POSITRACTION: UNI-CUB Beta = a mobility aid2014-Oct-10 http://www.engadget.com/2014/10/10/honda-uni-cub-beta-ceatec-2014/?ncid=rss_truncated Honda's latest robotic stool is fun to ride, still impossible to buy by Richard Lai *** begin quote *** One of the several reasons for why we love CEATEC is that we get to test ride human transporters there (as well as meeting robots of all sorts). Last year we came across Honda's stool-like UNI-CUB, and this year, the company is back with a new and improved model dubbed UNI-CUB Beta, and it even let attendees ride the vehicles -- while wearing Epson's smart glasses, no less -- around the show floor under staff supervision. It should be noted that the Beta was actually first unveiled at the Tokyo Motor Show last November, but that didn't kill our curiosity. *** end quote *** While you can’t buy it yet, it’s not hard to imagine how useful it will be to the old, infirm, or disabled. Or even to those folks who can’t drive or don’t have a car. My cousin could use it to go to the supermarket which is too far to walk. Now she goes on the senior citizen bus. Most Manhattan students can’t remember a time when the Captain wasn’t playing for the Yankees, considering he started his career in 1995. ENDNOTE: The “minimum wage” as “social justice”2014-Oct-25http://www.schiffradio.com/pg/jsp/verticals/archive.jsp?dispid=310&pid=66877 Diana Furchtgott-Roth of the Manhattan Institute's Economics21 discusses the economics of the fast-food protests and the minimum wage, as well as who was really behind all the demonstrations. # - # - # - # - # Readers here know I rant often about the “minimum wage”. Talk about “social justice” and “minority unemployment” is a bunch of astro-turf “barbara streisand”! (That’s my polite ways of saying <synonym for excrement from a large male cow>!!!) Argh! Take about 30 minutes and listen to Tom Woods — a little L libertarian economist — and this lady absolutely destroy the $15 dollar an hour crowd. Maybe this is a hot button with me because I know victim of the Federal Gooferment’s first foray into the minimum wage. She now lives what I’d call “lonely poverty” on Social Security, a tiny pension, and handouts from her relatives. It’s sad. She’s not smart. She didn’t in the late 60’s have other than a High School education. And the higher minimum wage made automation of low skill jobs cost effective. Minority youth unemployment is absurd. All to benefit the Big Labor, politicians, and bureaucrats. Argh! This lady makes an excellent point that the Gooferment Skrules graduate functional illiterates. As a society, even low skill folks have a “right” to the American Dream and a job is how they get it. Where to they start? On the bottom rung, the minimum wage job. Argh! Seems so obvious to me. # - # - # - # - # |
