There’s so much “need” and it’s great when they get “satisfied”.
In a global world, we need to “help” without creating

Starting in fall 2015, Manhattan College’s School of Arts will undergo a big change: its name. The school will be officially renamed as the School of Liberal Arts after deliberation by college administration and faculty.
Twenty years ago, when the School of Arts and School of Science split into their respective schools, it left the School of Arts with a very misleading name. In fact, the name even caused some students to not enroll at Manhattan College.

Pat Petersen, one of the top marathoners in the U.S. in the 1980s, died from complications due to pancreatic cancer early Sunday at the age of 56.

Petersen wasn’t a star in high school and was known for his wonky, inefficient mechanics, but he was a runner who pushed himself to his limits while training at Manhattan College and as a post-collegiate runner working full-time as a financial analyst on Long Island.

Petersen ended his career working for Dowling College on Long Island. He was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer only 10 weeks ago.
Petersen is survived by his wife, Bea Petersen, a former 2:46 marathoner, and their four children, Maggie, Eric, Jack and Joy.

Our Story
Iain and Alex met during the summer of 2011 when they both found themselves working as camp counselors at a small sleep-away summer camp in northern New Hampshire. Alex, wanting to spend her summer break from Manhattan College doing something a little out of her comfort zone, and Iain, wanting to explore the foreign land of America during his summer break from Manchester University, both had a blast working and forming close friendships that will last a lifetime. As the summer progressed, their close bond turned into a romance. September came around quickly and it was soon time for Alex to head back to New York City and Iain to Manchester, England. They both knew knew this wasn't just a summer romance.
Between Alex's semester abroad in Dublin, Ireland, two more summers at camp, countless hours of video chatting (thank you Skype!), texting, and vacations between the two continents; Alex and Iain made it work for 3 years.
After they both completed their undergraduate degrees at their respective universities, Iain landed a job in Edinburgh, Scotland. Alex decided this was a great opportunity to move over to the UK and complete her master's degree at a university in Edinburgh. Living in the same city confirmed that Iain and Alex were meant to be. After Alex's master program was complete she moved back home to Lynnfield, MA to figure out what the next step in her and Iain's journey would be.
This now brings us to Valentine's Day, 2015. After almost 2 months of top secret planning between Iain and Alex's parents, Iain flew overnight all the way from Scotland to Lynnfield to surprise Alex with a proposal. Alex was shocked, thrilled, and obviously said yes!
Alex and Iain are so excited to share this day with you…let's celebrate!

Manhattan Mourns The Loss Of Father Cullinane

ROCKAWAY BEACH, N.Y. - Former Manhattan College Athletics chaplain, Athletic Hall of Fame member and Class of 1951 graduate the Rev. John F. Cullinane has passed away.
Known fondly by players and coaches as Father Jack, Cullinane was a lifelong supporter of Jasper athletics - from his childhood, to his time as a business student throughout his tenure as the men’s basketball chaplain in the 1960s.
"Father Cullinane, or Father Jack as so many affectionately called him, had a tremendous influence on so many people in and around the Manhattan College athletic community,” said Manhattan College Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Noah D. LeFevre. “He was a wonderful resource for our coaches and staff and he will be missed dearly. He was always so proud of his alma mater and wore that on his sleeve. He truly bled green and white."
His dedication and service to the athletic department led to his 2011 induction into the Manhattan College Athletic Hall of Fame.
Cullinane, a priest with the Brooklyn Archdiocese, served as confidant to many coaches and hundreds of players throughout the years. He was especially active with the track and field teams and the former Spiked Shoe Club. Cullinane often celebrated special Masses at the College and gathered with teams before games.

Some of you have already seen this but as I received it from Tom McCarthy just a short while ago, I wanted to share the sad news with you. Father Jack, a friend to many of us, loved and respected by all will be missed. His winning smile, generous being and his constant willingness to help and guide were hallmarks of this good man. He has been called home. We pray for the repose of his soul in the certain knowledge that he rests in peace in God's Eternal Embrace in the Kingdom of Heaven. Bill Baron is in his 50th year of coaching.
That's endurance, but what else would you expect from a former long-distance runner?
Baron won his first state championship in 1965 with the Ridgefield cross country team and his fifth in 2008, his 43rd season, with the East Catholic indoor track team.
At 72, he keeps going ... and learning, from attending conferences, studying new methods and reading books on running. He keeps teaching and winning.
"It is in your blood," Baron said recently. "I guess you could say I don't really feel like this is work. I'm still doing what I did when I was younger, and it is not tiring for me. This is what I do."
It is what his wife does, too.
Baron has been at East Catholic-Manchester since 2002 coaching with his wife, Marie, who began there in 1995. Baron is the boys coach and Marie is the girls coach, but both work with athletes from each side. Before East Catholic, Baron was at East Hartford for 34 years after leaving Ridgefield.

He was coming back after running at Manhattan College. And despite being just 26, he found success right away. Bob Moran was a sophomore when Baron took over and was part of Baron's first All-State relay team in 1970. He became one of the school's ...

