Director, Client Services at BlockStar Promotions Group

Summary

Born with a set of headphones and the heart of a musician, I unfortunately grew up without a sense of rhythm or key. Once I accepted not being the next American Idol, I dedicated myself to a career in Public Relations and, as it turns out, my love of melodic art catapulted me into the world of communications. Here I seamlessly found my niche. While volunteering as Music Director of college radio station 88.5 FM WKPX, I expanded my interests in promotional support of local artists, helping to brand acts, plan promotions and generally spread the word.

Digging deeper into PR I’ve had a range of incredible learning experiences. Through an internship with Omnicom agency Brodeur Partners I took on a variety of responsibilities, from pitching media to researching outlets and managing event materials; thus building the necessary skills to be an effective PR professional. Not only have I formed a strong understanding of media relations and unmatched communication skills, I have gained the faculty to efficiently utilize agency resources, such as Cision Media Source, Factiva and creative social media outlets.

One marketing degree from Manhattan College, a few internships and an amazing role in PR later, I’m still looking for ways to further my experience and, eventually, set the world to music.

JHQ: Trinity College Professor at MC’s Holocaust Resource Center 11/16 PM

http://www.manhattan.edu/news/news_releases/103009_1.shtml

October 30, 2009
Trinity College Professor To Speak At Manhattan College’s Holocaust Resource Center

RIVERDALE, N.Y. – Dr. Samuel Kassow, the Charles Northam Professor at Trinity College, will deliver the second annual Frederick M. Schweitzer Lecture on the Holocaust at Manhattan College on Monday, Nov. 16 at 7:30 p.m. in Smith Auditorium. The event, presented by the Holocaust Resource Center, is free and open to the public.

Kassow will deliver the lecture Between History and Catastrophe: Emanuel Ringelblum in the Warsaw Ghetto. He is the author of four books, including the award-winning Who Will Write Our History: Emanuel Ringelblum and the Oynet Shabes Archive (2007) and The Distinctive Life of East European Jewry (2004). A public intellectual whose efforts have contributed to the preservation of Jewish culture both in Europe and the United States, Kassow’s many scholarly articles have appeared in Polish, Russian and German, as well as in English.

The lecture coincides with the opening of Remembrance: A Daughter’s Reflections, an exhibit of paintings by artist Marilyn Honigman that will be displayed in the Alumni Room of O’Malley Library from Nov. 16-Dec. 18. Inspired by photos that an American solider gave to her father after he was liberated from Dachau, Honigman’s works are a visual representation of the Holocaust.

The Frederick M. Schweitzer Lecture on the Holocaust is a lecture series named in honor of Frederick M. Schweitzer, professor emeritus of history, who was the instrumental voice behind the launch of Manhattan College’s Holocaust Resource Center in 1996 and served as its director until 2007. Schweitzer has been a member of the College community for nearly half a century.

For more information about this event, please contact Dr. Jeff Horn, associate professor of history and director of the Holocaust Resource Center at Manhattan College, at (718) 862-7129 or jeff.horn@manhattan.edu.

The history of the Holocaust Resource Center dates back to 1996, when discussions among Manhattan’s concerned faculty and administrators and the Riverdale community led to its founding with the mission to promote Catholic-Jewish dialogue and educate future generations about the Holocaust. The center inaugurated its Visiting Scholars Program the next year, and in 2006, an additional annual lecture was added to the series that focuses on genocides other than the Holocaust.

To further its mission, the center sponsored workshops for teachers in the metropolitan area from 1997-2002 and worked closely with the College’s school of education to incorporate segments on the Holocaust into curriculum and special courses.

In the past decade, the center has sponsored bus trips to the Holocaust Museum in Washington, D.C., and New York City’s Battery Park. It also has sponsored events, such as commemorations of Yom Hashoah (Holocaust Remembrance Day) and Kristallnacht, and model Passover seders on campus and in the community. The center has published educational books such as Reflections of the Soul: Martin Spett’s Holocaust Experiences, as well as DVDs on Holocaust survivors created by Manhattan College students.

More information about the Holocaust Resource Center can be found on its Web site at home.manhattan.edu/holocaustcenter/.

