JNEWS: Scaraggi, Tony [MC1986] VP Ops GSGNA

2014-Apr-06

News
Tony Scaraggi Named Vice President of GDF Suez Gas North America
by Everett News • April 5, 2014 •

Brings more than 25 Years of Business Experience to the Position

GDF SUEZ Gas North America (GSGNA), the owner and operator of the liquefied natural gas (LNG) receiving terminal in Everett, Massachusetts, announced today that it has named Tony Scaraggi as its new vice president of Operations in charge of overall management of the Everett LNG Terminal, effective March 21. The terminal has been importing and distributing liquefied natural gas (LNG) continuously since 1971.

Scaraggi has more than 25 years of experience in the natural gas business, including directing and developing LNG, gas utility and compressed natural gas-related efforts. Most recently, he was director of Operations, Maintenance, and Regulatory Affairs for Distrigas. Prior to joining Distrigas in January 2001 as the manager of Engineering, Scaraggi held the position of Principal Engineer at KeySpan Energy (now National Grid).

“During Tony’s 13 years with Distrigas, he has demonstrated a broad understanding of natural gas and LNG,” said Frank Katulak, president and CEO of GSGNA and former president and chief operating officer of Distrigas. He added,“Just as importantly, he has been key to Distrigas’s success in directing efforts focused on the terminal’s safe, secure and reliable operation. I have worked closely with Tony during that time and am confident of his ability to move the company forward as we continue to play a major role in New England’s energy landscape and tap new markets for LNG.”

Scaraggi holds a Bachelor of Engineering and a Master of Engineering in Chemical Engineering from Manhattan College and a Masters of Business Administration in Finance from Baruch College.

GSGNA is a subsidiary of GDF SUEZ Energy North America, which manages a range of energy businesses in the United States, Mexico and Canada. These businesses include electricity generation and cogeneration, natural gas and LNG distribution and sales, asset-based trading and origination, and retail energy sales and related services. The LNG-receiving terminal in Everett currently serves most of the natural gas utilities in New England and key power producers, helping to meet New England’s natural gas demand through both pipeline deliveries and an average of 10,000 truck deliveries of LNG each year. For more about the company, visit www.gdfsuezna.com.

JEMAIL: Yamaoka, Joseph (MC1956) has suggestion for Massiello situation

2014-Apr-06

Jasper John

I have a comment concerning the Steve Massiello situation.

I assume that Steve has completed 80-90 percent of the course requirements for a Kentucky degree and that most of those credits would be acceptable to MC. Perhaps MC could extend Steve's contract on condition that he completes his undergraduate degree at MC and agrees not to leave to coach another team until he completes the degree requirement.

Hoop Zone Hall of Fame: Naugatuck's Billy Rado
By JOE PALLADINO Republican-American

*** begin quote ***

NAUGATUCK -- Ask an old-time city basketball fan to name the best player he or she ever saw, and you hear the usual names: Finn, Johnson, Lott, Hanson. Ask that question to a Valley fan and the answer is different: Rado.

If we emerge from our citycentric view of basketball we might come to one conclusion: Billy Rado Jr. could be the best player ever in the Naugatuck Valley League.

In an era when Naugatuck basketball ruled the earth and the NVL, Rado was the star. The Greyhounds won 24 straight NVL games to win league titles in 1959 and 1960. Rado averaged 29 ppg in the 1959-60 season, the highest total in the NVL to that time.

"I never truly appreciated how good he was," said Billy's son, Keith Rado, who enjoyed his own All-NVL and All-State career at Naugatuck when his head coach was his dad. Billy was also a physical education teacher and athletic director at Naugatuck. "As time passed, and I talked to many people and other players, I began to understand."

After Naugatuck, Billy Rado went to Manhattan College. He averaged 30 ppg as a freshman and smashed the record book. That led to a scholarship offer from the University of Georgia, and an alteration of Bulldog's numbers.

*** and ***

Rado is 71 and lives in Boynton Beach, Fla. where, Keith said, he is still an active sportsman. Rado declined to speak with us for this story. That is understandable. Rado's name was seldom out of the newspaper in a stormy and controversial life.