When Baron arrived at Manhattan College, he was a distance runner. He didn't know much about the jumps or the hurdles, and certainly not the throwers. But that changed.
"Billy's roommate was a shot put/discus guy and Billy would write down everything this guy said," Moran said. "He had everything memorized. He knew he was going to be going to be a coach and he just sucked up everything the guy told him."
From the beginning, Baron has made an effort to attend conferences and clinics, learning the latest improvements to form and trends in coaching, like resistance training and heart rate monitoring.
"You just learn as much as you can, and then you can be lucky," Baron said.

Today, Quigley calls Florida home. At 95 years strong, he lives with his daughter, Cathy, who cares for him. Cancer and its treatment have slowed him down a little. Photos of Quigley in his pre-war college track glory days and his war medals hang in frames upon the living room wall.
The frame with his medals hangs in prominence on the entry wall. Quigley’s awards include the POW/MIA medal, the Silver Star, Bronze Star, Purple Heart, and the European and World War II Campaign medals, along with his Combat Infantryman’s Badge.
On the occasion of his interview he is decked out in his official Rolling Thunder, Florida Chapter 7, motorcycle club black leather vest adorned with the POW/MIA insignia and pins from some of his POW/MIA guest speaker journeys.

EAST ISLIP, N.Y. – Former Manhattan College track & field star and Athletic Hall of Fame member Pat Petersen has passed away following a brief battle with cancer. Still the school record-holder in two events (indoor 5000 meters, outdoor 10,000 meters), Petersen was inducted into the Manhattan College Athletic Hall of Fame in 2003.
Petersen posted a school-record time of 14:05.25 while winning the 5000 meters at the 1981 IC4A Indoor Championships, and he set the 10,000-meter school record with a 28:38.20 clocking at the 1982 Penn Relays. He also won the inaugural Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) cross country title in 1981 and twice qualified for the NCAA Cross Country Championships.
After graduating in 1982, Petersen enjoyed a successful career as a marathoner. He finished among the top four in the New York City Marathon three times from 1984-1987, including a third-place showing in 1985. Petersen also had three top 10 finishes at the London Marathon. His time of 2:10:04 at the 1989 London Marathon ranks 17th on the all-time U.S. list.
“Pat was a true gentleman and a Jasper through and through,” Assistant Coach Joe Ryan, Petersen’s teammate at Manhattan, said. “This is a tragic and shocking loss, and he will be missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family at this time.”
Along with his wife, Bea, Petersen founded the EJ Autism Foundation, a non-profit organization that supports programs and schools that work with autistic children on Long Island.
A wake will be held at the Frederick J. Chapey & Sons Funeral Home in East Islip, N.Y., from 2-4:30 p.m. and 7-9:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The funeral mass will take place at St. Mary’s R.C. Church in East Islip at 9:45 a.m. on Thursday.

"Big Frank" 73, resident of Tarpon Springs, passed away Saturday, May 30, 2015 at 3:30 pm in Tarpon Springs.
Frank was born in Yonkers, NY on September 6, 1941 to Pasquale and Carmel Francomano. He graduated with a BA in Spanish and Philosophy from Manhattan College in 1962, and pursued graduate study at Trinity College in Dublin, Ireland.
Frank worked in many different fields, including advertising, consulting, and teaching, but his true calling always drew him to engines, planes, cars, and boats.
Frank is survived by three children: Emily Francomano (Falls Church, VA), James Francomano (Belfast, Maine), and Nicholas Francomano (Los Angeles, CA); three sisters, Catherine Renza (Yarmouth Port, MA), Patricia Jasper (Los Angeles, CA) and Anne Marie Francomano (Rome, Italy); grandchildren Pablo (11) and Aria (7). He will be remembered by many friends.
A memorial service will be held at the Holiday United Church of Christ, 4826 Bartelt Rd. Holiday, 34190 at 7 pm on Thursday June 4. Reception to follow. John Zalud passed away on May 27, 2015, at home in Redlands, California. He leaves behind a sister, Virginia, his wife of sixty-two years, Marlyn, four children, eleven grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents and his brother, Alfred.
“The boy from East Elmhurst, New York" lived a full life of 88 years. John attended Bishop Loughlin High Memorial High School in Brooklyn, New York, and ran track, competing once in Madison Square Garden. During winter breaks, he worked in the Post Office, a time when mail was delivered twice a day. He joined the United States Navy during World War II and served in the Pacific War
aboard the USS Whitney (AD-4) as a quartermaster. After his discharge from the service, John graduated from Manhattan College in New York City. There he met the love of his life, Marlyn, at a Sunday tea dance. They were married in 1953 at Saint Patrick's Cathedral in the city.
Native New Yorkers, John and Marlyn lived in New York until 1966. During that time, John worked in
advertising — in market research at Colgate Palmolive, as Research Director at Benton & Bowles, and as Executive Vice President at Street & Finney. The Zaluds then moved to Nashville, Tennessee, quite the culture shock at the time. John was Executive Vice President at Noble-Dury & Associates in Nashville.
John was a life-long Notre Dame fan, passing up the opportunity to attend college there after returning home from the Navy. He moved his family to South Bend, IN, in 1975 to open a Captain D's franchise. Later on, John worked as the food director at Corby Hall, the priests’ residence on the Notre Dame campus. A source of great pride was that all four of his children graduated from the
University of Notre Dame. In 1984, the Zaluds moved to California, eventually settling in Redlands.
John loved his wife, his family, his faith, animals, the stock market, the Irish Brigade and Civil War history, good food, good beer and sports of any kind. Through his work in advertising, his children were able to visit Acapulco and the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe, fly to Hollywood, and meet Porter Wagoner, Dolly Parton, the Green Giant’s legs and the Pillsbury Dough Boy. John and Marlyn travelled to Alaska, England and Ireland among other places. As a husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and friend, he will be sorely missed.
A viewing for John will be held on Thursday, June 11, from 9:30 to 10:30 am at Emmerson Bartlett Memorial Chapel in Redlands, followed by a Mass at 11:00am at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church on Olive Street in Redlands. John's interment will follow the service at Riverside National Cemetery at 1:00pm.

