POSITRACTION: Jonathan Myrick Daniels — martyr of the Episcopal Church2017-May-21https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jonathan_Daniels # - # - # - # - # I was out for my daily steps and came across this. I was struck by “… … … is one of only two Americans listed in the Memorial Book of Heroes and Martyrs at the Canterbury Cathedral in England.” What might have been. Reading the Wikipedia article, the killer was acquitted. “Coleman continued working as an engineer for the state highway department. He died at the age of 86 on June 13, 1997, without having faced further prosecution.” What a national disgrace! # - # - # - # - # |
MOBIT: Hanna, Annabel Saiz [MCspouse RIP] on 2017-05May-172017-May-21http://www.legacy.com/obituaries/providence/obituary.aspx?n=annabel-saiz-hanna&pid=185500849&fhid=28489 Annabel Saiz Hanna 1947 - 2017 Obituary HANNA, ANNABEL SAIZ of Barrington, passed away with her family by her side on May 17, 2017, at the age of 69. Annabel was beloved by all for her unforgettable warmth, boundless selflessness, and loving spirit. She cast a radiant light of pure love, she opened her heart to all, and she could make a stranger feel like family in a single greeting. Annabel's legacy is her love and devotion to family, her depthless generosity, and her indomitable optimism and positivity. Annabel was born November 24, 1947 in New York City, New York, to parents Alfonso and Clissi Saiz and brother Alfonso Saiz Jr. Her early childhood was blissfully spent between Manhattan and Cuba, from where her parents had emigrated. She attended Elizabeth Seton College in Yonkers, New York, where a blind date with a Manhattan College student would forever change her life. From the moment Annabel and Mark met, it was love at first sight. He was a dark haired Irish boy from rural upstate New York, she was a vibrant blonde city girl, and they couldn't have been more perfect for each other. Their love story was the likes of which were usually only seen in movies. Annabel & Mark's devotion to each other for over 50 years is an inspiration to all. The beautiful family they would create is an everlasting reflection of their unique and unwavering love. They married on June 1, 1968 in Riverdale, New York, and honeymooned road tripping across Europe. In 1970, they welcomed their first child Erik. Their second child, Todd, came in 1974, followed by daughter Erin in 1980, and son Ryan in 1983. In 1985, the family moved from Long Island, New York, to their waterfront dream house in Barrington, Rhode Island, which to this day remains the heart of holidays and family gatherings. Throughout her life, Annabel was active in the community, supported countless charities, and ran a successful luxury linens business. But little would make her happier than seeing her beloved children find their soul mates and begin their own love stories. The addition of Erik's wife Roxanne, Todd's wife Karla, Erin's husband Khushal, and Ryan's wife Jessica brought her immeasurable joy, rivaled only by the welcoming of her cherished grandchildren Owen, Gabby, Gavin, Nico, Karoline, and Inez. Annabel loved life deeply and fully, she wore her beautiful smile everywhere she went, and her unending positivity was legendary. She often and famously proclaimed everything she encountered as "the best ever." And while everything wasn't truly worthy of that designation, undoubtedly Annabel herself was. She was the best ever – the best wife, mother, daughter, sister, friend, and grammy ever. Calling hours will be Tuesday, May 23rd, 4-8pm, at Perry- McStay Funeral Home, 2555 Pawtucket Avenue, East Providence, Rhode Island. How many more young men must we lose before we stop the idiocy? What’s with fraternities? Why does initiation require blood curdling tests of terror? My close call was the fright of my life. I’ve never forgotten what a close shave it was. Things haven’t changed since. Manhattan College had three fraternities. I was determined to join the best, Phi Rho Pi, with all the campus jocks. Subjected to most unusual treatment to be one of “the boys,” in most cases, I enjoyed my assignments. I didn’t mind proposing to the ugliest girl on nearby Mt. St. Vincent campus, nor attending class in the hip boots of 6’ 10” basketball star Junius Kellogg despite my size. Even the assignment of securing and providing a pound of belly button lint unfazed me. Who was to say what I really presented them with? But hell night, I’ll never forget. We were re-dressed in each other’s clothing so we couldn’t hide money on our person when finally dropped off in the middle of nowhere. Our foreheads were painted with fraternity letters. Our eyes were blindfolded with bread slices secured by Kotex. I rode in the trunk of the car and whenever stopped, climbed out and ran into a roadhouse to beg for beer. When finally successful, it was another’s turn in the trunk. Suddenly, a passing police car became suspicious. We were immediately pulled over. The pledge jumped out of the trunk shouting, face painted in orange and black, clothes shabbily misfit. As we disembarked the car, a terrified policeman’s hand shook visibly as he waved his gun at all. What restrained him, I’ll never know. JEMAIL: Colon, Philip J. (MC1962) on Memorial Day's meaning2017-May-27Good Afternoon Fellow Americans, Memorial Day, like Veteran's Day, always brings me to tears, a feeling of great pride and loss pervades, remembering can be painful but we will never forget our Veterans: " All gave some, some gave all." I am taking the liberty of sharing with you the following which was sent to me by a good and respected friend, Fellow Jasper, Ed Riely. Some of us have seen some of these places, some have seen some of these Photographs, many of us have never seen them all brought together in remembrance and tribute. They are incredible and magnificent places, justifiably so, where so many of our heroes rest. They are beautiful in their serenity, overwhelming in the emotions that arise upon seeing them and a rightous tribute to our Fallen. No, we will never forget. Thank you for your service. God Bless. ENDNOTE: All life is “sacred” and precious. Even some dumb cow.2017-May-27http://www.animalsaustralia.org/features/cows-living-and-loving-life.php Twenty-five cows destined for slaughter were given a rare second chance. Watch as they greet the beginning of Spring — and the start of their new lives — in a display of some of the purest joy you will ever see. # - # - # - # - # Now, I’m not yet a vegan. Nor a Buddhist. But I am pro-life and pro-choice. I watched this video. It reinforced my prejudice that all life is “sacred” and precious. Even some dumb cow. It teaches us humanity and, obviously based on the fundraising for a foundation, it’s strikes a common chord. Maybe it’s when we look at individuals or a specific instance, our “soul” is awakened. I’m not sure that cows feel “joy”. I know that humans anthropomorphize and see pattern in clouds; our minds make us see what we want to see. But there is a beauty in life and nature far beyond my ability to comprehend or create. So I’ll just be in awe of what I don’t understand. Somewhat like those “cargo cults” in the South Pacific waiting for the planes bringing stuff to come back. Uncomprehending of the exernal realities. Just like me! Except I’m a fat old white guy injineer and I “know it all”. (Just ask my fiancée or my relatives!) I just watch the video of these cows and wondered who’s the “dumb one” now. # - # - # - # - # |
