He added,“Just as importantly, he has been key to Distrigas’s success in directing efforts focused on the terminal’s safe, secure and reliable operation. Ask that question to a Valley fan and the answer is different: Rado. If we emerge from our citycentric view of basketball we might come to one conclusion: Billy Rado Jr. could be the best player ever in the Naugatuck Valley League. In an era when Naugatuck basketball ruled the earth and the NVL, Rado was the star. The Greyhounds won 24 straight NVL games to win league titles in 1959 and 1960. Rado averaged 29 ppg in the 1959-60 season, the highest total in the NVL to that time. "I never truly appreciated how good he was," said Billy's son, Keith Rado, who enjoyed his own All-NVL and All-State career at Naugatuck when his head coach was his dad. Billy was also a physical education teacher and athletic director at Naugatuck. "As time passed, and I talked to many people and other players, I began to understand." After Naugatuck, Billy Rado went to Manhattan College. He averaged 30 ppg as a freshman and smashed the record book. That led to a scholarship offer from the University of Georgia, and an alteration of Bulldog's numbers. *** and *** Rado is 71 and lives in Boynton Beach, Fla. where, Keith said, he is still an active sportsman. McFadden · Following · Top Commenter · Manhattan College Yes, I'm very concerned about smokers setting all that sand and those oceans on fire. Clearly a major problem. Perhaps we should transfer spending over from basic health care for poor people and rebuilding the slums in Camden and Newark to this effort? And then we can ban casinos -- an obvious source of impoverishment for our poor -- and cover the losses with a modest property tax hike for the state ... not much, maybe just 50% or so? Will there be special provisions built into the law to make sure that smokers are especially targeted for litter? I wouldn't want to see some poor soul who's dumping some old tires, abandoned autos, fast food wrappings, newspapers etc, get hit with the same fines as someone who taps an ash off the end of their cigarette! As for secondhand smoke -- definitely a concern, particularly right after cars are banned -- which is something we need to do YESTERDAY! Yep, NJ can be a Garden State with a little bit of effort. Oh! One final note: we need to get rid of the unseen, odorless, but nonetheless unarguably deadly ethyl alcohol fumes -- a Class A Carcinogen the same as tobacco smoke -- from NJ restaurants! Michael J. Manhattan College today announced it will reinstate Steve Masiello as its men’s head basketball coach, once he has completed his undergraduate degree from the University of Kentucky. He will be on unpaid leave until he receives his degree. During his absence, associate head coach Matt Grady will lead the program as interim head coach. Mr. Masiello has been Manhattan College’s head men’s basketball coach since April 2011. Prior to that, he was an assistant coach at the University of Louisville from 2005-11. Mr. Masiello was an assistant coach at Manhattan College from 2001-05 and began his coaching career at Tulane University in 2000. The fact that he had not received his degree from the University of Kentucky came to light in a credentials check by the University of South Florida, with whom Mr. Masiello had agreed to accept employment as head basketball coach. Brennan O’Donnell, president of Manhattan College, said: “After an extensive review of the situation and extenuating circumstances, we determined that Mr. Masiello executed poor judgment but did not intentionally misrepresent himself in applying to the College. After participating in graduation ceremonies at the University of Kentucky, he enrolled in summer courses with the intention of completing his degree, but never followed through to make sure that the degree was awarded. We appreciate the counsel of all involved in assessing this complex situation. Our policy was always that the coach must have at least a four-year undergraduate degree. We are confident that Mr. Masiello will be able to complete his degree this summer and return soon thereafter to resume his duties.” “I am extremely grateful and humbled by the opportunity to continue as the head men’s basketball coach at Manhattan College,” Masiello said. “I made a mistake that could have cost me my job at an institution I love. Details matter. Manhattan College has shown me a great deal of compassion and trust during this process, and I will do everything in my power to uphold that trust. I understand that I am very fortunate to have the chance to remain here at Manhattan.” Posted on April 07, 2014 # - # - # - # - # [JR: TIP ‘o’ the HAT to: Stella Montalvo, Stella [MC2012] for posting it to Facebook!] # - # - # - # - # 2014-Apr-07 @ 18:26 |

