POSITRACTION: ¼ of a million is now really “chump change”

2016-May-15

A stranger in Arizona
How the kindness of a complete stranger helped a family navigate their nightmare after a horrific car accident

*** begin quote ***

Sumona could have looked the other way. After all she is a very busy person. She runs her own company — Thrive Elder Assist, a companion care agency — and has three children of her own. But she recognized the need. And the nightmare to come.

So she stayed.

It all started a couple of miles from the Hoover Dam on a completely quiet stretch of two lane highway, a car zig-zagged and then darted into the opposite lane traveling 75–85 miles per hour.

The car slammed into the vehicle carrying the Ghosh family, who were on a vacation to visit the Grand Canyon. The car hit the Ghosh family’s vehicle right on the passenger side. The car buckled and split in two. Witnesses say they saw the car turn into a mangled mess as it was airborne in the sky.

*** end quote ***

I read the whole story and was moved. Hard to imagine anyone not being moved as well.

Argh!

https://www.crowdrise.com/standbytai

On 17 Jan 16, my fiancé has a single car ice related accident. (She survived; the car didn’t!) And, she had insurance. Last count, the bill is approaching 240K$. And, she “only” lost her arm. This poor baby may never fully recover. So they are dependent upon the generosity of strangers.

And, the love of people like Sumona, the lady who stayed to help. (Reminds me of the Parable of the Good Samaritan.)

So, of course, I chipped in a few bucks. Urge you to consider doing likewise.

And, I’m checking my insurance policy for its limits. ¼ of a million is now really “chump change”.

COMMENT: Costello, Donald (MC1954) suggests the Rosary

2016-May-22

Donald Costello

When you are arrogant it is easy to shout “naïve” and the jabber on like you understand the variety of evil in the world’s ban man arsenal.

Get off your bar seat and start saying the Rosary again.

# - # - #

Costello, Donald (MC1954)

[JR: Thanks for participating. (1) I believe that the greatest evil is what we allow to be done to our fellow man and ourselves. Acting “in our name” with “the consent of the governed”, we kill, steal, and maim. I think NOT to recognize that essential fact would be “arrogant” of me.  (2) I note that you did not dispute any of the basic points I made. May favorite is “alcohol Prohibition required a Constitutional Amendment, but drug prohibition did not”. (3) I never pretend to be a Saint. But, I’d never presume to tell others what to do. In fact, I only “call out”, like Church leaders who condone pedophiles. Or Hollywood Clebreties who speak as “authorities” on one topic or another. And others that say one thing is required of “us”, but do another for themselves. Dona Nobis Pacem.]

COMMENT: Costello, Donald (MC1954) recommends the Rosary

2016-May-23

Costello, Donald (MC1954)

Donald Costello

Yes the world is full of really bad guys who do bad things and there seems to be more of them. In all my days in New York City I never met a pederast priest. But the devil knew the way to tear up the church and get at its leaders. So now what do we do? Give up on Christ? No we get on our knees and say the Rosary.

It is too bad the Manhattan gave up on the Angelus but I am told the bells are again ringing at noon to possibly remind all present to remember that “we are in the Holy presence of God”.

[JR: We, as the laity, can demand that the hierarchy purge this evil. Stopping the donations is — unfortunately — the best way to get their attention. Note this doesn’t mean ignoring the poor; just cutting out the middleman, imho.]

JEMAIL: Colon, Philip J. (MC1962) on the true meaning of Memorial Day

2016-May-26

Colon, Philip J. (MC1962)

*** begin quote ***

Good Morning All,

Romans 14:8 - " If we live, we live to the lord, and if we die, we die to the lord. So, whether we live or die, we belong to the lord."

Those words were spoken by the loving Twin Sister of 1ST LT. Ashley Irene White Stumpf at Ashley's Funeral Mass. LT. White was killed, October 22, 2011, when an IED took her life and that of two male United States Army Rangers, members of her team in Afghanistan, Kandahar Province.

