POSITRACTION: New York paramedic has a hat trick of saves

2018-Jan-07

Sub-zero hero! Dramatic moment a New York paramedic jumped into the frigid Hudson River to save a drowning man - and he did the same to save a woman in July
  • Niall O'Shaughnessy was with his partner when he saw police in Tribeca today
  • They were trying to rescue a man who had jumped into the Hudson River after escaping from a nearby hospital
  • O'Shaughnessy jumped into river - despite freezing temperatures - to rescue him
  • In July 2015, the 11-year veteran of the force saved a woman who jumped in river
  • He also saved a woman who fell on subway tracks in July 2014

A New York City medic jumped into the Hudson River in freezing temperatures in order to save a mentally unstable man's life.

Paramedic Niall O'Shaughnessy, of the Fire Department of New York, stumbled upon a crime scene off a pier in Tribeca, Manhattan Saturday afternoon with his partner Mingze Wu, the New York Daily News reports.

O'Shaughnessy, 40, who is originally from Ireland, saw police officers using a life ring in an effort to rescue a man who had escaped from a nearby hospital.

The Irishman, despite the 24-degree, snowy weather, jumped into the frigid river and rescued him

*** end quote ***

John 15:13 Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one's life for ...

I’m not sure if I could be this brave and courageous.

Not sure what the water temperature was — based on what Google says, it was 46° which translates to 30 minutes before going unconscious — but neither did he when he went in.

Completing his hat trick, I hope he wins the lotto.

We need more men with huevos muchos grande like him in our world.

God bless him and protect him in his future rescues since he seems to be around when bad things happen.

JNEWS: Curcio, Matthew [MC????] novel called ‘1 Train’

Rails to reading on 1 train in novel
Posted January 12, 2018

Matthew Curcio self-published a novel called ‘1 Train’ about his experiences taking the 1 train while attending Manhattan College.
By SEAN BROWNE

For many people, trips on the 1 train is merely a ride from one point to the next. But for Matthew Curcio, it’s inspiration.

Curcio chronicled those thoughts in a book he self-published last year called “1 Train,” a novel about Cameron Grayson, a college student who finds himself collecting his late grandfather’s belongings that are now his, taking him on an adventure from Manhattan to the Bronx.

While on the train, Grayson learns more about himself through interactions he has with fellow commuters.

Although the work is fiction, Curico based those experiences from his daily commute while a Manhattan College student.

“I found myself taking the 1 train everywhere, whether it was going out on the weekends with friends, or going to visit someone in the city,” Curcio said. “I kind of used the subway as a platform to really learn about who I was by looking at other people and observing them. That is what inspired me, looking at other people and observing the hustle and flow.”

Many of those real-life interactions made it into the novel, such as Grayson dealing with beggars, or meeting a professor from Columbia University. However, Curcio was most fond of running into elder people on the subway because of the stories they told.

Colorado Chick-Fil-A Opens on a Sunday to Feed First Responders After Shooting
by KATHERINE RODRIGUEZ — 1 Jan 2018

*** begin quote ***

A Colorado Chick-Fil-A made a rare move of opening on Sunday to feed a group of first responders after a deadly shooting took place in Highlands Ranch Sunday morning.

*** and ***

Local restaurants, however, have opened in emergencies to serve the community in times of distress.

An Atlanta Chick-Fil-A opened on Sunday after thousands of passengers at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport found themselves stranded because of a power outage at the airport in December.

And, as I understand it, they don’t charge for the food.

It’s very impressive to me.
