You don’t buy “car insurance” that way. Nor “homeowners”, “rental”, “flood”, “umbrella”, “flood”, “catastrophic”, “business”, “liability”, “directors”, “prize”, … … did I miss any? Why is that? Gooferment World War Two wage and price controls. Business, blocked from paying the wages need to attract the skills needed, came up with this scam to solve the problem. In what reality, does losing your job and losing your health care make sense. Tax-wise for the employee it’s even a bigger joke. The employer can deduct it, but if you buy your own you can’t. So the anecdotal case is setup by Gooferment stupidity and the author argues for more Gooferment stupidity to “fix” it. Second, let’s look at the anecdotal case advanced as the argument for more Gooferment stupidity. Smoker, who relied on his employer for “health insurance”, when forced to get his own, does NOT. Note now the story ADMITS he took a chance when he could find it AT A PRICE HE WAS WILLING TO PAY. Very cagy use of the word “affordable”! So did try to mitigate his risks? Stop smoking, go for regular care, … what were his habits and choices when he had the insurance from his employer. NOW, I feel sad that he took a chance and it came up snake eyes for him. The bright spot — according to the article — is he has NOW transferred the costs of his choices to the taxpayers. And, everyone gets worse “health”, “health care”, “health care insurance”, or something else to adopt this socialist meme. Sorry, but this article is an indictment of Gooferment! Further, I can NOT imagine if he showed up at Sacred Heart Medical Center in Eugene Oregon, that he would not have been cared for promptly and efficiently. (Yeah, I spent the first few years of my life in Oregon!) All hospitals have a “charity care” account. So, the President, the politicians, and bureaucrats have lied through their smiles to get us on the path to be a European Socialist nation. Cassidy (1949 - 2013) Obituary Austin Francis Cassidy passed away after a long term struggle with cancer on November 1, at Rosary Hill Home. He was 64 years old. Austin was born October 4, 1949, in the Bronx, to the late Theresa Walsh Cassidy and Edward Cassidy. He was educated at St. Francis of Assisi Elementary school, Mt. Kisco and graduated from Archbishop Stepinac High School, White Plains. He received a BA in psychology from Manhattan College and an MS in Forensic Science from Yale University. Austin was well known in Westchester as an arson investigator. He worked for many years for the village of Mt. Kisco, where his positions included fire inspector, code enforcer, assistant building inspector and lastly Building Inspector. In May his illness forced his early retirement. Austin had a myriad of interest; photography, expert marksmanship, and a love of nature, which included hiking, animals, travel, painting and art. He exhibited his art in the New York area and in Cape Cod Mass. He had many published articles in Cape Cod, focusing on history, many places of interest and how to get the most out of a Cape Cod visit. He organized photography tours in Cape Cod. He was an integral part of the "Art's on the Lake", in Kent, NY. Austin was also well known for his community service. In the 1970's he volunteered as a special police officer with the Mt. Kisco police department. During the early to mid 1980's he served as fire chief with the Mt Kisco Union Hook and Ladder Co. Survivors include his wife Marsha Jayko , of Mt. Kisco, his daughter Tara Cassidy of Hopewell Junction and grandchildren , Christina and Michael Dzubak. His brother Brendan and Janet Cassidy of Norristown, PA., two stepchildren, Aimee Nyarady of Ridgefield, CT., Alexander Jayko of Rye, NY., and step granddaughter Lily Nyarady of Ridgefield, CT., two goddaughters Diedre Siegel and Megan Schreck, many cousins , close friends from childhood, especially Jack Wade who also was there through Austin's challenge. Visitation will be Sunday 7-9PM and Monday 5-9Pm at the Cassidy Flynn funeral home. Funeral Mass Tuesday 10am., St. Francis of Assisi Church, Mt. JBLOGGER: Nicole [MC2013] unemployed2013-Nov-07http://nikitasays.com/2013/09/13/anticipating-autumn-and-an-announcement/ Anticipating Autumn (and an announcement!) *** begin quote *** Alright, I’ll stop beating around the bush. I visited my alma mater this past Tuesday and I miss college. I just do. I miss the campus, I miss being around my peers and professors, I miss my underclassmen friends, and I miss going someplace and having work to do everyday. In short, college gave my life structure and…purpose. I hate saying “purpose,” because my purpose in life is not to work in and of itself. I think you get the idea, though. Today I had my first job interview since I graduated from college. Despite the staffing agencies, the online applications, and my use of job websites like Monster, this interview came about purely from in-person networking. My mom spoke with somebody who was related to someone else and that person interviewed me today. The interview actually went very well–but unfortunately, the company is a non-profit and it does not have any positions open at this time. I am still grateful that I had the experience, though. Next week I plan on taking the 911-operator test. I never thought of myself as someone who could listen on the other end of a person’s emergency phone call, but it’s a city job and it has benefits. And I’m running out of ideas, to be honest. In the meantime, I’ll keep going down the list of companies and I’ll continue applying. And praying. And wishing. And hoping. I might go back to the whole follow-up phone call thing, but chances are people won’t be very receptive. That’s what I’ve been experiencing lately–Human Resources does not want to hear your voice. You’re just another applicant to them. The squeaky wheel does not get the oil anymore. Wait, this post is supposed to be about Autumn. Okay, announcement time! Since I’m still unemployed, and I want to exercise my abilities as a writer and try new things, and since certain sections of this blog have been largely ignored, I will now implement a blogging schedule (*trumpet blast and confetti*)! Now, just to be clear, there’s