined to help his distressed customer; and his mission to find the wallet ended up changing his life.
Gilleece, who owns a bar in Wrightsville, North Carolina, was approached last month by a female customer who was frantic over her lost wallet. Not only did the wallet contain her ID and cards, but it also contained her wedding ring.
Gilleece started his search for the lost treasure by watching hours and hours of security footage in the bar. After reviewing several different cameras around the bar, he finally saw the wallet sitting on a bench outside. The camera also showed a hooded stranger pocketing the wallet.

He went far out of his way to help his fellow man and wound up “saving” one and possibly more people.

Schiess, Richard J.
After 90 years, Richard J. Schiess whistled his last song and left this earthly life in the early morning of Tuesday, April 17, 2018. Born in September 1927, he was a man both of his time and ahead of his time.
At the tender age of 17, he joined the Navy and served out the final months of World War II bringing soldiers home from battle. He returned home to Harrison, New York, the town where he was raised as the middle child of Charles and Hermine Schiess.
He graduated from Manhattan College in 1950 and married Caryl Corbetta in 1953. Together they went on to raise a large family.
Richard was one of the original Mad Men, that breed of New York Advertising executives who worked hard, played hard, and retired to the suburbs at night. In his role as father, he was known for changing diapers, giving baths, pushing strollers, and putting his children to bed, never forgetting to add a story and a song.
Richard's fierce and independent streak, coupled with a dream of being his own boss, propelled him to move his family to Madison, Connecticut in l972 where he became the owner of a local retail business. Richard found his niche in small town life and greeted everyone with a whistle, smile, and a hello. Everyone would say that the words "devoted," "hardworking," and "reliable" characterized him as both a business man, a family man and friend.
In his later years, Richard enjoyed the pleasures of the front porch at Lake Sunapee, walks at Hammonasset beach, tending his garden and flowers at Act ll, telling jokes, buying gifts, and the antics of his dog Sassy. Richard volunteered his time and talents to both the Killingworth library and drove for the Madison community services. In addition to his family, his professional alumni group held a special place in his heart.
He was predeceased by his brothers Charles and Bobby. Richard will be dearly missed by his loving wife and his eight children who never missed celebrating a birthday, holiday, or a milestone with him. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Caryl and his children, Kate and David Summerlin, Mary-Caryl and Don Goff, Jean and Pete Menzies, Eileen Schiess, Amy (Leighton) Schiess, Christopher (Laura)Schiess, David Schiess and John and Michelle Schiess in addition to 11 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held in June. Donations in Richard's name can be made to Connecticut Hospice or the Killingworth Library.

2018-Apr-23Regarding “Alzheimer’s maybe treatable?”—this is indeed great news. However, this research could not have been done without human stem cells from embryos which is vehemently opposed by the Catholic Church and many other religiously conservative groups in the US.

Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery.

Sparkill - Sister Catherine Edward Carragher, OP, of the Dominican Sisters, Sparkill, New York, died on April 23, 2018 in Dominican Convent's Siena Hall, Sparkill, NY. She was 99 years old.
Born in New York, NY on March 16, 1919 Kathleen was the daughter of Edward and Catherine Murphy Carragher. She entered the Dominican Congregation of Our Lady of the Rosary in Sparkill on July 16, 1939 and received the name Sister Catherine Edward. She professed her first vows in 1941 and her final vows in 1946.
Sister Catherine Edward received her BS in Education, Manhattan College, Bronx, NY 1950 and her MS in Education, City University of New York, 1954.
Sister Catherine Edward served in the Diocese of Brooklyn, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help School, Brooklyn (1941-1965). From 1965-1970, Sister served in the Archdiocese of New York at St. Anthony School, Nanuet (1965-1966), then St. Ann's School, Bronx (1966-1970). Returning to the Brooklyn Diocese, Sister taught at St. Teresa's School, Woodside (1970-1972). She returned to the Archdiocese of New York, and from 1972-2003, she was at St. Brendan's School, Bronx as teacher from 1972-1992, then as Librarian from 1992-2003 before coming to Sparkill.
Sister Catherine Edward is predeceased by her parents Edward and Catherine Murphy Carragher and her siblings Edward, Marie, Eileen, Theresa and Margaret She is survived by her sister, Elizabeth McNamara and nieces and nephews as well as grand nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of the Rosary Chapel, Sparkill, NY, on Friday, April 27, 2018 10:30 a.m. Visitation is on Thursday, April 26, 2018 from 3:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Dominican Convent, 175 Rte. 340, Sparkill, NY. South Plainfield – John Andrew Hubinsky, Jr., 67, passed away on Saturday January 31, 2015 at Somerset Medical Center in Somerville. Born in Manhattan, NY, he had lived in North Plainfield for over 35 years before moving to South Plainfield 8 years ago.
John was a graduate of Manhattan College. He worked as an electrical engineer with Lockheed in Watchung for many years. Above all, John enjoyed spending time with his family. He loved watching sports as well as telling jokes and doing pranks. He has been a member of Evangel Church in Scotch Plains since 2001.
John was predeceased by his son, Michael Thomas Hubinsky, who died in 1982. He is survived by his loving wife, Mary Ann Cunningham Hubinsky; his children, Pamela Jeanne, Valerie Ann, John Andrew Hubinsky, III and his wife, Melissa, and Deborah Lynn.

Resided in Amissville, Virginia
John Miele, 94, passed away Wednesday morning April 25, 2018, in Warrenton, Virginia. He was born March 2, 1924, in Brooklyn, NY.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Spencer, son, Michael, daughters Alice and Sandy Rae, and grandsons, John and Michael.
John, a former resident of Hopewell Junction, New York, was a proud Navy veteran who served honorably in World War II as a radioman on PT Boat 462 in RON 31, and in the Korean War. He spent many years as a psychology professor at Manhattan College in Riverdale, NY, part of that time as Chairman of the Psychology Department.
John was active in following national and foreign affairs from an issue and values standpoint and enjoyed cooking and reading about American history,
Friends may call on Monday, April 30 from 9-10 AM at Moser Funeral Home where services will be held at 10 AM. interment with honors provided by the VFW Post 2524 to follow at Culpeper National Cemetery.

On February 14, 2018, Nicholas Cruz shot and killed 17 students from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla. Cruz, 19, had been suspended from the school for disciplinary reasons. Despite a long history of bad behavior, as well as attention from law enforcement, Cruz was not treated as a legitimate threat. In an attempt to reduce the school-to-prison pipeline, the district failed to report activities and generally kept him under the radar of local law enforcement agencies.

Clearly, there are some proximate causes and then there is the underlying root of the problem.
IMHO
The root cause is the current system of Gooferment Skrules. Sometimes call the “training ground for prisons”, it appears that in an attempt to eliminate the “school to prison pipeline”, the Gooferment created yet another “Unintended Consequence”. Funny how that always seems to happen with everything Gooferment does.
In earlier rants, I recapped the various “gun control” measures that “everyone” — anti-gunners and gun advocates — agree on.
(1) fixing the broken background check system;
(2) ending the "target rich environments" aka "gun free zones";
(3) "gun violence restraining orders" that require court hearing; and
(4) strict enforcement of "felon in possession" laws.
To these, I’ll add that the inet is a buzz with “solutions” to the physical security of schools. Some are “expensive” — bulletproof in classroom refuges. Some are trivially cheap — a clip on steel wire to keep the door closed.
Why can’t those be implemented quickly and without a lot of fanfare?
Because the politicians and bureaucrats, at the heart of the issue, don’t want to solve it. They just want to campaign on it.
