JFACEBOOK: Gong, Mike [MC2007] hurt in Mahopac hit and run

2015-Mar-01

Gong, Mike [MC2007]
Mahopac, NY

Some of you already heard but for those that haven't I was hit in a hit and run on route 6n near kobu and south side inn in Mahopac earlier today just after 11:15am. My vintage jeep got rear ended after I slowed down and came to a rolling stop to let pedestrians cross in the crosswalk. I currently have a bad case of whiplash but am ok for now, still a bit hazy though.

If you or anyone you know has information on the vehicle that hit me please contact the Carmel Police department at 845-628-1300 as they are wanted for fleeing the scene. Witnesses say it was a dark colored suv. I want thank our fire/police departments and emergency services for responding quickly, thank you thank you verrrrry much!!!

I would also appreciate recommendations for local auto body repair shops in the area if you have a few that deal with vintage cars. Thanks folks!

I am saddened to pass on the news that Bob Arco, a close friend of over 50 years, passed away suddenly after a heart attack in Florida this week. Bob, a native of Marble Hill began to hang around in Inwood with his close friend, the late Joe Conway, in his teens. It was in Inwood that he met his late wife, Gloria Vann.Bob was a Manhattan Prep and College graduate and Gloria was an SHM one.His quick wit, sardonic humor, and friendship will be missed.

Proven Success At College Level Means George Beamon Deserves Another NBA D-League Look
By Keith Schlosser
@KeithBSchlosser on Mar 4, 2015, 10:00a

*** begin quote ***

Drafted in the third round of the 2014 D-League Draft by the Oklahoma City Blue (affiliate of a quality NBA squad like the Thunder), one would have expected Beamon to take ownership of this new challenge under ideal guidance with an organization like that. Some may have expected him to thrive, even while adjusting to the pro game.

But with Marquis Teague and Semaj Christon in town as well, the opportunity to truly strut his stuff was hard to come by for Beamon. He appeared in just twelve games for the Blue before being waived by the team late last month. They've since (also) added Dwight Buycks and Frank Gaines to their already talented roster.

Alas, Beamon found himself to be the odd man out.

A PSA for everyone before the MAAC Tournament

*** begin quote ***

Since I started covering Manhattan College in 2012, I have become something of a regular presence at Draddy Gymnasium, and as a result, have gotten to know and become close to some great people over the years in Riverdale, one of whom is Christian Heimall.

*** and ***

Prior to Manhattan's game against Rutgers in the Holiday Festival on December 14 at Madison Square Garden, Christian had informed me that he had been diagnosed with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma the previous week. You never want to see anyone you know, much less someone close to you (AND younger than you, for that matter) go through something like this, and my first reaction was one of complete shock that I still feel even long after hearing of it. I wish this was all just a bad dream, but sadly, life doesn't work that way. The good news is that by his doctors detecting it early and ensuring a 95 percent survival rate, Christian is most likely going to beat this thing and be back in the broadcast booth on a permanent basis sooner rather than later. However, the bad news is that he has been very limited in his availability as he undergoes treatment to, as he so eloquently put it, #BootStompCancer.

I apologize for having digressed as long as I have, but this is where my absence from the site comes in. As Christian has been undergoing his medical treatments, I have been blessed, honored, and privileged to fill in for my good friend as the voice of Manhattan men's and women's basketball over the past two months. The circumstances are something neither myself, Christian, or anyone in the Manhattan athletic office would ever wish upon any of our worst enemies, but nonetheless, the show must indeed go on.

*** and ***

Get well soon, my friend.

ENDNOTE: The super obesity "opportunity"

Obese people to be treated at ZOO because hospital beds are too small
10:04, 7 February 2015
By Michael Adams

Prague zoo could build specialist unit with XXL equipment to treat overweight patients - but London Zoo says no to accepting human 'inmates'

*** begin quote ***

Stepan Svacina, a doctor at the General University Hospital in the Czech capital, told Czech newspaper Lidove noviny that certain procedures demanded bigger tools.

He said: "We have special weight scales for those people who are extremely overweight but we cannot do computer tomography or magnetic resonance imaging on them because they do not fit in the devices. Some of the obese patients have had to undergo these treatments in the local zoo."

Around 200,000 people suffer from morbid obesity in the Czech Republic - regularly ranked as one of the fattest nations in Europe - and some 80,000 people suffering from so-called super obesity.

*** end quote ***

Wow, 200k people in a population of 10M. Extrapolate that to the US. 2% of 320M is 6.4M.

Sounds like is an epidemic.

How many ebola patients were impacted in the USA and look what was spent on that?

Seems like if there was a “central planner”, then this would be on their list of “issues”.

Have to pray that there is a “cure”. If can’t be all “bad choices”. Can it?