During a panel discussion at Georgetown University last month, American Jesuit and Boston College professor David Hollenbach was asked how the faithful should engage with the poor in light of Pope Francis’s apostolic exhortation Evangelii Gaudium. “I think there are multiple dimensions,” Hollenbach replied. “One of course is to find ways to help people who are members of the Church find a way to be in contact, become friends with those who are poor — an experiential dimension. That’s very important. But I don’t myself think that is going to solve the whole problem, because I don’t think it is going to be — as much as the document says it is the responsibility of every Christian to become friends with the poor, I don’t think it is actually likely to happen very much, or at least to happen as much as it’s needed.” *** end quote *** Stebbins, Donald M. In the realm of economics, he’s just another “sinner”. Unfortunately, I don’t like the R’s any more than the D’s. It’s been demonstrated that “private charity” is more moral, effective, and efficient than any Gooferment program. The best example is LBJ’s famous “war” on “poverty” which has ruined the Black community and created generations of (white and black) poverty “farmers”. I’m writing my check to the Federal and State thieves this week. If my taxes were lower, I could and would donate more. Not to mention that I donate to charities that don’t “qualify” for tax breaks. I’d assert that the Gooferment is like a junkie and more money just makes bigger problems. For example, Obamacare spending hundreds of millions to enroll arguably a few million. We’d have been better off to send each uninsured a check to buy insurance. But that wouldn’t have enriched the politicians, bureaucrats, and crony capitalists. Sorry but that Papal “refutation” makes me crazy.] # - # - # - # - # 2014-Apr-10 @ 16:53 |

ENDNOTE: Get a job2014-Apr-12FROM A EMAIL FROM A RELATIVE *** begin quote *** A TEXAS GIRL SOUNDS OFF AS ALL RESPONSIBLE FOLKS FEEL------------ "IF YOU CAN'T FIX IT WITH A HAMMER,YOU'VE GOT AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM" WRITTEN BY A 21 YEAR OLD FEMALE. Wow, this girl has a great plan! Love the last Thing she would do the best. This was written By a 21 yr. Old female who gets it. It's her future she's Worried about and this is how she feels about the social Welfare big government state that she's being forced to Live in! These solutions are just common sense in her Opinion. This was in the Waco Tribune Herald, Waco , TX PUT ME IN CHARGE . . . Put me in charge Of food stamps. I'd get rid Of Lone Star cards; no cash for Ding Dongs or Ho Ho's, Just money for 50-pound bags of rice and beans, blocks of Cheese and all the powdered milk you can haul Away. If you want steak and Frozen pizza, then get a Job. Put me in charge of Medicaid. The first Thing I'd do is to get women Norplant birth control Implants or tubal ligations. Then, We'll test recipients for drugs, alcohol, and Nicotine. If you want to Reproduce or use drugs, alcohol, or smoke, then get a Job. Put me in charge Of government housing. Ever Live in a military barracks? You will maintain our Property in a clean and good state of repair. Your "home" Will be subject to inspections anytime and possessions Will be inventoried. If you want a Plasma TV or Xbox 360, then get a job and Your own place. In addition, you will Either present a check stub from a job each week or you Will report to a "government" job. It may be cleaning the Roadways of trash, painting and repairing public housing, Whatever we find for you. We will sell your 22-inch rims and low profile tires and your blasting Stereo and speakers and put that money toward the "common Good." Before you write That I've violated someone's rights, realize that all of The above is voluntary. If You want our money, accept our rules. Before you say That this would be "demeaning" and ruin their "self Esteem," consider that it wasn't that long ago that taking Someone else's money for doing absolutely nothing was Demeaning and lowered self Esteem. If we are expected To pay for other people's mistakes we should at least Attempt to make them learn from their bad Choices. The current system Rewards them for continuing to make bad Choices. I love this One. AND While you Are on Gov't subsistence, you no longer can VOTE! Yes, that is correct. For you to vote would be a Conflict of interest. You will voluntarily Remove yourself from voting while you are receiving a Gov't welfare check. If you want to vote, Then get a job. Now, if you have The guts - PASS IT ON...I WOULD REALLY LIKE TO GET THIS BACK, IF EVERYONE SENDS IT, I WILL GET OVER 220 BACK!!! I WOULD KNOW YOU SENT IT ON!!! *** end quote *** I agree! # - # - # - # - # |