JHQ: Holocaust Painting Exhibition at MC 11/16 – 12/18

http://www.manhattan.edu/news/news_releases/103009_2.shtml

October 30, 2009
Manhattan College Presents Holocaust Painting Exhibition

RIVERDALE, N.Y. – A selection of paintings by the artist Marilyn Honigman will go on display on Monday, Nov. 16 in the Alumni Room of Manhattan College’s O’Malley Library. Remembrance: A Daughter’s Reflections, co-sponsored by the Manhattan College archives and the Holocaust Resource Center, will run until Dec. 18.

The exhibit’s opening coincides with the second annual Frederick M. Schweitzer Lecture on the Holocaust, to be held on Nov. 16 at 7:30 p.m. in Smith Auditorium. Dr. Samuel Kassow, the Charles Northam Professor at Trinity College, will deliver the lecture Between History and Catastrophe: Emanuel Ringelblum in the Warsaw Ghetto.

Inspired by photos that an American solider gave to her father after he was liberated from Dachau, the paintings are a visual representation of the Holocaust that has evolved slowly. There are no accusations or condemnation, just contemplation of the psychological space in which we find ourselves.

“My personal experiences and family history have drawn me to the Holocaust as a subject for my work,” says Honigman. “What I hope to accomplish as an artist is to form my subject into an expressive image that touches the viewer directly, invoking both personal and universal emotions.”

Honigman’s art seeks to engage the viewer emotionally and personally. She takes on the daunting task of representing the horrors of war, using forms and colors that are consistent with the subject matter. Her landscapes are a series of reflections on humanity viewed through the lens of nature: they evoke mystery and suspense through atmospheric paintings of skies, clouds and gathering storms.

“The goal I face as an artist confronting the ravages of war that continue to frequently mar our world, is how to illuminate these horrific events in paint,” Honigman adds. “I hope to not only shed light on a particular time and place, but show that the paintings also stand on their own as part of the continuum that is the history of human experience.”

If you have questions about this exhibit, please call Sandra Emmerson at (718) 862-7329 or e-mail sandra.emmerson@manhattan.edu.

JBlogger: “Key West Lou” (MC1957) internet + radio Thursdays 1PM EST

http://www.konkam.com/

1PM The Key West Lou Show Key West Lou Th

http://www.keywestlou.com/

Tuesday, November 3, 2009

*** begin quote ***

My radio show starts Thursday. At 1 pm. Konk 1680 AM here in Key West.

I am excited. I have never done a radio show before. So it is all a learning experience also.

I spent 3 hours at the radio station yesterday learning the nuts and bolts of what I am to do. It is not just speaking into a microphone.

I sit on a stool in a little room with all kinds of equipment. A big mike is in front of me. My guests sit across. They are partially blocked from my view by their mikes.

I have a panel in front of me. To control the volume for each speaker, including me. To my left is like a large clock. But in letters and words. Like a computer screen. I have to keep my eye on the time on that screen as I talk into the mike and chat with my guests.

Sounds confusing. I will problably screw up a few times. But I should have in down pat by the end of the first show.

The show is entitled the Key West Lou Legal Hour. Got to keep Key West Lou going!

My vision is for a 3 way format. I will talk. Express opinions. There will be a guest or guests. And telephone calls can be received. So remember to call in if you have a point to make or a question to ask. I don’t want to be left alone for an hour trying to come up with something to say!

Konk 1680 is an AM station. So it can only be heard in Key West proper. Once you are on U.S. 1, reception is lost.

Not a problem however. As long as you are not in your car. For everyone outside Key West, the show can be heard on the internet. All over the world. Amazing!

Go to www.konkam.com. Then to the upper left hand corner to a large read circle that says LISTEN. Put the arrow on LISTEN and press. I will be there!

So my dear friends all over the world, tune in via internet. It would do my heart good to know you are listening to me from England, Italy, Greece, Indonesia and where ever else. As well as the U.S.

Time is a problem. I am on at 1 pm Eastern Standard Time. You have to figure out what time that may be for you if you are not in my time zone.

Let me go over it again. It is the lawyer in me summing up.

