black lab started pulling hard on his leash, yanking Jeff down the
dirt road in a particular direction. As Bobby feverishly sniffed

a rock or a baby rabbit on the ground. Moments later, he realized
the shocking truth: Bobby led Jeff to a newborn baby with her
umbilical cord still attached.

Yonkers, NY, October 18, 2015 --(PR.com)-- José Martin Jara, Esq., has been elected president of the board of directors at Leake & Watts, an award-winning New York City nonprofit human services agency. Mr. Jara, who is a principal and national practice leader of multiemployer plans at Buck Consultants, LLC, A Xerox Company, joined the board in 2011, having learned about Leake & Watts through BoardServeNYC, a United Way resource that connects nonprofits with candidates ready to join a board. Since then, he has seen Leake & Watts nearly double in size, and he expects its rapid growth to continue during his two-year term.
Leake & Watts Executive Director Alan Mucatel remarked that Mr. Jara exemplifies the new face of philanthropy in New York City. “The current generation of supporters approach their volunteer work with the same intensity that they approach business,” Mr. Mucatel said. “They understand the need for speed and strategic thinking as the world evolves, and that if a nonprofit agency isn’t growing, then it is falling behind. José and our other board members are comfortable with change, and they help ensure that our agency can grow quickly and responsibly.”
Mr. Jara said he was attracted to the agency because of its work with at-risk populations. “Leake & Watts has used and will continue to use its core expertise to expand into new areas where human services support is greatly needed by children, adults, and families in the Greater New York area,” explained Mr. Jara who has an older sister with developmental disabilities. Leake & Watts’ dedication to helping individuals such as his sister succeed struck a chord with him. “These individuals need assistance, because they are not capable of doing it all themselves,” he said. “Providing them with educational support helps open doors for them.”
A resident of Williamsburg, Brooklyn, he added that he is firmly committed to Leake & Watts’ mission. “I am and my fellow board members are dedicated to continually growing and strengthening this remarkable agency, and helping at-risk populations through education, therapeutic support, and vocational training.”
Mr. Jara graduated with a BS in Managerial Science from Manhattan College and was awarded a JD in Law from Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law, Yeshiva University. He obtained an LLM and certificate in employee benefits law from Georgetown University Law Center. In addition to his service to Leake & Watts, Mr. Jara is a member of the board and chairman of the HR committee at The Center for Family Support, and is a member and recording secretary of the Cardozo Alumni Association’s Executive Committee. Cardozo Law School has honored him twice by presenting him with the BALLSA Alumnus of the Year Award and the Cardozo Alumni Association’s Volunteer Service Award.

Beloved husband of Pandora (nee Georgopoulos). Devoted father of Amelia and Dionysios. Loving son of Emilia and the late Dionisios. Dearest brother of Kali Tsukalas, Alexandra Natsoulis and Katherine Mouzakitis. Also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins here and abroad.
Alexandros was a graduate of Manhattan College. He worked for MGE in New York City.

Obituary
John G. Hoare of Yorktown Heights passed away on October 12, 2015.
He was 69 years old. John worked in finance at the Wildlife Conservatory Society. He was born in 1945 in the Bronx, NY, to John and Mary Hoare. John served in the Armed Forces in Vietnam and did his post-graduate studies in public administration.
He will be remembered for his caring manner and compassion for his family and others.
He is survived by his wife, Robby, his daughters, Allyson and Lesley and his grandchildren, Bradley and Tucker. He was well-loved and will be truly missed.
Calling hours are Monday, October 19th from 2 - 4pm and 7 - 9pm at Clark Funeral Home in Yorktown Heights. The Mass of Christian Burial is Tuesday, October 20th, 10:30am, at New St. Patrick's Church in Yorktown Heights. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Guiding Eyes for the Blind - Autism Dog Program.

HIGGINS - Eugene P., of Bay Shore, LI, on October 20, 2015 at the age of 94.
Beloved husband of the late Margaret. Cherished father of Gregory (Linda) Higgins, Susan Hickey, Capt. Paul (Mary Liz) Higgins, U.S.N. and Matthew (Beth) Higgins. Cherished grandfather of nine and great grandfather of six.
Eugene attended Manhattan College and enlisted in the United States Navy in 1942. He earned his wings at Pensicola and joined the Fighting Squadron VF-13. He flew fighters from the deck of the USS Franklin and participated in battles from Guam to the Phillipines.
He returned to Long Island and worked in Newsday's Advertising Department for 36 years retiring as Vice President and Advertsing Director.
He was a tutor and Vice President with Nassau Literacy Volunteers.
Reposing at The Fredrick J. Chapey & Sons West Islip Funeral Home, 1225 Montauk Hwy. (1/4 mile west of the Robert Moses Cswy.). Celebration of the Liturgy of Christian Burial Saturday 8:45 AM at St. Patrick's R.C. Church, Bay Shore, LI. Cremation is private. Visiting Friday 2:00 PM until 4:30 PM and 7:00 PM until 9:30 PM.

