POSITRACTION: “Eleanor Rigby” death should teach us to value people

“Eleanor Rigby” death reveals British war heroine
By Estelle Shirbon – 1 hr 39 mins ago

*** begin quote ***

LONDON (Reuters Life!) – A reclusive old lady who died alone in her flat in southwest England and had no one to pay for her funeral has posthumously shot to fame after it emerged she was an intrepid World War Two secret agent.

Eileen Nearne died aged 89 at her home in the town of Torquay on September 2. In the absence of any known relatives to make funeral arrangements, authorities entered the flat to take charge several days later, a local council spokeswoman said. A search for documents that might help locate relatives instead yielded a treasure trove of medals and papers that revealed the life of a woman once known as “Agent Rose,” who defied the Nazis as a wireless operator in occupied France.

British media compared her death to that of the fictional Eleanor Rigby, who died alone in a Beatles song.

Sigh, the courage, achievements, and wisdom that we could have had. Shoulda, coulda, and woulda! They’ll kill you.]

JEMAIL: O’Connell, Bill (MC1959) corrects my misattribution

Bill,

Sorry. Brain freeze. I springboarded off the blog “Liberty’s Life Line” post of O’Connell, Bill (MC1976). Some how in marking the Class Year, I saw yours. I feel like Colonel Jessep in a few good men a few minutes after he said: “So how is your dad, Danny?” It was a blunder. And, I hope I didn’t cause you any embarrassment. I’ll fix it as best I can.

Thanks for calling my mistake to my attention, nice to know somebody reads it.

John,

No big deal and thanks for your prompt attention to my request. Your remedy is perfect.

I most definitely read JJ from beginning to end every week without fail. I enjoy reading JJ with my Sunday morning coffee and it provides a great change of pace from my usual morning routine. Thanks for your efforts in producing it each week. Should you get to Williamsburg some time look me up and we will enjoy a beer together.

All the best.

[JR: Great. Glad you satisfied with my fix. I can't afford to lose any dissatisfied readers. Thanks should go to the all the readers without which there'd be no reason to do it. Have see what I can do to get down there. Spent a lot of time in Williamsburg when I was stationed in DC. Loved it! At least, the living historians, along with the Amish, will be ready to teach us how to survive when the economy ratchets back to the 1800's. :-) Thanks for your calmness with my blunder.]

JEMAIL: Mangone, Mark (MC1977) trained not to be alone with children

RE: [Distribute_Jasper_Jottings] JASPER JOTTINGS Week 38 – 2010 Sep 19

Hello John,

<<Would you EVER leave your child alone with any religious?>>

You no longer have the option. I teach Sunday school (PRE) at a Catholic church. 2 teachers are assigned to every class. We are trained not to be alone with children. For example, at the end of class, when waiting for the parents to pick up their children, when only 1 child remained I ushered her into the hall and closed the classroom. We waited for her parents in the hall. The only time a child would be alone with a religious is during confession. These rules are similar to Boy Scout rules where 2 leaders must be present for any activity to go forward. The Boy Scouts have had very few problems over the years, so I think that this should protect children going forward into the future in the US. No lay or religious is allowed to be alone with a child, except during confession. I have confidence that our children will be protected and safe.

Regards,
Mark A. Mangone

[JR: Sounds very sensible. I'd apply the same rules to most situations. Always good to have an absolute defense. Sad, but needed. Thanks for your service teaching. We need more "moral" people. Shame that no can be trusted any more.]

ENDNOTE: “King” Gooferment has crushed the Catholic religion

http://www.catholicculture.org/news/headlines/index.cfm?storyid=7663

News
New York archdiocese weighs school closings
September 21, 2010

*** begin quote ***

The New York archdiocese is planning to close or merge a number of Catholic schools in order to bolster the viability of the parochial-school system.

While published reports have said that 30 of New York’s 216 parochial schools could close, archdiocesan officials stressed that no firm decisions have yet been made. A list of schools selected for closing will be released next month.

*** end quote ***

[JR: Anyone want to debate that “King” Gooferment has NOT successfully crushed the Catholic religion. As well as all other religions. As well as fraternal organizations, private charities, and economic markets. Even a fat old white guy injineer, with only a few Ekkynumbics courses, knows that you can’t successfully sell against a “free good”. The King “educates” its subjects for “free”. It’s the most expensive lesson in propaganda they will ever have. Drink the Gooferment’s Kool Aid! In Brave New World , the Aldous Huxley novel by, soma is the hallucinogen; a self-medicating comfort mechanism. It eliminates the need for religion or family. Welcome to the BNW! My advice to the Leadership is to close the schools now. And, sue for damages. As an unlawful taking. And talk to EVERYONE about the nature of Gooferment!]