Ashley was the first member killed of the Cultural Support Team, the first all Female Military Team to serve in Combat with Special Ops, 75th U.S. Army Ranger Regiment, Kandahar Province, Afghanistan. LT. White was 24 years old when she gave her life. Her life was an example to all of Courage, Compassion, dedication to serve others and love of God, Country and her fellow man. When you see Ashley's smile, you see how she brought light to any room.

Colonel Mark O'Donnell, Deputy Commanding Officer of the 75th Ranger Regiment Eulogized Ashley at her Funeral when he read " The Man In The Arena." " She is the Man in the Arena he said, Ashley, Rest in Peace. Know that your Ranger Brothers have mourned you and now continue the fight. A fight that you have committed your life to." He presented Ashley the Bronze Star, The Purple Heart and Ashley's Combat Action Badge. She also received the Meritorious Service Medal and the Afghan Campaign Medal. He said that Ashley frequently was the only Female on the Objective, he asked, can you imagine what courage that took."

" Ashley, her Sister said died doing what she loved, serving others."

" Capt. Jason Stumpf, U.S Army, Ashley's Husband said, I was not a perfect
Husband, Ashley was a perfect Wife."

This Memorial Day, we remember the Fallen. All who serve sign a Blank check to our Country. They sign it willingly, serve with honor and pride. These Warriors are our heroes, they don't wear capes. " They wear Dog Tags " and they make our barbecues and celebrations possible.

Today, We pray for the 134 other Female American Warriors who have died in Afghanistan and Iraq and their 6200 Lost Brothers in Arms. We remember too, all those who have served and serve our Country. God Bless them and their Families.

" All Gave Some, Some Gave All." Thank you for reading this. God Bless.

Questions Are Tools for Career Success, Bouyer Tells Graduates
May 24, 2016
By: Diane Stirling

*** begin quote ***

Among all the questions posed to students during their years of schooling, and all those they’ve asked themselves throughout their college years, School of Information Studies Convocation speaker and EY executive Ken Bouyer pitched the graduates a few more.

“Whose shoulders are you standing on?” he questioned, explaining, “None of us got here alone.” And then: “What’s the next phase of questions you’ll face?”

Ken Bouyer speaking at the 2016 iSchool Convocation ceremony

Bouyer, EY’s director of inclusiveness recruiting, told the iSchool’s 2016 graduating classes that from now on, the questions they will ask, and answer, in life will be of a very different nature than the ones they’ve used to learn and to collect information. Now, “those questions are going to make the world better,” he said. That’s because questions aren’t simply what you ask when you don’t know; they serve as tools you can use to bridge cultures, different workstyles, diverse backgrounds, and opposing viewpoints, he advised. “Questions are what you ask when you want to unlock possibilities, harness the power of different perspectives, drive innovation. They’re what you ask when you refuse to settle for the way it’s always been, when you want to grow, develop and improve yourself and the world around you,” Bouyer said.

Victor J. & Beatrice E. DiRocco
Victor J. DiRocco 5/23/1922 – 1/3/2016
Beatrice E. DiRocco4/25/1923 – 1/9/2016

Victor J. DiRocco and Beatrice E. DiRocco, loving and committed spouses, and residents of their Los Altos home since 1957, were granted their wish to remain together to the end, passing away six days apart on January 3rd and 9th, 2016.

Victor and Beatrice were both born in New York, and were acquaintances since grade-school. Married for over 68 years, Vic and Bea lived in Hartford, CT before moving the growing family to California in 1956.

Vic, fluent in Italian and French, served with the U.S. Army Office of Strategic Services in London and Paris as a surgical technician during WWII. Following honorable discharge, Vic resumed college changing his major from medicine to chemistry at Manhattan College, and received his master's degree in bacteriology at St. John's University, New York.

In 1950 Vic began his professional career at Heublein Inc. in production management and quality control. The family moved to Los Altos when Vic became QC Manager at the under-construction Menlo Park facility, later becoming Plant Manager and retiring for the first time at age 57 as VP. Bea handily raised their four children, insuring that annual vacations were possible by clever use of resources so as to visit many of the country's monuments, parks, and relatives in many states. Restless in retirement, Vic joined Underwriter's Laboratories as a certification inspector, until fully retiring over a decade later.