NJ Discussing Smoking Ban At Beaches And Parks

Yes, I'm very concerned about smokers setting all that sand and those oceans on fire. Clearly a major problem. Perhaps we should transfer spending over from basic health care for poor people and rebuilding the slums in Camden and Newark to this effort? And then we can ban casinos -- an obvious source of impoverishment for our poor -- and cover the losses with a modest property tax hike for the state ... not much, maybe just 50% or so?

Will there be special provisions built into the law to make sure that smokers are especially targeted for litter? I wouldn't want to see some poor soul who's dumping some old tires, abandoned autos, fast food wrappings, newspapers etc, get hit with the same fines as someone who taps an ash off the end of their cigarette!

As for secondhand smoke -- definitely a concern, particularly right after cars are banned -- which is something we need to do YESTERDAY!

Yep, NJ can be a Garden State with a little bit of effort. Oh! One final note: we need to get rid of the unseen, odorless, but nonetheless unarguably deadly ethyl alcohol fumes -- a Class A Carcinogen the same as tobacco smoke -- from NJ restaurants!

JHQ: Allows Steve Masiello Return Coach After

http://manhattan.edu/news/manhattan-college-allow-steve-masiello-return-coaching-after-he-completes-undergraduate-degree

Manhattan College to Allow Steve Masiello To Return To Coaching After He Completes Undergraduate Degree

Manhattan College today announced it will reinstate Steve Masiello as its men’s head basketball coach, once he has completed his undergraduate degree from the University of Kentucky.

Manhattan College today announced it will reinstate Steve Masiello as its men’s head basketball coach, once he has completed his undergraduate degree from the University of Kentucky. He will be on unpaid leave until he receives his degree. During his absence, associate head coach Matt Grady will lead the program as interim head coach.

Mr. Masiello has been Manhattan College’s head men’s basketball coach since April 2011. Prior to that, he was an assistant coach at the University of Louisville from 2005-11. Mr. Masiello was an assistant coach at Manhattan College from 2001-05 and began his coaching career at Tulane University in 2000. The fact that he had not received his degree from the University of Kentucky came to light in a credentials check by the University of South Florida, with whom Mr. Masiello had agreed to accept employment as head basketball coach.

Brennan O’Donnell, president of Manhattan College, said: “After an extensive review of the situation and extenuating circumstances, we determined that Mr. Masiello executed poor judgment but did not intentionally misrepresent himself in applying to the College. After participating in graduation ceremonies at the University of Kentucky, he enrolled in summer courses with the intention of completing his degree, but never followed through to make sure that the degree was awarded. We appreciate the counsel of all involved in assessing this complex situation. Our policy was always that the coach must have at least a four-year undergraduate degree. We are confident that Mr. Masiello will be able to complete his degree this summer and return soon thereafter to resume his duties.”

“I am extremely grateful and humbled by the opportunity to continue as the head men’s basketball coach at Manhattan College,” Masiello said. “I made a mistake that could have cost me my job at an institution I love. Details matter. Manhattan College has shown me a great deal of compassion and trust during this process, and I will do everything in my power to uphold that trust. I understand that I am very fortunate to have the chance to remain here at Manhattan.”

JEMAIL: Stebbins, Donald M. (MC1961) forwards "refutation" story

Prominent Jesuit: Pope Francis’s first major issuance ‘almost a direct refutation’ of the GOP

Pope Francis’s first major publication can be read as an attack on the Republican philosophy of low taxes for the wealthy and reduced support of welfare programs, according to a prominent Jesuit professor.

During a panel discussion at Georgetown University last month, American Jesuit and Boston College professor David Hollenbach was asked how the faithful should engage with the poor in light of Pope Francis’s apostolic exhortation Evangelii Gaudium.

“I think there are multiple dimensions,” Hollenbach replied. “One of course is to find ways to help people who are members of the Church find a way to be in contact, become friends with those who are poor — an experiential dimension. That’s very important. But I don’t myself think that is going to solve the whole problem, because I don’t think it is going to be — as much as the document says it is the responsibility of every Christian to become friends with the poor, I don’t think it is actually likely to happen very much, or at least to happen as much as it’s needed.”

