Drones in Agriculture: How UAVs make farming more efficient

*** begin quote ***

Farmers are increasingly turning to drones as their newest, most efficient tool in agriculture. Let’s take a look at the facts and figures.

Dronefly just released a new infographic consolidating the most interesting contemporary uses of unmanned aerial vehicles in the field of agriculture.

*** and ***

Farmland has been a perennial element of the American identity and its history. It’s no surprise that the newest farm tool is the whirring, bird’s-eye view-providing drone. What is surprising, though, is how rapidly this tool is reshaping an industry as age-old as agriculture. Stay tuned, as we report on how these developments in drone-related farming evolve.

*** end quote ***

One way to have “world peace” is feed the world. The USA could do it. Just get the dumb Gooferments out of the way and let the American farmer do their thing. The Gooferment paying farmers not farm is just stupid!

Sophomore Julia Danielowski Publishes Book on Depression
Posted on February 18, 2018 by The Quadrangle in Features
by RIKKILYNN SHIELDS, Editor

*** begin quote ***

Manhattan College sophomore and philosophy major Julia Danielowski has a past that she isn’t letting define her. During a battle with depression, Danielowski decided it was time to do something with what she knows and what she has experienced, in a way that is beneficial to others who are either experiencing something similar, the same, or people who are unfamiliar to depression overall.

Danielowski’s book, “The Great Part About Depression,” documents the journey of her personal journey dealing with mental illness. Growing up, Danielowski always felt as if she was different from others. However, she decided to make her mission to conquer depression itself. The goal of her book– to get across the idea that mental illness doesn’t have to be a death sentence.

Manhattan College: Catholic school overrun by Islamic proselytizing, says Muslim student
FEBRUARY 18, 2018

*** begin quote ***

I am a Muslim Albanian college student and I attend Manhattan College in Riverdale NY. I am shocked to say that I have only recently stumbled upon your web-page and YouTube videos. I have criticized Jihad and Radical Islam since as long as I can remember and continue to do so despite being ridiculed. My family is from Montenegro and was not religious prior to coming to the United States in 80’s, and continues to be the same. Nobody prays or even goes to the Mosque. Manhattan College is a Lasallian Catholic institution who’s tuition can hit up to 60K a year. Every hallway, every classroom, every announcement, every email; contains an extreme amount of Islamic advertising whether it be a club, or a prayer meeting or even an event.(The walls of every hallway are covered with flyers) I am outraged that my professors are all brainwashed by a left wing ideology which I have said long before I found out about you, is in an alliance with Islam. The only thing that tells you you’re at a catholic school is our chapel. Being educated by these leftists makes school practically worthless, and it is become extremely hard for me to choose a path in academia where I would feel that I am not wasting time, and one that would benefit me.

As a valuable Manhattan College stakeholder, we are interested to hear your thoughts on what this mascot should be and represent. The following survey will be live until March 5th, with the input received from stakeholders used to inform initial concept development and direction for the mascot. Pete McDermott and several alums have voiced their objections to this proposed change to President O'Donnell. Please use your voice and Jottings to speak out!

To the Editors:

In his review of Rosemary Ashton’s One Hot Summer [NYR, December 21, 2017], Tim Flannery errs in crediting Benjamin Disraeli with enactment of Jewish emancipation in 1858, a bit of myth-making that most of Disraeli’s many biographers indulge in and that he himself practiced wholesale. Disraeli entered Parliament in 1837, and one of his first votes was cast against Jewish emancipation. He really supported emancipation only once, in a famous speech in the 1847 debate that cost him politically; on the many occasions when a bill came before Parliament between 1837 and 1858, he did not speak at all or spoke against it, and sometimes voted for, sometimes against it. The public Disraeli differed from the private one, as he had to because his political standing, still perilous in 1858, would have been jeopardized by identifying himself with Jewish causes. In 1858 he did not participate in the debate, but played his part behind the scenes in the protracted maneuvers that went on for several months.

PRAYERSREQUESTED: Colon, Philip J. (MC1962) prays for Ashley

2018-Feb-20

Good Evenng All,.

