POSITRACTION: Before the U.S. Supreme Court by pro-life advocates

WND EXCLUSIVE
PROTESTERS CHALLENGE BAN ON TRUTH ABOUT 'CHOICE'
Supremes asked to restore speech rights to pro-lifers

*** begin quote ***

A Colorado court’s decision that revealing the truth about abortion – through images of the results of the violent procedures – can be banned is being challenged before the U.S. Supreme Court by pro-life advocates who charge that such content-based restrictions are unconstitutional.

The case is being presented to the high court by officials with the Thomas More Society, who have engaged Professor Eugene Volokh of UCLA’s law school, a widely acclaimed, prolific First Amendment legal scholar and author, to take the lead.

Volokh, who blogs at the Volokh Conspiracy, drafted the petition for certiorari which was filed with the U.S. Supreme Court this week.

*** end quote ***

It's a shame we only hear of these valiant warriors in the alternative media.

I've sent them a couple of bucks from time to time.

But, does that do enough?

As a little L libertarian, I don't want the Gooferment with its heavy handed one size fits all diktats forcing people to do or not do anything. That includes restricting "free speech" because the truth is unpleasant.

Abortion should make people sick.

It should be the rarest of procedures. For the life of the mother. Really, not some fakey diagnosis. Rape and incest. Hard choices for any women without my help or the thugs pretending to "The Government". Certainly not as an alternative to birth control.

I would hope that by the beauty and logic of our arguments we can sway people to "choose life".

One way is to make it not clean and impersonal, but messy and gory and as repulsive an act as ever a man could do to a woman. (Most docs are men!)

Today's Mario Day. March 10. MAR10 get it. And I know a young Mario. I can't imagine the world without him. I don't know how he will turn out, but he's got a right to life. He had an older sister who he never knew. She "failed to thrive". But she had every chance. I don't know how she would have turned out. But I saw the pain of her loss in all my loved ones.

I keep coming back to the same point. We know so much but understand too little. Supposed one of these aborted babies was "scheduled" to cure cancer, bring world peace, or compose beautiful music. And, that has been lost forever. Like when you played the original Adventure computer game, if you killed the bird, then you could never get by the snake. (It's a computer geek axiom, "don't kill the bird", meaning you don't know what you may need later.)

So I'll say prayer that this case goes "Life's way". And, I'll be more alert to help the cause in the future.

Hi John
Thanks for posting Charlie Sie's (Class of '57) obituary. Charlie was my manager's manager at Xerox for a number of years in the 80's and a good friend as well, initiated by being fellow Manhattan alumni. He was instrumental in furthering my career and had a great sense of humor as well as a tremendous drive to make our department successful. I remember him fondly - we last met during Manhattan's president's visit to Southern California a few years ago,

Workbridge New York Visits Manhattan College
3/4/13 by New York

Recently, Workbridge New York's open-source development team took a trip to Manhattan Collge to speak with a few members of their business college, honors society as well as a few computer science majors. It was a lot of fun getting a chance to speak with the students about Workbridge Associates and the technology market in New York, and we hope the students were able to take something away from it.

Our Vice President of Sales and Recruiting, Drew Sussberg, along with lead recruiter, Gary Goldstein and recruiters, Michael Yurcisin (Manhattan College Alum), Melissa Gallagher, Andrew Kolkhorst and Thomas McCormick had a great time interacting with the students and helping to give a vivid picture of what our company is like and our purpose in the NYC tech community.
We would like to thank Manhattan College and everyone that attended the event for having us and being so hospitable. We look forward to visiting again in the near future!

Manhattan College Presents Lecture Series and Library Exhibit Marking 50th Anniversary of Pacem in Terris
Riverdale, NY (PRWEB) March 07, 2013

On April 11, 1963, Pope John XXIII published an encyclical titled Pacem in Terris, or Peace on Earth, during the escalation of the Cold War. The now-landmark text, released just two months before the popes death, was directed not only to Catholics but also to all men of good will. With it, he urged government leaders to address political differences through negotiation, not arms, placing heavy emphasis on international human rights. The encyclical spawned the creation of Manhattan Colleges interdisciplinary Peace Studies program, still popular among students.

Manhattan College is marking the 50th anniversary of Pacem in Terris with a series of lectures, capped off by an archival exhibit showcasing the links between the encyclical and the Peace Studies program.

The quest for peace is never ending, and we hope this semesters events will remind students, faculty, staff and members of the community of the importance of working together for a better world, said Thomas Ferguson, Ph.D., associate professor of religious studies and director of the Peace Studies program.