Please pray for the repose of the soul of Harry Schum, an old friend from St. Barnabas, who was called home on Tuesday, 10/20/15. Please keep Mr. Schum in your prayers and his large Family as they mourn the loss of their loved one.
We also pray for a long time friend of Mike's, Judge Duncan S. MacAffer and his Family. Judge MacAffer is in Hospice care. We pray that he is comfortable and that if he is called home, that his passing is peaceful.

SWEENEY Eugene W., MD, prominent dermatologist, of Tenably, NJ, passed away peacefully on October 21, 2015 at Villa Marie Claire Hospice in Saddle River surrounded by his beloved family, after a series of strokes.
He was born on May 25, 1934, to the late John and Marian (Leonard) Sweeney of Breezy Point, NY and was educated in New York City. He graduated from St. Augustine Diocesan High School in Brooklyn and completed his undergraduate work at Manhattan College. He received his medical degree at New York Medical College, completed a rotating internship at Brooklyn Hospital Center and did a residency and fellowship at New York Presbyterian Hospital Columbia Campus and St. Luke's Hospital Center. He pursued further study in Berlin, Dublin, Oxford and Plymouth, England.
He was elected a Fellow of the Royal College of Medicine while in Oxford. He belonged to the American Board of Dermatology and practiced dermatology for 55 years.
He served two tours of active duty in the United States Navy and after decades in the reserves he retired with the rank of Captain.
Dr. Sweeney had a private practice in Teaneck for over 40 years and was past Chief of Dermatology at Holy Name Hospital. In addition, he derived great pleasure and satisfaction from teaching residents as Associate Clinical Professor of Dermatology at the Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center. He had a very large presence and was a mentor to many, quick to dispense fatherly advice. He concluded his career at Metropolitan Dermatology.
An outstanding doctor beloved by his patients, Dr. Sweeney was also an avid reader and had deep knowledge in many areas, including art, languages, politics, finance and nature. He was committed to the mission of the Boy Scouts of America by being heavily involved in Troop 86, Tenafly.
He loved to travel, particularly to international destinations. He was a passionate golfer, accomplished gardener, stock trader, pianist, joke and storyteller and photographer. He always had a camera in his hand and chronicled all family events but enjoyed posing for photos especially with his beloved grandchildren. He loved celebrations of any kind with family and friends and never failed to savor a good piece of cake. He was proud to say hello and numerous phrases to all his patients in their native languages.
He attended both Our Lady of Mount Carmel and the Society of African Missions (SMA Fathers) in Tenafly.
While serving in the Navy he met the love of his life Dianne (Card) Sweeney at a USO dance and the two were married on October 24, 1964. He passed away days before their 51st wedding anniversary.
Above all he cherished his family. Survivors include his wife Dianne of Tenafly; son, Edward, wife Tina and his son Kevin of Phoenix, AZ; son, Sean and his wife Erin and their children Gabriel and Cira of Scituate, MA; two sisters-in-law and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives, patients, students and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Marian Sweeney; and his brothers Leonard and William Sweeney.
The family will receive friends on Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at Barrett Funeral Home, 148 Dean Drive, Tenafly. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be said at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church Tenafly on Tuesday at 10 AM. Burial will follow in the Mount Carmel Cemetery Tenafly. Two championship teams and eight individuals make up the 2015 Hall of Fame class.
On Saturday, Nov. 7, eight former Manhattan College student-athletes will be inducted into the College’s Athletic Hall of Fame and two of the College’s most memorable teams will receive special recognition at the 37th annual Hall of Fame ceremony.
The event will begin with a Mass in the Chapel of De La Salle and His Brothers at 4 p.m., followed by a cocktail reception, dinner and induction ceremony in the Great Room of the Raymond W. Kelly ’63 Student Commons beginning at 5 p.m. Individuals interested in attending can register online.

Jobs requiring social media skills have grown 1357 percent in the past three years. Attendees who tweet, post, follow or do none of the above will benefit by attending this interactive event. The discussion plans to cover the dynamic field of Social Media, and how it is being used by businesses to interact and listen to their customers. Naasz plans to review the common mistakes that businesses make using Social Media, as well as the new programs that Centenary College is now offering for those who wish to study Social Media Marketing.
Naasz has held positions as associate professor of business at Centenary College, president of IACBE Middle States Region, Global executive director at AT&T, and co-founder of a start-up online company. Through her corporate and personal experience, she has launched five businesses and has global work experience in more than 14 countries. Naasz holds a bacehlor’s in electrical engineering from Manhattan College and a master’s in Management from Stanford University.