Mike McEneney asks for our prayers for Ashley a 32 year old Mother of 3 little Children, 3 1/2 year old Twins and a 2 year old Daughter.

After a long illness, Ashley was called home this past Sunday. It is a very sad time for this young Family and a time we may ask, why Lord. We pray that He helps this Family find peace in the certain knowledge that Ashley is at peace in God's Eternal Embrace in the Kingdom of Heaven. We pray that the hurt and so deep loss the Family feels is somewhat lessened as the Lord's love Embraces those Ashley left behind and that Ashley's beloved and loving Family and Friends remember and cherish the time she shared her life with them.

Ashley was in our prayers some time ago as Lauren '05, Mike's Granddaughter, had asked for our prayers. Lauren was Ashley's main care giver and was at Ashley's side when Ashley was called home to rest. Please keep the Family, Lauren and those precious Children in your prayers.

Thank you. God Bless.

PRAYERSREQUESTED: Colon, Philip J. (MC1962) prays for Edmund

2018-Feb-22

Good Evening All,

We need to raise the volume for this good man for whom Pete Sweeney asks for our prayers. In August of 2014, we had Edmund Donovan, now just 49 years old, in our prayers for a heart condition that had to be addressed at that time. Peter noted that at the time, the heart problem was just one of the health issues that Ed and his Family were dealing with. Ed has been battling Brain Lesions for over ten years. The Doctors have been able to remove some of the lesions but not all which has left Ed with constant pain and vision issues besides his suffering from High Blood Pressure.

Today, Peter received an email from, as Peter says, his understandingly shaken Classmate, 1964, Andrew Joyce. Andrew is Ed's Father-in-Law, Andrew is married to Peters' First Cousin, Cathy and their Daughter, Valerie is Peter's God Child and Ed's Wife.

Sadly, Ed needs our prayers today more than ever. Below is Andrew's email to Peter this morning.

" Edmund has been in Robert Wood Johnson New Brunswick for a week now. He was placed in ICU last night. He has fluid, "bleeding?" on his spinal chord. Physicians  believe it is somehow related to brain surgeries of many years ago when they did remove several bleeders but left others due to extreme risk involved."

" He has some mobility issues on the left side.. To complicate matters, Edmund now has pneumonia. Oh boy!! He will need extensive rehab. They have tabled a "gamma knife" procedure due to risk it would leave him a quadriplegic. I'll keep you updated as best I can. This is way over my head. "

" Please pray for everyone involved here. What can I say? Devastating news. He is only 49!!! "

Please  raise the volume for Ed, his Wife, Valerie, Andrew, Cathy, Peter and their  Families during this very difficult time. We pray that the hand of God guides the Doctors care and decisions. We pray that Ed's pain may be lessened. We pray that Ed, Valerie and their Family feel God's love, healing and strength  throughout  this so difficult time. Thank you Peter. Thank you all. God Bless.

Good Evening All,.

From Mike McEneney, we have received the very sad news of the sudden death of 19 year old Brian Feeney, Grandson of The late Grace Feeney, a dear friend to many of us. It is a terrible loss when a loved one is called home. It is a more profound loss when a young person is called home out of the natural order of things. Most of us can only imagine the deep pain Brian's  Family are experiencing and living with during this time of sorrow. We pray for the repose of Brian's Soul, for his Family and Friends. We pray that they find some peace in knowing that Brian is at peace in God's Eternal Embrace. We know that Grace will welcome him and embrace him with the love that she had for him in life. Many of us knew and loved Grace, many of us felt, as Mike has said, that Grace was the voice and Soul of the Alumni Office for many years. As Grace watched over us, she will be watching over Brian. Thank you. God Bless.

Lou C.- does Manhattan College Admissions Dep't have a relationship with this school?  I know this video is a narrow sampling, but it may well be a good 'feeder' school for us.

Winston Henry
December 28, 1945 - February 13, 2018

Mr. Winston “Wenty” Henry

Winston “Wenty” Henry was born in St. Ann, Jamaica, the only child of his mother, Hilreita Comrie (nee Lammie – deceased) and the first born of his father, Alonzo Henry. He attended Calabar High School and St. Andrew Technical High School in Jamaica.