MANHATTAN COLLEGE PRESIDENT SELECTED AS FEATURED SPEAKER AT THE WESTCHESTER FRIENDLY SONS OF ST. PATRICK ANNUAL DINNER
Irish society will hold annual black-tie dinner on March 14

Brennan O’Donnell, Ph.D., president of Manhattan College and a Yonkers resident, will be the featured speaker at the anniversary dinner of the Westchester chapter of the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick. The dinner will be hosted by the Hilton Westchester in Rye Brook, N.Y., on March 14.

O’Donnell will be flanked on the dais by two Manhattan College alumni: James Landy ’76, chairman of the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick of Westchester, and Matthew McCrosson ’72, chapter president.

“It is an honor to address the Westchester Friendly Sons, an organization that does a great deal of good in the community, and in which many prominent Jaspers have served in leadership positions,” O’Donnell said. “Manhattan's history is closely intertwined with the story of Irish-Americans in the greater New York region, and I am proud to be in a position to help celebrate that story.”

O’Donnell’s talk will focus on Manhattan College as a gateway of opportunity for immigrants, starting with the Irish and continuing with other first- and second-generation students today.

“Brennan O’Donnell has completely put his arms around his Irish heritage,” said McCrosson. “He’s been recognized as a leading Irish-American educator, he’s marched the last several years in the St. Patrick’s Day parade, and he’s just a great Irishman."

In December 2011, O’Donnell was recognized as one of the top figures in education with an Irish heritage by the Irish Voice newspaper. During this year’s New York City St. Patrick’s Day Parade on Fifth Avenue, O’Donnell will march alongside Manhattan College’s Gaelic Society, Pipes and Drums Band and several alumni and students.

The Friendly Sons of St. Patrick was formed in 1771, in Philadelphia, by two-dozen men of Irish descent, dedicated to the cause of liberty. New York State Senator William F. Condon established the society’s Westchester chapter in 1954. The group remains a charitable and faith-based society, and a portion of the proceeds from the March 14 dinner will go to the Elizabeth Seton Pediatric Center in Yonkers.

More than 600 guests are expected to attend the dinner, which will begin at approximately 8 p.m. A cocktail reception will be held at 6:30 p.m.

Media interested in attending the dinner should contact John Tucker at (718) 862-7232 orjohn.tucker@manhattan.edu.

It’s also a story about friendship, faith and fate. It has an unlikely beginning, but a very definite end. And for sure it’s a good ending.

It concerns a ring lost in 1949 but very quickly found, safely secured, but only last weekend restored to its rightful owner, Arthur V. Gallagher, at the annual Power Memorial Academy Alumni Association Mass of Remembrance in New York.

Gallagher’s ring was a 1949 Class Ring for the famed school, which no longer exists, but whose alumni march annually in the New York St. Patrick’s Day Parade.

After graduating Power in 1949, Arthur Gallagher attended Manhattan College. While at college, he signed up for a Marine Corps Platoon Leader program for college students in 1952. He went to Parris Island for his training and lost his Power ring while there. At the time, most of the instructors were combat vets from Korea.

Yes! Arty is a member of the Class of 1954. I knew him when we were both is school. As I recall, he drove an old Ford 4 door convertable!

PRAYERSREQUESTED: Colon, Philip J. (MC1962) reports results on a recovery

Good Afternoon All,

Owen Mckeon has updated us with some good news regarding their Niece, Lisa, who has been in our prayers. Lisa has had a Defibrillator implanted and is now at home. The MDs determined that it was a Virus that attacked her heart. They say that this Virus is usually found during Autopsies, they do not know how it travels but many young people, such as Lisa, are its' target. Owen and the family thank each of you for your prayers and miracles. Please keep Lisa in your prayers for a complete recovery as we share a prayer of thanks. Thank you. God Bless.

Phil Colon

[JR: Wow, that's scary. I didn't know that. Once again, proving, how little I know. I'm sure it's the same with a great part of Creation. Guess that we shouldn't mess with what we don't understand? ]

According to New York Cardinal Timothy Dolan, Francis raised gales of laughter from fellow cardinals at a relaxed dinner after his election, telling them: "May God forgive you." Was he trying to be humorous?

ENDNOTE: The Media is so biased!

Sports Illustrated Names Obama One of the Most Powerful People in Sports
By Noel Sheppard | March 09, 2013 | 12:28

*** begin quote ***

The media's adoration of Barack Obama knows no bounds.

This week, Sports Illustrated actually named the current White House resident one the most powerful people in sports.

In case you missed it, SI this week released its list of the 50 Most Powerful People in Sports.

*** end quote ***

Seriously?

Is there anything that we don't get BHO44 adoration shoved in front of us?

What's next?

Country Music Awards?

Isn't it "undignified" to see such slobbering?

It's not just so robotic (i.e, D's are saints and the R's are the embodiment of evil)!
