POSITRACTION: UNI-CUB Beta = a mobility aid

Honda's latest robotic stool is fun to ride, still impossible to buy
by Richard Lai

*** begin quote ***

One of the several reasons for why we love CEATEC is that we get to test ride human transporters there (as well as meeting robots of all sorts). Last year we came across Honda's stool-like UNI-CUB, and this year, the company is back with a new and improved model dubbed UNI-CUB Beta, and it even let attendees ride the vehicles -- while wearing Epson's smart glasses, no less -- around the show floor under staff supervision. It should be noted that the Beta was actually first unveiled at the Tokyo Motor Show last November, but that didn't kill our curiosity.

*** end quote ***

While you can’t buy it yet, it’s not hard to imagine how useful it will be to the old, infirm, or disabled. Or even to those folks who can’t drive or don’t have a car.

My cousin could use it to go to the supermarket which is too far to walk. Now she goes on the senior citizen bus.

Can’t come soon enough fmpov!

But I think we are forgetting to talk about Jeter as a person and what he means to our Manhattan College Community.

What’s the best way to find out what he means to our community? I simply asked around. I came to the conclusion that Jeter had an effect on everyone since a young age. Most Manhattan students can’t remember a time when the Captain wasn’t playing for the Yankees, considering he started his career in 1995. Obviously, our student body has grown up with Jeter and he has impacted their lives in some way. Regardless of where they were from, students had nice words to say about our captain.

My dad, Jay Moss, is a 91-year-old World War II vet. A sculptor, in relatively good shape, he’s still at it in his Riverdale apartment.

An opening of his first exhibit in about 13 years — Sculpture and Social Consciousness — will be at Manhattan College in Riverdale, this Wednesday evening (10/22) from 4 to 7 p.m. (It’s in the Alumni Room of the O’Malley Library, 1st floor, Room 100. Guards at the college entrance can send you in the right direction to park, walk, etc. Address is 4513 Manhattan College Parkway. Here’s a map.)

My dad’s work is not all, or directly, focused on war, but most of the art you’ll see is simply not what it would be if he missed the war age-wise or otherwise.

I love his work more than ever.

22SEP350.org estimates that 310,000 people took part in the People’s Climate March on Sunday to push desperately needed worldwide climate change action. Bronxites supplied a significant contingent. A reported 100 people from Riverdale’s Manhattan College took part, as did members of New Day Church in Bedford Park, La Finca del Sur, and South Bronx Unite, a coalition firmly focused on preventing Fresh Direct from moving its truck-heavy HQ to Mott Haven. (I’d love to know of any other Bronx groups, organizations, schools, clubs, etc. that took part in the Climate March. If you can send that info and a good photo to bronxmatters@gmail.com, I’ll do my best to get them up here. Thanks!)

2014-Oct-25

Good Morning All,

Holly, Joe Quinn's Sister has been in our prayers. We raised the volume when Holly went in for her second Open Heart Surgery in 13 months.

Joe writes, " In thanks and gratitude for all your prayers. The second surgery seems to have corrected all problems. Holly has no pain, no shortness of breath, nor is she exhausted." Joe tells me that Holly looks wonderful.

Thank you all for your prayers for Holly and her Family. A prayer of thanks is certainly in order.

Thank you. God Bless.

ENDNOTE: The “minimum wage” as “social justice”

2014-Oct-25

http://www.schiffradio.com/pg/jsp/verticals/archive.jsp?dispid=310&pid=66877

Diana Furchtgott-Roth of the Manhattan Institute's Economics21 discusses the economics of the fast-food protests and the minimum wage, as well as who was really behind all the demonstrations.

# - # - # - # - #

Readers here know I rant often about the “minimum wage”. Talk about “social justice” and “minority unemployment” is a bunch of astro-turf “barbara streisand”! (That’s my polite ways of saying <synonym for excrement from a large male cow>!!!)

Argh!

Take about 30 minutes and listen to Tom Woods — a little L libertarian economist — and this lady absolutely destroy the $15 dollar an hour crowd.

Maybe this is a hot button with me because I know victim of the Federal Gooferment’s first foray into the minimum wage. She now lives what I’d call “lonely poverty” on Social Security, a tiny pension, and handouts from her relatives. It’s sad.

She’s not smart. She didn’t in the late 60’s have other than a High School education. And the higher minimum wage made automation of low skill jobs cost effective.

Minority youth unemployment is absurd.

All to benefit the Big Labor, politicians, and bureaucrats. Argh!

This lady makes an excellent point that the Gooferment Skrules graduate functional illiterates.

As a society, even low skill folks have a “right” to the American Dream and a job is how they get it. Where to they start? On the bottom rung, the minimum wage job.

Argh!

Seems so obvious to me.
