Neighbors Harvest Grieving Farmer’s 100 Acres in One Day
by McKinley Corbley - Nov 22, 20160

*** begin quote ***

The Wollyung family was stricken by disaster when their 4-year-old granddaughter Ayla passed away after an accident with the farming machinery.

A longtime family friend Tara Henry heard about the tragedy and called the household, asking if they needed any assistance following the incident. Carmen Wollyung said that her husband Steve still had 112 acres of wheat that needed harvesting – but she didn’t know how they would finish it all while dealing with such grief.

Tara wasted no time in calling farmers from all over Indiana to aid the distressed family. Workers and neighbors showed up with every bit of machinery necessary to complete the job. Over 60 farmers took to the fields at 10AM and finished by 5PM, turning what would ordinarily have been a week-long endeavor into seven hours of work.

The neighbors that didn’t have any equipment to lend simply showed up with sandwiches and cookies for the team.

Steve told FOX59 he was totally shocked. “I couldn’t believe it when I saw everyone show up to help. All of the support and the number of people wanting to help is just overwhelming,” Steve said. “It was emotional to see everyone. Whatever we needed, they brought.”

*** end quote ***

How many times does one get a chance to make a difference?

I often wonder if I was so “tone deaf”, that I was “blind” to the opportunity? For whatever reason, I can’t think of time I missed “the boat”. Guess when I cross the rainbow bridge, I’ll get an inventory.

You?

  “And who is my neighbor?”

This is a public service announcement - especially to all Riverdalians. Remember how growing up when Stella D'Oro was making breakfast treats the entire neighborhood smelled like almond? Then they were sold to Nabisco and the smell was gone and the cookie was never really the same. Now they've been sold again and the result is CRAP. I bought Swiss Fudge Cookies to bring somewhere today and when they were opened they were dry, chalky and basically horrible. IS NOTHING SACRED???? :(

You may know of me as a thorn in the side of the Antismokers, one who knows their tricks and techniques and lies and strategies and exposes them repeatedly and bloodily.  I like to say that the reason I know them so well, is that I used to BE one of them... sorta.

I was actually an ANTI-DRIVER!  I was a 100% dyed-in-the-wool bicycle/transit activist doing EXACTLY what you describe in that NYC Traffic article.

Back in 1976 I laid out and had published an entire strategy that was pretty much EXACTLY what you described in your article here forty years later.  See my two articles, Free Peoples Transit, and AATTAACK! (more of a short satirical piece written about 1990 -- AATTAACK! stands for Americans Against The Tobacco, Alcohol, And Car Killers!")

See them both at https://assortedtopics.quora.com/ beneath my Election 2016 analysis.

I think you'll find them quite interesting in light of your article, and you're more than welcome to quote freely from them with attribution in your future writings!

JEMAIL: McFadden, Michael J. (MC1973) shared a joke

2016-Dec-07

McFadden, Michael J. (MC1973)

I think you'll appreciate this joke!

Obama, Hillary and Trump are standing at the throne of heaven. God looks at them and says, "Before granting you a place at my side, I must ask you what you have learned, what you believe in."God asks Obama first: “What do you believe?"

He thinks long and hard, looks God in the eye, and says, "I believe in hard work, and in staying true to family and friends. I believe in giving. I was lucky, but I always tried to do right by my countrymen".
God can’t help but see the essential goodness of Obama , and offers him a seat to his left.

Then God turns to Hillary and says, "What do you believe?"

Hillary says, "I believe passion, discipline, courage and honor are the fundamentals of life. Like Obama I believe in hard work. I, too, have been lucky, but win or lose, I've always tried to be a true patriot and a loyal American."

God is greatly moved by Hillary's eloquence, and he offers her a seat to his right.

Finally, God turns to Trump and says, "And you, Donald, what do you believe?"

Trump replies, "I believe you're in my seat."

When someone is as passionate about running as I am only good things can come out of the dedication that is involved. It is one of the main reasons I started my blog. Apparently Dec 9th is a big day on the career front for me. 6 years ago today I resigned from my job at MSG, 3 years ago today I was promoted to assistant controller, and today I accepted a new job as director of accounting operations at a law firm in the city!! Wonder what will happen 3 years from today 😊

PRAYERSREQUESTED: Colon, Philip J. (MC1962) prays for Luke and Gordon

2016-Dec-10

Good Evening All,

A prayer of thanks is very much in order. Our Littlest Jasper, Luke,  has been home since Wednesday and doing well. The MDs are saying he will not have another seizure and he is responding well in his recovery. Luke's Family thank you for your prayers and kind thoughts. This little Jasper is on the mend. Please keep him in your prayers as well as his Mom, Dad and Grandparents. They are all sharing Luke's wonderful smile again.

Some sad news. George Skau's Cousin, Gordon Skau, who has been in our prayers, was called home. Gordon, a wounded and Decorated Korean War Veteran, on Wednesday, December 7, 2016, entered the Kingdom of Heaven and is at rest in God's Eternal Embrace. We pray for the repose of Gordon's Soul, for George and their Family as they mourn Gordon's passing. There will be a Mass of Christian Burial, date to be announced.

Thank you. God Bless.

Colon, Philip J. (MC1962)

ENDNOTE: Women's MMA is abhorrent to me

American football could fall like the gladiators of ancient Rome

After Christianity killed off gladiatorial combat, Roman fans switched to chariot racing, “which flourished massively as a result,” Heather said. The ascent of the blood-soaked culture of the UFC demonstrates that Americans’ thirst for violence has far from disappeared, but rather migrated to a new Coliseum next door.

Personally, I can “tolerate” American football. The athletes are well compensated for the risks they take. I can’t “tolerate” the fans who think that they are “participating”. “Our” team doesn’t win; the owners, networks, and to a certain extent the players “win”. I can’t get too upset when my beloved Jints play badly. Or too elated when they play well. I am just the couch potatoe watching from the peanut gallery.

I understand that boxing has morphed into MMA. And ever women are getting in the act.

To me, that’s revolting.

Two men or women beating the <synonym for excrement> out of each other is NOT my idea of entertainment.

I do object to the wussification of men, and to a certain extent women, in today’s society. Colleges with their “safe zones” and political correctness are a symptom of what’s wrong.

I saw it on Facebook in a nut shell:
