This is the story that we should be seeing on the news.

A white police officer and a bystander saving a life.

It wasn’t a Black Life, a White Life, or a Blue Life. It’s just God’s creation — a human life.

That’s what should be on display. Our “love” for one another.

Hero of the Maine: Father John Chidwick
Donald R. McClarey • October 3, AD2016

*** begin quote ***

Night, February 15, 1898, the American battleship USS Maine lay at anchor in the harbor of Havana.  Although tensions were running high between the US government and Spain, the colonial power occupying Cuba, the night was calm.  Suddenly, at 9:40 PM,  a huge explosion devastated the forward section of the Maine, an external explosion setting off the powder in the magazines of the Maine.  Into this vision of hell on Earth strode the Catholic Chaplain of the Maine, John P. Chidwick.

John Chidwick, third Catholic Chaplain in Us Naval History

Born in New York City on October 23, 1863,  John Chidwick graduated from Manhattan College with a BA (1883) and an MA (1885).  Ordained at St. Joseph’s Seminary in Dunwoodie, New York in 1887,  he spent several years serving as a parish priest before being commissioned in 1895 as the third Catholic Chaplain in the history of the United States Navy.  He was eventually assigned to the Maine.  He rapidly became popular with the members of the crew, no matter their religion.  Friendly and outgoing, he did whatever he could to help the crew and was always available to listen to their problems.

Kopicki is a lifelong Westchester resident and graduate of Manhattan College. He comes to county government from the New York City Department of Environmental Protection, where he was a senior manager. Previous to that he supervised capital projects for the City of Yonkers, as well as a multi-jurisdictional construction project in New York City for Lockheed Martin. He also has a decade of experience managing facility and transportation operations from when he served as director of engineering and capital projects for the Roosevelt Island Operating Corp.

“It’s an honor to serve the community where I grew up and where my wife and I raised our three sons,” Kopicki said. “Having built my reputation on delivering capital projects on time and on budget, I look forward to working with County Executive Astorino, managing a 5-year capital plan that invests $1 billion into our infrastructure and creates nearly 11,000 construction jobs.”

Don Dunphy is a legendary sports announcer who worked in both radio and television from 1940 into the 1980’s. He was born in July of 1908 and passed away in July of 1998, so this book was written in his retirement as he approached 80 years old. While Dunphy did work as a correspondent for newspapers while attending Manhattan College in the late 1920’s, he never claimed to be a writer or an author, and this is the only book that Dunphy wrote. Because of his status in the field of broadcasting, Dunphy is in the The

What does Manhattan College Have in Common With Wells Fargo?
September 17, 2016

*** begin quote ***

I was reading an article in NYT this morning about Wells Fargo Bank reaching a settlement to pay 185 million because their employees had created false credit card accounts in order to meet sales goals.

*** and ***

MC is tolerating this behavior which goes against 100 % of the vision and mission philosophy expressed on their web site. Why?  Is it because they are ignoring their own guidelines in order to meet their ever expanding goals for more student enrollment?   Is it because even though it is wrong, it leads to profits and won’t affect their bottom line?  Is it because the difficult and up close and personal work of knowing your students, making sure they understand and support your mission, and most importantly, protecting and educating them until they reach an acceptable level of moral development (see “Stages of Moral Development” post) is not cost effective?

Manhattan College, stop acting like a bank.

JOBIT: Reilly, James Francis Sr. [MC???? RIP] on 2016-Oct-01

2016-Oct-07

James Francis Reilly Sr.
Obituary

James Francis Reilly Sr. passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 1 at his home in Granite Bay.

As both engineer and father, Jim will be remembered as a builder. In his role as co-founder of JR Roberts Corporation, Jim built a number of large and lasting structures in the community, including Sacramento landmark Raley Field. At home he built a family, producing two daughters and three sons he was so proud to call his children. Jim was a New Yorker, born and raised. Growing up in Astoria, Queens, he excelled in school and sports. For the rest of his life he was famous among those who knew him for his talent in numbers and basketball.

After graduating from Manhattan College with a degree in Civil Engineering, he moved west to San Francisco. From there he found his way to Sacramento, where he started a family and began his successful career in the construction business.

He is survived by his loving wife of 32 years Joanne, by his five children Joan, Jennifer, James, Chris, and Jack, and by his siblings, Agnes, Jack, Mary and Dan in addition to many loving in-laws, nieces, nephews and friends.

Everyone he met was an immediate friend, greeted always by his familiar handshake and a quick, funny joke. He was an avid golfer who spent hours on the range and enjoyed rounds with friends and family as often as possible. Off the course Jim applied his engineering skills to projects big and small, most recently a beautiful remodeling of his daughter Jennifer's kitchen. Above all, Jim enjoyed anything where family surrounded him. His genuine warmth and sense of humor always put people at ease, made them feel important, and inspired them to be the best they could be. Every corner of the universe he touched is brighter thanks to his presence. He will be missed greatly.

A ceremony, open to all, will be held on Saturday, October 8, 4:00 PM at Bartley Cavanaugh Golf Course. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to the Cancer Research Institute.

ENDNOTE: Sheridan, Peter T. (MC1981) quotes a friend's insights

2016-Oct-08

FROM FACEBOOK

Peter Sheridan

Peter Sheridan Above the Law move along people.... please distract with 11 year old private conversation....
I copied this from Jim Ruth
Who wrote:

I am a husband, a father of two daughters and grandfather of one granddaughter. There is no apologizing for Donald Trump’s comments, and I wouldn’t try.

What does need to be said is what I’ve said about this election in different words at different times. It would be marvelous if one of the options available to us this year were a paragon of virtue. That would make the choice easy. But that isn’t the case.

We, The Universally Flawed People, have to choose between two flawed human beings to determine who will be the leader of our country for the next four years. I’m not happy with the set of flaws that either of them present, but to be honest I’m not at all happy with my own set of flaws. If you don’t feel the same, I’d suggest the possibility that arrogance is among your flaws.

So, as always, I return to the question of who is more likely to lead this nation in a manner that I believe will be more beneficial to the most individual Americans and to the nation as a whole.

Trump’s failings have not involved lack of proper vigilance in the care of information sensitive to security interests of the United States. Clinton’s have.

Trump’s failings have not involved lying to the families of fallen soldiers about the nature of the conflict in which they fell – or lying to the American people about lying to those families. Clinton’s have.

Trump’s failings have not included having received (both she and her husband) millions of dollars for speaking engagements (hers and her husband’s) to groups that are appropriately called special interest groups that her power, influence or authority could benefit while she held public office. Clinton’s have.

Trump’s failings have not included receiving tens of millions of dollars of contributions into a family foundation from countries whose mistreatment of women goes far beyond some crude remarks. Contributions whose treatment of LGBTQ people includes killing them by throwing them off buildings, stoning them and beheading them. Contributions from countries that one could reasonably assume would desire preferential treatment from the Secretary of State of the United States. Clinton’s included all of that.

Trump’s failings have not involved helping to facilitate an international deal that turned over to Russia 20% of the uranium production of the United States. Clinton’s have.

Trump’s failings have not included helping move massive numbers of jobs to other countries. Clinton’s have. In fact, she helped move so many jobs from the United States to India that she could say to a group in India in 2005 “I am delighted to be the Senator from Punjab as well as from New York.”

So yes, Donald Trump has faults. Some of them serious or morally objectionable. None of his faults, though, have involved betrayal of the United States of America and its people. Clinton’s have.

I’ve said all along that the choices we’ve been given are “sub-optimal” at best. But you have to pick one. And, imho, there is no real choice here. The two minor parties have both lost their collective minds — the L’s have gone Republican lite and the Greens a socialist to the left of Bernie. So you have DJT and HRC.

IN MY HUMBLE OPINION

Both have warts and flaws, but HRC is (a) sick with Parkinson; (b) has engaged in multiple counts of criminal behavior throughout her political life; and (c) is obsessed with gaining the Presidency to complete her insane ambition.

I’m not asking anyone to agree or disagree. I’m just using my ENDNOTE to echo what a fellow Jasper has shared. And it was much better than I could have written. But then I’m just a fat old white guy injineer.

Trump is the prettiest horse in the glue factory coral.

Dona Nobis Pacem and more likely to be the “peace President”.