In 1967, the pioneer in him was manifested when he set his mind on achieving higher education and applied to colleges in the United States and was accepted. He migrated to the United States as an international student and studied at Manhattan College, New York, where he knew no one. After graduation, Winston worked in several industries but found his professional interest in the financial industry.

In 1987, he married his long time friend and love of his life, Avril, deceased only eight months ago. Winston and his wife were avid travelers. Both have traveled to at least five of the seven continents. They were well known for bringing people together by planning and directing fun cruises to exotic countries, bus rides and weekend getaways.

Winston was a fashionable man, full of life, and loved to make others laugh with his wit and infectious sense of humor even to the end. He was ill for a very short period. February 13, the day he departed this life, he had those in his hospital room laughing through our tears with his last humorous words spoken in his native dialect, the Jamaican Patois. In response to those fussing over him and trying to make him comfortable, he quipped, “Mi good, mi good, uno leave mi alone, cho.”

Winston was a profound family man. He loved his wife, his children and stepchildren. He was also a wonderful cook. He was the only one who could make his daughter Margaret, who greatly dislikes turkey meat, eat the dish when he cooked it. He was a favorite among his cousins. Additionally, Winston was a man for the people and was politically inclined. He could often be found on the campaign trail for the Democratic Party. He was elated in 2008 when the first black man was elected as president of the United States of America and was proud that he had done his part in helping to make the dream of a black president a reality.

Winston leaves behind to carry on his legacy, his daughter Margaret Henry and son Philburn Henry; stepchildren, Paul Dennis (Anne Langhorne), Paula Dennis (Robert Chang) and Pauline Dennis (Adrian Coley); and his step grandchildren, Patrick Dennis, Chauntay Dennis, Emanii Coley, Brandon Chang, Adrian Coley, Jr., Aliyah Coley, Kyle Dennis and Brianna Dennis. He is also survived by his father, Alonzo Henry; 6 sisters and 2 brothers; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. A writer once said, “A great man is one who leaves others at a loss after he is gone.” You may be gone from our sight but you live on in our hearts.

ENDNOTE: Is technology substituting for God?

2018-Feb-24

http://www.esquire.com/news-politics/amp15895746/bust-big-tech-silicon-valley/

SILICON VALLEY’S TAX-AVOIDING, JOB-KILLING, SOUL-SUCKING MACHINE

Four companies dominate our daily lives unlike any other in human history: Amazon, Apple, Facebook, and Google.
We love our nifty phones and just-a-click-away services, but these behemoths enjoy unfettered economic domination and hoard riches on a scale not seen since the monopolies of the gilded age.
The only logical conclusion? We must bust up big tech.
SCOTT GALLOWAY

*** begin quote ***

As Western nations become wealthier, organized religion plays a smaller role in our lives. But the void between questions and answers remains, creating an opportunity. As more and more people become alienated from traditional religion, we look to Google as our immediate, all-knowing oracle of answers from trivial to profound. Google is our modern-day god. Google appeals to the brain, offering knowledge to everyone, regardless of background or education level. If you have a smartphone or an Internet connection, your prayers will always be answered: “Will my kid be all right?” “Symptoms and treatment of croup. . .” “Who might attack us?” “Nations with active nuclear-weapons programs . . .”

Think back on every fear, every hope, every desire you’ve confessed to Google’s search box and then ask yourself: Is there any entity you’ve trusted more with your secrets? Does anybody know you better than Google?

*** end quote ***

Is technology substituting for God?

Given that the televangelists steal money — have your seen the magic prosperity water? —, the politicians are using it to manipulate, and the “bureaucrats” (i.e., priests) are pedophiles, I’m not sure that it’s a bad thing.

Human societies seem to have class of drones that are parasites and don’t produce anything of value. Perhaps if “we” can clear the decks of them, we’d all be better off

Seems like our paradigms and memes cycle thru phases of “God is dead” and “religious revivals”. Not so sure that this is so, but looking back in my experience it seems so.

One can only hope that the “good drones” are not wiped out with the “bad ones”.

Argh!
