POSITRACTION: An act of charity at a Waffle House

‘Everybody Cried’: 11 People Inside a Waffle House Watched in Awe as a 5-Year-Old Boy Put His Faith to Action
May. 18, 2015 8:56pm Jason Howerton

*** begin quote ***

Josiah Duncan, a 5-year-old boy from Prattville, Alabama, was eating with his mother at a Waffle House restaurant when he noticed a dirty-looking man holding a bag outside. He was immediately curious and concerned.

*** and ***

But it would be the boy’s final gesture — after the food arrived — that would leave the entire room in tears, according to the mother.

Josiah belted out a passionate blessing of the food in the middle of the Waffle House.
“God our Father, God our Father, we thank you, we thank you, for our many blessings, for our many blessings, Amen, Amen,” he proclaimed.

*** end quote ***

I hope that I can match this young boy’s example.

It’s one thing to get his Mom to buy the man food. It’s another to sit and pray with a smelly old vagrant.

Humbling.

Website gives humorous home to 'stepchild' of publishing world

CATHERINE LAUGHLIN, FOR THE INQUIRER
POSTED: Wednesday, June 3, 2015, 3:01 AM

*** begin quote ***

Donna Cavanagh says the world is brimming with mockable material - like the sex toy designed for those grieving the loss of a partner. The glass device can be filled with ashes of your dead lover.

"I mean, come on. That story was like handing me gold," Cavanagh, 53, of East Norriton, says of the essay she wrote about it.

Her writing finds a home on the website she founded four years ago, Humor Outcasts, where now more than 100 other humorists - cartoonists, novelists, stand-up comedians, and TV producers and writers, many well-known - contribute essays, memes, parodies, satires, and cringe comedy at a blush-under-R rating. A dozen or so posts run daily, collectively amassing 3,000 to 7,000 hits - with the occasional piece reaping viral traffic of 30,000 views or more for HumorOutcasts.com.

*** and ***

Cavanagh was born into a big Italian clan hailing from Manhattan's Little Italy. Her family moved to Bergen County, N.J., where she attended the all-girl Academy of Holy Angels prep school run by the Sisters of Notre Dame. Her teachers said her writing was funny.

She met her future husband, Edward, a computer engineer at Manhattan College, where she took journalism courses but majored in business. Soon after college, they married and moved to Pennsylvania. She freelanced for a communications company and edited books. She then worked as a night reporter for the Times Herald in Montgomery County.

Her daughter Coleen, now 27, was a toddler. Sleep-deprived days and blistered feet from high heels stoked plenty of Cavanagh's humor pieces that subsequently appeared in First magazine, More magazine, emerging mommy blogs, and in a neighboring paper, the Mercury. (Her essays appear in four books, including Life on the Off Ramp, a USA Book News National Best Books 2010 finalist.)

HumorOutcasts.com is THE place to take a humor break. Founded by Donna Cavanagh, it is the result of a brainstorming session between several humor writers who longed for a site where humor could thrive without fear of being censored as it was on many of the bigger internet blogging sites. On many occasions, Donna and other humorists felt like outcasts in the internet writing world watching their work get flagged or removed when editors felt uncomfortable with content.  With the technical help of her engineer husband, Donna was able to create HUMOROUTCASTS.com or HO a site that encourages writers  to push the envelope and spread their creative wings.  On HO, you will find humorists, stand-up comics, entertainers, cartoonists, TV writers/producers, screenwriters and some  writers of serious subject matter — all who believe in the power of laughter.  We hope you take your time and read the work of the writers here who cover a wide variety of topics.  The work posted ranges from G-rated material to material that might just make you blush.  There is something for everyone and there is fresh content daily.

I had an exciting and never to be forgotten set of experiences of the then Cold War that is still with us today. Col Welter, Major Hector Rosa and Sgt, Develera were names I remember from the leadership with Jim Conroy, Bruce Cunningham, Parker Stone, Joe O'Dea, Ed Grenier, Paul Sullivan and many others who left that summer for their three year tour. I ended up in Air Force Intelligence in the Foreign Technology Division at Wright Patterson AFB after school at Keesler and a tour at Eielson AFB in Alaska.

Father Galvin

*** begin quote ***

When Father Bill Galvin joined the Maryknoll Fathers in 1955, he wanted to be a missionary in China. But it wasn’t until 1999 that he finally arrived in the mainland Asian country, after assignments in the Philippines, Nepal and the Holy Land.