[JR: Well, when I was in Catholic school, we were taught that the Pope’s infallibility was limited to faith and morals. In the realm of economics, he’s just another “sinner”. Unfortunately, I don’t like the R’s any more than the D’s. It’s been demonstrated that “private charity” is more moral, effective, and efficient than any Gooferment program. The best example is LBJ’s famous “war” on “poverty” which has ruined the Black community and created generations of (white and black) poverty “farmers”. I’m writing my check to the Federal and State thieves this week. If my taxes were lower, I could and would donate more. Not to mention that I donate to charities that don’t “qualify” for tax breaks. I’d assert that the Gooferment is like a junkie and more money just makes bigger problems. For example, Obamacare spending hundreds of millions to enroll arguably a few million. We’d have been better off to send each uninsured a check to buy insurance. But that wouldn’t have enriched the politicians, bureaucrats, and crony capitalists. Sorry but that Papal “refutation” makes me crazy.]

ENDNOTE: Get a job

2014-Apr-12

FROM A EMAIL FROM A RELATIVE

*** begin quote ***

A TEXAS GIRL SOUNDS OFF AS ALL RESPONSIBLE FOLKS FEEL------------
"IF YOU CAN'T FIX IT
WITH A HAMMER,YOU'VE GOT AN ELECTRICAL
PROBLEM"

WRITTEN BY A 21 YEAR
OLD FEMALE. Wow, this girl has a great plan! Love the last
Thing she would do the best.

This was written
By a 21 yr. Old female who gets it. It's her future she's
Worried about and this is how she feels about the social
Welfare big government state that she's being forced to
Live in! These solutions are just common sense in her
Opinion.

This was in the Waco
Tribune Herald, Waco ,
TX

PUT ME IN CHARGE . .
.

Put me in charge
Of food stamps. I'd get rid
Of Lone Star cards; no cash for Ding Dongs or Ho Ho's,
Just money for 50-pound bags of rice and beans, blocks of
Cheese and all the powdered milk you can haul
Away. If you want steak and
Frozen pizza, then get a
Job.

Put me in charge of
Medicaid. The first
Thing I'd do is to get women Norplant birth control
Implants or tubal ligations. Then,
We'll test recipients for drugs, alcohol, and
Nicotine. If you want to
Reproduce or use drugs, alcohol, or smoke, then get a
Job.

Put me in charge
Of government housing. Ever
Live in a military barracks? You will maintain our
Property in a clean and good state of repair. Your "home"
Will be subject to inspections anytime and possessions
Will be inventoried. If you want a
Plasma TV or Xbox 360, then get a job and
Your own place.

In addition, you will
Either present a check stub from a job each week or you
Will report to a "government" job. It may be cleaning the
Roadways of trash, painting and repairing public housing,
Whatever we find for you. We will sell your
22-inch rims and low profile tires and your blasting
Stereo and speakers and put that money toward the "common
Good."

Before you write
That I've violated someone's rights, realize that all of
The above is voluntary. If
You want our money, accept our rules. Before you say
That this would be "demeaning" and ruin their "self
Esteem," consider that it wasn't that long ago that taking
Someone else's money for doing absolutely nothing was
Demeaning and lowered self
Esteem.

If we are expected
To pay for other people's mistakes we should at least
Attempt to make them learn from their bad
Choices. The current system
Rewards them for continuing to make bad
Choices.

I love this
One.

AND While you
Are on Gov't subsistence, you no longer can
VOTE! Yes, that is correct. For you to vote would be a
Conflict of interest. You will voluntarily
Remove yourself from voting while you are receiving a
Gov't welfare check. If you want to vote,
Then get a job.

Now, if you have
The guts - PASS IT ON...I WOULD REALLY LIKE TO GET THIS
BACK, IF EVERYONE SENDS IT, I WILL GET OVER 220 BACK!!! I
WOULD KNOW YOU SENT IT
ON!!!

*** end quote ***

I agree!