Gerald J. Perry, 87, a longtime resident of Rose Valley who served two terms as the borough's mayor, died Thursday, May 28, of a stroke at Inova Fairfax Hospital in Falls Church, Va.
Mr. Perry settled in Rose Valley in 1969. He was elected to the borough council as a Republican and later served as council president in the 1990s. He went on to serve two terms as mayor in the 2000s. In 2012, he moved to Virginia to be near family.
His business background and commitment to building consensus helped him lead the council through a number of important changes. Under his tenure as mayor in 2008, for example, an environmental advisory council was established.
He valued public service, said son Steve: "He was never super-partisan; he was more of a problem-solver. He was all about getting things done, not about the background noise."
Before retiring in 1986, Mr. Perry had a 30-year career at Scott Paper Co., where he held a number of positions as a financial executive. He rose to vice president and comptroller of Scott's packaged products division.
Born in Kingston, N.Y., he was a graduate of Kingston High School. He graduated from Manhattan College in New York City in 1949.
He served in the Army during the Korean War and was honorably discharged with the rank of master staff sergeant.
He was an active member of St. John Chrysostom Catholic Church in Wallingford, where he was a lector and usher for many years. After moving to Springfield, Va., he joined the Greenspring Catholic Community, an extension of St. Bernadette's.
In addition to his son, Mr. Perry is survived by his wife of 60 years, Mary Ann; daughters Megan Lindsay and Linda Lorndale; six grandchildren; and a sister.
Services were Tuesday, June 2.

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Joseph M. Delisio, 68, of Oakwood and Port St. Lucie, Fla., a retired teacher who will be remembered for his great outlook on life, died Saturday in Hospice House, Fort Pierce, Fla.
Mr. Delisio was born in Stapleton and grew up in Grant City. He later lived in Oakwood for 30 years. In retirement he became a snowbird, wintering in Port St. Lucie, Fla.
A graduate of St. Peter's Boy's High School, he earned a bachelor's degree in education from Manhattan College, the Bronx, and received a master's degree in physical education from the former Richmond College, St. George.
Mr. Delisio taught at Dreyfus Intermediate School in Stapleton for 33 years, until retiring in 2003.
He was an avid New York Yankees and Jets fan, and also enjoyed playing golf.
A loving uncle to his many nieces and nephews, he enjoyed being with his extended family and he especially enjoyed sharing holiday meals with his loved ones.
Mr. Delisio was laid back and easygoing. His philosophy was, "Never complain about something you can't control," and "What's to be is to be," his family said.
He is survived by his brother, John, and his sister, Marianne Sciametta.
The funeral will be Friday from the Casey Funeral Home, Castleton Corners, with a mass at 10:15 a.m. in St. Charles Church. Burial will follow in Moravian Cemetery, New Dorp.

Donohue, president of the Catholic League for Religious and Civil Rights, said the gap-toothed funnyman has bashed Catholics for years on CBS' "The Late Show with David Letterman."

Say what you want about Bill Donohue, he calls them as he sees them.
Interesting to look at the celebrities and media tip toe around Muslim sensitivities but have no such concern about the Catholics, Jews, or Evangelicals.
Ditto around the LGBT as well.
And we wonder why America with all its advantages is rapidly following the Roman Empire?
It’s the lack of morals and common sense.
Pure and simple, we have left the past good things behind us in the search for something better.
And, what we find is that the “road to Hell is paved with good intentions”.
Graduates that can’t read. Prisons overflowing due the “(pseudo) War on (some) Drugs”. The politicians and bureaucrats as corrupt at unimaginable levels. “Money” is worthless. Families are rare. And, “marriage” — as a life long vow — almost unimaginable.
Sad to say, like the drunk, we have to hit bottom to begin to rebuild.
If such is possible.