In Key West, radio is KONK 1680 AM.

Outside Key West, it is the internet. www.konkam.com.

Telephone is 305-294-2769 (305-294-CROW).

Don’t ask me where crow came from. I do not know.

The first show is going to be on the homeless. Sounds dull. Is not. The homeless is a big issue from a legal perspective. You will be amazed how it impacts on not only Key West, but every community. It includes your pocket book as well as your conscience.

In subsequent weeks, I will be touching on criminal sentencing. Shades of the Acevedo cases. Also, the death penalty, gay adoption, gay marriage, Truman Annex, the waterfront Navy property, mediation, domestic issues, foreclosures, the court house, personal injury, the Mel Fisher story, code enforcement and what have you. Also based on a story in yesterday’s Key West Citizen, a show dealing with grouper fishing.

So hang in there! Stay with me! And listen to the Key West Legal Hour on Thursday at 1 pm!

*** end quote ***

[JR: No podcast. So you'll have to listen live.]

Steve Rouhana: Ford Biomechanics And Crash Protection Specialist Works To Improve Safety For All

Dr. Steve Rouhana, senior technical leader for safety in Passive Safety Research and Advanced Engineering, has helped Ford lead the development of inflatable seat belts and pediatric crash dummies Rouhana is internationally recognized for pioneering research in the area of human response to impact, particularly with regard to abdominal injuries and air bag noise

5 Nov 2009 :

Dr. Steve Rouhana, senior technical leader for passive safety in Ford Motor Company’s Research and Advanced Engineering and group leader for Biomechanics and Occupant Protection, likes to joke that he works with a lot of dummies – crash test dummies. But when it comes to protecting vehicle occupants – particularly children – this father of three boys takes his work seriously.

Rouhana is internationally recognized for pioneering research in the area of human response to impact, particularly with regard to abdominal injuries and air bag noise. He has written more than 65 technical papers on basic biomechanical research, crash test dummy development and seat belts.

Rouhana, who joined Ford in 2000 after 17 years with General Motors, is helping Ford lead development of advanced belt systems, including the inflatable belt, in which a small, tubular-shaped inflatable bag can deploy inside a shoulder belt in the event of a crash.

“I know the fear of parents for their children’s safety,” said Rouhana, who has three sons. “In our development of the inflatable belt, we’ve insisted on taking great pains to test possible side effects of the belt system vis-à-vis the forces involved in a crash.”

One day, during the technology’s first year of development, Rouhana saw something in his rear view mirror that spurred him and the team to create a special test to determine if there would be risk of unintended injury by the inflatable belt.

“I was driving home from a family vacation in 2001,” Rouhana said. “My son Jonathan, who was five at the time, fell asleep in his booster seat with his head and neck resting against the seat belt. I realized the team needed to create a dummy test to determine the effect of the belt’s air bag inflation on a sleeping child in that kind of position.”

The team modified a crash test dummy to simulate the position of a sleeping child, which allowed them to measure the forces of the inflatable belt’s air bag deployment and determine that there would be low risk of injury.

{Extraneous Deleted}

“I have been blessed throughout my life, through no merit of my own, so I want to share those blessings through my work to make the world a better place,” Rouhana said. “My faith is the fundamental driver of my actions.”

Catholic League: Why does Obama like ‘Christian basher’
‘Remember … Jennings was chosen to instruct youth on moral matters’
By Bob Unruh

The president of the Catholic League is questioning why President Obama would select Kevin Jennings, known as a “Christian basher” in addition to his homosexual activism, to instruct public school children on “moral matters.”

WND has reported multiple times on the background of Jennings, who founded the “Gay, Lesbian, Straight Education Network,” which promotes homosexuality in public schools across the nation.

[JR: We've already rant about how the horse has long left the barn. But why do we tolerate this. Paid for by our taxes. Hopefully we can have "justice" and "charity" for all. I think why the Senator with the 100% liberal rating for his two years would pick a raving loon is obvious. They reflect him. A President usually gets to work on two or three big issues and make a dozen key appointments. That's what Regan said. And, that's his legacy. I think we're seeing the result. Argh!]