*** and ***

Father Galvin learned about Maryknoll when a member of the order came to the parish to preach one Sunday and he expressed interest. While at Loughlin, another Maryknoller visited the classroom and his name was still on the recruiter’s list.

After listening to Msgr. Fulton J. Sheen preach on a Good Friday in Manhattan and then spending a few quiet days with a friend in Pennsylvania, he made up his mind to forego Manhattan College and sign up with Maryknoll.

Dear John,

I want to thank you for your generous assistance to the children of Addis Hope. There are not many people who can say, as you can, that they have greatly helped change the direction of a child’s life – in this case an Addis Hope child. That life was the result of brutal dehumanizing poverty. Now there is hope through education. What I find remarkable and gratifying is that I’m sure all this is nothing new to you given the mass media in our world, yet you have continued your support despite many other valid claims on that support. For that, the children of Addis Hope continue to hold you in daily prayer.

God bless,

Greg

P.S.

You can continue to assist by enlisting at least one other to broaden our partner base.

[JR: I know that the best works are done in secret. But I’ll pull back the veil to let everyone know about a great charity. I’ve included the address below so your works can remain secret. Dona Nobis Pacem,]

JLINKEDIN: Keating, John [MC2008] looking for pro's to inspire children

2015-Jun-10

REPORTING LIVE FROM THE LINKEDIN NEWS DESK
IN THE VIRTUAL JASPER JOTTINGS NEWSROOM ...

Undergraduate Alum 08' and Graduate Alum 12' looking for help with his students

My name is John Keating and I am the Middle School and High School Program Director for the Grenville Baker Boys & Girls Club and a Manhattan Undergraduate alum 08’ and Graduate Alum 12’.

I have been working with this organization and the Boys and Girls Club movement for 8 years and have been determined to curb the gender and ethnic gap in STEM fields by introducing Computer Science and Coding programs into our after-school curriculum.

To get the kids really inspired and motivated and participating in the programs, it goes a long way to produce ‘EXPOSURE OPPORTUNITIES’ for our young club members to meet professionals working in the field and in companies they can identify with **Especially SOCIAL MEDIA!

If anybody can offer assistance and help our kids hear from professionals that work for companies such as Snapchat, Vine, Spotify, Google, Facebook, Instagram and all things Silicon Valley in New York, I would be incredibly appreciative.

We have come a long way in developing academics in our after-school programming and curriculum and as an organization we are dedicated to making our Technology programs as special as our Reading, Writing, Arts and College Prep.

Manhattan is where I learned the importance of service, and it would be an honor to collaborate with a fellow Jasper to give back to the community and create experiences for our youth to inspire them to be the technology leaders of tomorrow.

Thank you for your time and consideration. I can be reached at john.keating@gbbgc.org and (516) 528-2908.

2015-Jun-10 REPORTING LIVE FROM THE LINKEDIN NEWS DESK IN THE VIRTUAL JASPER JOTTINGS NEWSROOM ... Undergraduate Alum 08' and …

I am just beginning a one week course for primary and secondary school teachers to teach them how to teach the building of Logo's EV3. It is a week long course for 3 credits here at the University of Nebraska. When the teacher (volunteer, parent) finishes the course they may (and I mean may) be able to help young people learn this also. This Robot is used in a lot of competitions and the kinds love it and get psychic rewards as they learn. I know there a lot of people doing this in New York. If you are interested call the UNIVERSITY of Nebraska -Lincoln and ask for Don Costello and we can talk more.

Elaine and Kevin
November 14, 2015 in Brooklyn, NY
156 days to go!

*** begin quote ***

About a year after first meeting, Kevin and Elaine cemented their friendship with a chance trip to the Bronx Zoo. After months of hard work at the NY Aquarium, Elaine received free passes to the zoo, and Kevin was the only person excited enough about penguins to wake up early on a Saturday morning. Along the scenic stretches of Kingsbridge Road on the Bx9, Kevin and Elaine bonded over a mutual love of indie rock and Roll'n Roaster. A true friendship was born that day at the zoo – the next year was filled with concerts, Jasper Hall dorm hangouts, fine dining at Locke's Loft, late night voyages back on the 1 train, and general good times. Unfortunately, while their friendship bloomed, their love lives sputtered; as true best friends, Kevin and Elaine took turns being there for each other, always ready to lend an ear or a pizza pie from Broadway Joes, and certainly always ready to organize a night out to dance it off, complete with a 4:00 AM Taco Bell run.

