Calif teen rescues 11-year-old girl from ocean

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — Christian Lozano was sitting on a Ventura beach last week when he saw a head poking up from the waves. He soon heard a cry for help and knew what he had to do.

Lozano ran into the heavy surf, grabbed the 11-year-old girl and the pair made it to shore safely after a few harrowing moments.

The 16-year-old Young Marine is being hailed a hero by Maya Harding's family who wanted to express their thanks for what he did.

"Greater love hath no man."

Next to returning found cash, I think this demonstrates the inherent goodness of people.

Hard to imagine doing this. Risking your life, your only real thing you have, for a stranger.

Common to all these stories is reacting almost without thinking.

The press is failing America

*** begin quote ***

July 19, 2013

I am afraid what the Main Stream Press is doing should frighten each and every American. The Press has a primary responsibility to tell the truth and inform the American public in a timely manner. Unfortunately this is not happening. The Press is selecting which story to tell and when. Please understand I am not talking about Opinion shows that pay their hosts to explain the news in whatever slant either Liberal or Conservative. I am talking about hard news shows. The examples I am about to give are the way these stations create or ignore news as it fits their agenda. It has everything to do with the Press not following their responsibility to inform in a timely manner and to tell the truth regardless who it affects.

*** and ***

William (Bill) Moore was born and raised in Yonkers NY. He became a Social Studies Teacher in Yonkers and eventually an Assistant Principal at the Middle School and High School levels. He was Principal at Roosevelt HS for 5 years in Yonkers before deciding to relocate to Edenton, NC. There he was Principal of John A. Holmes HS for 4 years. He holds a Bachelor's Degree in Social Studies from Fordham University and Master's Degree from Iona College, majoring in Social Studies. He received his second Master's Degree in School Administration from Manhattan College. Bill is also a retired Lieutenant Colonel from the US Army Reserve. He is trained as an Armor officer and a Logistician. He served two years active duty in the 4th of the 68th Armor, part of the 82nd Airborne Division. In the Reserves he served as a Field Service Company Commander, Transportation Battalion Commander and numerous staff positions at all levels. Karen Maria Fegan, Former Teacher of the Year
By James O'Toole on Sat, 07/20/2013 - 16:57 Obituaries

Karen Maria Fegan, a longtime resident of New Rochelle, died on July 20, 2013, due to complications from pancreatic cancer. She was 61.

Karen was born in New Rochelle on September 23, 1951, the daughter of Alma (Stone) Sich and the late John Sich. She grew up in New Rochelle and attended local public schools, graduating from New Rochelle High School in 1969. She received her undergraduate degree in Physical Education from Ithaca College in 1973, and her Masters in Special Education from Manhattan College in 1975.

Karen always had a great love for children, and she followed her father’s footsteps and went into the field of Physical Education. Following one year at Mt. Vernon HS, she spent the next 32.5 years in the Port Chester School System, primarily at Thomas A. Edison Elementary, until her retirement in 2007. Her former principal had always said that Karen was the “heart and soul” of Edison School. She was honored as District Elementary Teacher of Year in 2002.

Following her retirement, Karen enjoyed spending time with her family and friends …at the beach, the ballpark, the golf course with her beloved husband Tom, as well as an occasional trip to AC and the Seaview Marriott in New Jersey. There was nothing more important than family to her, and she remained totally devoted to them. Karen was kind, funny, generous, and a real go-getter when she set her mind to something. She especially loved buying outfits for newborns of friends, work associates, nieces and nephews…and dishes, dishes, and more dishes for every imaginable holiday and special occasion.

Karen is survived by her mother, Alma Stone Sich; her sister Paula Martinez, her brother John (Jack) Sich; her loving husband Tom, her daughter Kelly, her sons Kevin and Sean, daughter –in- law Susan; nieces Leah (Brian), Courtney (Sven) and nephews Brian (Michelle), Stephen (Katie) , and Matthew.

Visiting will be Sunday 7-9pm and Monday 5-9pm at Lloyd Maxcy & Sons Beauchamp Chapel, 16 Shea Pl, New Rochelle. A Mass is scheduled Tuesday 10:30 am at Blessed Church. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Karen’s name to any of the following charities: Edison Angels, Butterflies from Jodie, New Rochelle Little League, or the Lustgarten Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research

The Cause of the Civil War: Historian Thomas Fleming Discovers the “Yankee Problem in America”
By Thomas J. DiLorenzo
July 13, 2013

*** begin quote ***

In his final chapter Thomas Fleming writes about Oliver Wendell Holmes, who was an officer in Lincoln’s army who was wounded in battle.  After the war, “For seventy years, he repeatedly condemned the abolitionists and others who claimed they had a message from some higher power that everyone had to obey.  Above all he voiced his contempt for people whose claim to certitude often persuaded other men to kill each other.”  If this sounds familiar, it is because it has been the guiding principle of American foreign policy ever since 1865.

*** end quote ***

Lincoln was my choice as "worst President".

Interesting that everyone else in the world could "eliminate slavery" without killing and fundamental changing the civic ethic.

The rationale that the "frenzy to bloodshed" is reappearing with intrusion into the Middle East.
