Expect to Stay in School Another Three Months *** begin quote *** Out of the eighteen courses that are required among the Advertising, Broadcasting, Journalism, and Public Relations concentrations in order to graduate, only seven are offered next semester. In addition, out of the 300 required courses among students in the School of Arts, Business, Engineering and Science, and all of their concentrations, only 107 are offered. Rich Baxter, a transfer student and Public Relations major, had been eager for the release of available courses, as he was anticipating graduating in the spring. “There are no communications courses,” he over-exaggerated that same day, clearly frustrated. “They don’t even have the classes I need to take before I graduate. As of now I’m stuck taking two electives.” Even though his eyes were hidden from behind studded shades, they were obviously being rolled. His only hope to fulfill his requirements would be the school’s Winterim courses, which oddly enough have not been released yet. *** and *** Besides lack of interest, technological inadequacies have made it impossible for students to register for some required classes. Manhattan College’s ‘Self-Service’ program is hated among all undergraduates especially when the dreaded registration period rears it’s ugly head. On the days when registration is open, student’s set their alarms for the crack of dawn, where they then scramble to log onto the server and register for their desired classes before each is filled, if they’re lucky. Without fail, each semester the server gets “overloaded” and students are unable to log in, helpless behind their computer screen as their courses fill up. Once the classes are filled its simply ‘tough luck’ for these students, who are then forced to take courses that are unnecessary just so they can fill their schedule. For students facing the possibility of having to stay an extra semester at Manhattan College, there are very few options. He was born in New Orleans, Louisiana to Robert Ward and Alexine Fourcade, on October 6, 1910, he was 100 years old. Malcolm received degrees in science from St. Mary’s University in Texas, Manhattan College in New York, and New Mexico Highlands University. He taught for 55 years with the Christian Brothers at St. Paul in Covington, Louisiana, College of Santa Fe, St. Michael’s High School, and Cathedral High School In El Paso, Texas. He was also a member of the College of Santa Fe Alumni and Friends of the Library. He is survived by his wife Mary, brothers; John Ward of Danville, Virginia and Brother Thomas Ward FSC of New Orleans, Louisiana; sister-in-law: Joanne (John) Rink of Rio Rancho; and many nieces and nephews. The wake on Sunday was packed with friends and family from all parts of the Bronx and beyond. At the funeral a Marine Honor Guard was present as well as a large number members of the American Legion. Mike was a Past Commander of the Riverdale Post. Mike was a member, and an an officer, of many other organizations as well. He was an active member in the Alumni group that puts together the Annual Job Fair in Draddy that is reputed to be one of the best College Fairs in the Country. Of course he was no stranger to Draddy as he was an avid supporter of Jasper basketball. At least two of his daughters are also Jaspers. May He Rest In Peace. The NYC Marathon is 11 days away (AHHHH!) and he can definitely use the support. Training the second time around has been especially difficult – I guess that is what having 4 young kids and a demanding job will do to you – gets hard to “sneak” in a 20 mile run! :) Caitlin is currently in remission (YAY) and returns to Sloan Kettering next Wednesday for bloodwork. Her next bone marrow biopsy and spinal tap will be in December. We pray for her continued health and good results! Yet again, Caitlin will be outside Sloan Kettering on Marathon Day to cheer for her daddy as he runs past the most remarkable cancer center treating her and her little friends! For those of you that follow Caitlin’s story on her CaringBridge site, Caitlin will also be cheering for her special friend Russell who used to volunteer in the pediatric playroom. Oct 29, 2010 JOBIT: Crotty, Thomas L. [MC1980 RIP]http://goo.gl/vYB2Thomas Crotty LTC Thomas L. Crotty of San Antonio passed away on October 22, 2010 after a courageous battle with Leukemia. He was born in Brooklyn, NY on January 29, 1958 to Leo and Virginia Crotty. Tom graduated with a Bachelor of Science from Manhattan College, Bronx, New York and received his Master of Science Degree from the University of Oklahoma. LTC Crotty enlisted in the Oklahoma Army National Guard in 1989 as an Infantryman, completed Officer Candidate School and was appointed Medical Service Corps Officer in 1990. He served as a Sniper, Platoon leader, Company Commander, Aide-de camp, S-3, Marksmanship Instructor and ARNG Future Plans officer. In his last assignment, LTC Crotty was the Senior Army National Guard Advisor to the Southern Regional Medical Command. He received a Bronze Star Medal for his service with the 45th Infantry Brigade during OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM in Afghanistan as an Embedded Training Team leader. In addition LTC Crotty received the Legion of Merit Award, Combat Medic Badge, Distinguished Member of the AMEDD Regiment, and two Meritorious Service Medals. He was an expert marksman and competed in numerous Army National Guard marksmanship competitions. As a civilian, Tom served as a paramedic and police officer in Norman, Oklahoma, as a Recreation Supervisor and Parole Officer for the State of Oklahoma and as a civilian marksmanship instructor in Iraq. He was an avid cyclist and was a driving force behind organizing the National Guard cycling club. Tom loved fly fishing, hunting and camping. Tom is a former member of Trinity Baptist Church in Norman, Oklahoma and is a current member of Journey Fellowship in San Antonio. Tom was a faithful husband, loving father, and a servant of the Lord. He is preceded in death by his father, Leo Francis Crotty and his brother, Donald Crotty. He is survived by his beloved wife of 24 years, Stephanie Crotty; children, Caitlyn, Taryn, and Teague Crotty; mother, Virginia Crotty; brothers, Chris Crotty and Jim Crotty; sister, Patricia Kiernan; numerous nieces, nephews, special friends, and other loving family members.