As the leaves began to change color in Van Cortandt Park, Kevin and Elaine's feelings began to slowly change as well, until they realized there was no one else they would rather be with than each other. For Kevin, this realization happened on a car ride back from the beautiful DIA Beacon art museum. For Elaine, this happened in a JC Penny in the Garden State Plaza Mall. (After all, if she was willing to go to a NJ mall for him, she must REALLY like him).

ENDNOTE: Saint Louis University gives into pressure

DEATH OF THE WEST
CULTURAL CLEANSING OF CHRISTIAN MALES
Pat Buchanan on desire to dump statues: Aren't we carrying affirmative action bit too far?
Published: 15 hours ago
PATRICK J. BUCHANAN

*** begin quote ***

The culture war against Christianity is picking up speed.

Last week came word Saint Louis University will remove a heroic-sized statue of Father Pierre-Jean De Smet S.J. from the front of Fusz Hall, where it has stood for 60 years.

The statue depicts De Smet holding aloft a crucifix as he ministers to two American Indians, one of whom is kneeling.

Historically, the statue is accurate. Father De Smet, “Blackrobe,” as he was known, was a 19th-century missionary to Indian tribes who converted thousands. A friend of Sitting Bull, he spent his last years in St. Louis.

And as the mission of this Jesuit university is, presumably, to instruct the Catholic young in their faith and send them out into the world to bring the good news of Jesus Christ as Lord and savior to nonbelievers, what exactly is the problem here?

According to SLU Assistant Vice President for Communications Clayton Berry, “some faculty and staff … raised questions about whether the sculpture is culturally sensitive.” Senior Ryan McKinley is more specific: “The statue of De Smet depicts a history of colonialism, imperialism, racism and of Christian and white supremacy.”

But if the founder of Christianity is the Son of God, then Christianity is a superior religion. What Ryan and those faculty and staff seem to be ashamed of, uncomfortable with, or unable to defend, is the truth for which Saint Louis University was supposed to stand.

But simply because they are cowardly, or politically correct, why should that statue be going into the SLU art museum? Why should not they themselves depart for another institution where their sensitivities will not be assaulted by artistic expressions of religious truths?

The message the SLU president should have given the dissenters is simple: We are a Catholic university that welcomes students and faculty not of the faith. But if you find our identity objectionable, then go somewhere else. We are not changing who we are.

*** end quote ***

Unfortunately, the Gooferment Skrules have taken over.

Catholic Colleges and Universities have become Secular Progressive institutions.

They’ve lost their “Catholic” identity and become yet another socialist propaganda institution.

Just last week, Nancy Pelosi declared that Cruz was not “a good Catholic”. Who died and left her Pope.

It all traces back to folks not willing to fight what they believe in.

The State wants to be the people’s “god” and as such it has to kill “religion” which asserts that the State is not the “supreme being”.

I know as a little L libertarian that I must sound like a broken record.

BUT when does the Catholic Church, the People, or even just “people of good will” stand up and say “NO”?

There are morals. There is right and wrong. There is conduct that is just unacceptable.

When does one fight for their God-given rights as human beings?

“…if you will not fight for the right when you can easily win without bloodshed; if you will not fight when your victory will be sure and not too costly; you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance of survival. There may even be a worse case. You may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves.” -Churchill, The Second World War, vol. 1, The Gathering Storm (London: Cassell, 1948, 272, on the British guarantee to Poland in Spring 1939.

"And how we burned in the camps later, thinking: What would things have been like if every Security operative, when he went out at night to make an arrest, had been uncertain whether he would return alive and had to say good-bye to his family? Or if, during periods of mass arrests, as for example in Leningrad, when they arrested a quarter of the entire city, people had not simply sat there in their lairs, paling with terror at every bang of the downstairs door and at every step on the staircase, but had understood they had nothing left to lose and had boldly set up in the downstairs hall an ambush of half a dozen people with axes, hammers, pokers, or whatever else was at hand? . . ." --- Alexander Solzhenitsyn

Argh!

Perhaps the time is past and the slide is inevitable.

Heaven help our posterity. Heaven help us for our failure.