Vic and Bea were also active in later years, Vic surprising many with his skills in woodcarving. He was also a member of SIRS and was dedicated to the American Legion. Bea always enjoyed gardening, and advanced her survival skills of sewing as a mother to include embroidery, also learning calligraphy (Pacific Scribes), watercolor and paper craft. After a family trip to Japan in 1981, they became enthused with travel and visited many parts of the world; twice to Italy meeting Vic's cousins and relatives. Vic and Bea were founding members of St. William's Church in Los Altos, and served as volunteers until no longer physically able.

Vic was the last survivor of the four siblings, preceded in death by: Frank of Great Falls, MT, Adam of Syracuse NY, and Julia of New York, NY. Bea had one sister Caroline Weeks of Ft. Pierce FL, who predeceased her. Victor and Beatrice are survived by their four children: Donald (Huong) of Oakland, Kenneth of Cupertino, Robert of Lodi, and Joan (Gene) in Mountain View, and a grandson Thomas, of Oakland, CA.

As per their request a private internment was held at Gates of Heaven Cemetery in Los Altos, including a U.S. Army ceremony for decorated service.

On this glorious day we pray for those on our prayer list and our special intentions and of course we pray for our Veterans, past and serving, as we thank them for their sacrifice and hold them in our hearts with respect and gratitude on this Memorial Day.

Your prayers are asked for Tim Mante's Father-in-Law, Edward J. Murphy. Mr Murphy is going throug a Clinical Drug Trial for Leukemia at Memorial Sloan Kettering. We pray that the treatment is successful and we pray for his Family. Thank you. God Bless.

Chick-fil-A, Bill De Blasio, And The Drive To Eliminate Christianity
Written by: Jarred Moss  Worldview

*** begin quote ***

Who would have thought that a chicken restaurant could cause such a firestorm of strife?

Earlier this month, New York City Mayor Bill De Blasio made headlines when he called for a controversial boycott of a Chick-fil-A that opened in the Queens Center Mall. De Blasio, a politician with very liberal-leaning policies, went as far as to say that the fast food restaurant’s leadership is “wrong” in regards to their beliefs and stance regarding traditional marriage.

Chick-fil-A has long been a standard-bearer in business when it comes to integrity, values and Christian beliefs. In fact, CEO Dan Cathy of Georgia hasn’t exactly been one to shy away from his Christian faith, professing a strict view of the biblical definition of marriage as a covenant between one man and one woman. De Blasio, though, is a strong supporter of same-sex marriage.

The problem, though, isn’t the differences between Cathy and De Blasio over a significant issue. The problem is that De Blasio, a portrait of the liberal movement, epitomizes the supreme hypocrisy of the far-left wing in society. De Blasio’s blasting of Chick-fil-A comes due to his argument that the chicken restaurant is “intolerant” of other beliefs.

“What the owner of Chick-fil-A has said is wrong,” De Blasio said “I’m certainly not going to patronize them and I wouldn’t urge any other New Yorker to patronize them.”

(1) Who died and left De Blasio the arbiter of “right and wrong”?

(2) Tolerance, in De Blasio’s world view, doesn’t apply to Christians?

Sorry, Comrade De Blasio, — to steal Curtis Sliwa’s nickname for De Blasio — but you are Constitutionally prohibited from creating your own state religion.

The Dead Old White Guys recognized that sectarian violence was a sure way to cause strife.

So when do we take the Left Liberals to task for their sectarian “violent” anti-Christian  rhetoric and actions?

Maybe when they are loading folks on the trains again? I’m not going quietly regardless of who they take first.

“First they came …” is a famous statement and provocative poem attributed to pastor Martin Niemöller (1892–1984) about the cowardice of German intellectuals following the Nazis' rise to power and the subsequent purging of their chosen targets, group after group. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/First_they_came_...

Argh!