no bondage here. I’ve seen what stretching for content has done to other bloggers, and I don’t want that to happen to this blog (or to me). However, from now on, the schedule is as follows: Sunday is Soul Sunday. This could potentially be a free day. You can’t force inspirational writing. If God lays something on my heart to write about, or if I learn a life lesson during the week, or if I feel like reflecting on something from the past and incorporating Bible verses, it will be posted on this day. Monday is Music Monday. I love listening to music (who doesn’t?) and I’d like to share that love with you. Feel free to follow me on Spotify–I will follow back. Wednesday is Web Wednesday. I will also use this as a free day if I have nothing on the internet to pundit about. I’m unsure if I’ll incorporate commentary about viral videos/memes here. That’s opening a whole other can of worms. Thursday is Random Thursday. I’m specifically devoting this day to the “random” section of my blog, and I will be taking requests. When I say random, I mean random–frisbees, rubber ducks, the solar system–that kind of thing. Rubber duckie, you’re the one… Friday is Film Friday. Some of you might have seen the film blog I had during my college days. That blog was made specifically for the film classes I was taking. However, I would still love to talk about film here! I’d be a little less wordy, of course. Saturday is Style Saturday. I’m going to mix it up by not just doing outfit of the day type stuff. I might talk about trends, or put an outfit together on Polyvore and post it here, or talk about one particular piece of clothing and how to wear it multiple ways. We’ll see! So that leaves out one category…life. The reason I did this is because I can spontaneously post about life at any point during the week. It’s…life. The start of the Russian Revolution. The one between the White Bolsheviks and the Red one’s. A fellow by the name of Kerensky was a White Bolshevik and the first Presinet of free Russia following the Czar’s dethroning. Philosophical differences arose. Lenin was head of the Red group. Finally, the Reds beat the Whites. That is the war that started on this day in 1918. Kerensky had to flee Russia. Flee or be killed. The choice was simple. He left. He eventually ended up in the United States. Why the Russian history lesson? I was fortunate to have known Kerensky. It was 1956-7. I was a senior at Manhattan College. A history major. One of my courses was Russian history from around 1880 to a couple of years following the Revolution. Kerensky taught the course. He was my/our professor. Roldan, 82, of Atkinson, died on Thursday, November 7, 2013 at the Pleasant Valley Nursing Center in Derry. Born in New York City, son of the late Joseph and Herminia (Parilla) Roldan, he attended Manhattan College. He served in the United States Army for four years in the National Army Security Agency before moving to Illinois and then Atkinson in 1966. Mr. Roldan worked for Western Electric as an engineer for twenty-seven years before retiring from AT&T Technologies. He loved tennis, golf, bowling, and dancing and enjoyed going on cruises and wintering in Florida. He was an active member of Holy Angels Church of St. Luke the Evangelist Parish. He is survived by his loving wife of fifty-seven years, Elba (Quinones) Roldan, his three sons, James J. Roldan of East Hampstead, Robert A. Roldan of Somerville, MA, and Thomas J. Roldan of San Antonio, TX, his daughter, Jeanne M. Young of Manchester, NH, his sister, Nancy Carrington of Chicago, IL, six grandchildren, two great granddaughters, and two nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Edward Roldan. John died today in Richmond, Virginia. JEMAIL: Colon, Philip J. (MC1962) about remembers Vets' day2013-Nov-09Good Morning All, Monday, as we all know, is Veterans day. We owe so much to those who Serve, have Served and those who paid the ultimate price. This morning I came across something that Abraham Lincoln said, " In the end it's not the years in your life that count. It's the life in your years." Our Veterans through the years have signed that blank check to all of us to defend and protect. Life for our Servicemen and Women can be fulfilling, you forge bonds that you will never let friend or foe break, it can be lonely, it is sometimes daunting and terrifying. Scars may fade but don't go away, memories pale a little but never disappear. Our Veterans are truly heroes, they go in harms way, at the least they stand steadfast in their willingness to do so. They so often define what the United States stands for and are that beacon of liberty that we read about. ENDNOTE: Keshia Thomas demonstrates what "free speech" is all about2013-Nov-09Mike Huckabee on FACEBOOK: *** begin quote *** A salute this evening to a true Huck’s Hero, Keshia Thomas. The BBC reports that she was just 18 back in 1996, and taking part in an anti-KKK rally in Ann Arbor, Michigan. The crowd spotted a white man in a Confederate flag shirt and started yelling, “Kill the Nazi!” They knocked him to the ground and began beating him. Keshia said it was barbaric. She knew what it was like to be attacked. So this black teenager threw herself over the alleged racist, shielding him from harm and shaming his attackers into backing off. Since then, the photo of her protecting him has inspired a lot of people to be kinder. The BBC tracked Keshia to Houston, where she now lives. She says she never saw that man again, but his son came to her once and thanked her. She still tries to do something to break down racial stereotypes every day. No grand gestures. She said sometime, "The biggest thing you can do is just be kind to another human being.” Keshia, sometimes that little act of kindness can be the grandest gesture of all. *** end quote *** When we say: “I hate what you say, but will defend with my life your right to say it”, we really have to mean it. You want to claim this land as the land of the free? Then the symbol of your country can't just be a flag; the symbol also has to be one of its citizens exercising his right to burn that flag in protest. Show me that, defend that, celebrate that in your classrooms.
