Kevin William Manning

Obituary

Kevin William Manning passed away in the arms of his wife and surrounded by his family and friends at his home on Thursday, January 31, 2008. He was born March 25, 1949 in Danbury, Connecticut to William and Elizabeth Manning.

He is survived by his devoted and loving wife, Terri Lynne; his mother, Elizabeth; his brother, John (Lisa); and Terri’s children, Jeanine, Michelle and Jeffrey whom he loved and cherished as if they were his own. He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Justin, Derek, Jessica, Emma, Paxton and Hanna; his great grandson, JJ; and his Golden Retriever, Molly along with many friends.

Kevin attended Fordham University and graduated from Manhattan College in New York City prior to coming to Southwest Florida in 1970. He loved the construction business and was involved in the construction of many of the high rise buildings in Lee and Collier County through his association with some of the largest general contractors and developers in the area. He was licensed in the State of Florida as a General Contractor and was most recently the Chief Operating Officer for BBL Florida, LLC. He was a captain of his industry and highly respected by his peers and associates. Kevin was quick with a joke and a laugh. Outside of his love for Terri and his work, he had a passion for boating. His family would want him remembered as he was, full of and bigger than life, not by the battle with cancer that ultimately took him.

Visitation for family and friends will be at Shikany’s Bonita Funeral Home at 28300 Tamiami Trail South in Bonita Springs on Monday, February 4, 2008 from 4:00 until 7:00 PM with a prayer service at 6:30. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, February 5, 2008 at 10:00 AM at St. Leo the Great Catholic Church, 28290 Beaumont Road in Bonita Springs. Burial will follow at Naples Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to the American Cancer Society.

The family would like to thank Kevin’s medical team in Fort Myers and in Houston, TX as well as the magnificent staff at Hope Hospice for their support and care during Kevin’s last days. “I must go down to the seas again, to the vagrant gypsy life, To the gull’s way and the whale’s way, where the wind’s like a whetted knife; And all I ask is a merry yarn from a laughing fellow-rover, And a quiet sleep and a sweet dream when the long trick’s over.” Excerpt from Sea Fever by John Mansfield.

Hi John!

It was great to see that my old English teacher, Dr. Proffitt, has been “found”! Any chance you’ve got an email address for him? I’d love to send him a copy of “Brains” so he can see that all that red ink he spilled all over my term papers wasn’t wasted…

John,

Regret to inform you of the passing away of a friend of mine during our Jasper years, Richard Atalese, this past Wednesday. I believe he was 45, and lived in New Jersey. Our mutual friend and classmate, Steve Hertzberg, ‘84 EE notified me yesterday. Arrangements are still being made by the Atalese family.

Regards,
Alan DiGilio

[JR: Alan: I am truly sorry to hear that. It’s really “not polite” for youngsters to leave early. Not that anyone has any control over that. It just that when I read the obit of Jaspers older than I, I feel sad, but not that SADNESS when a youngster is called before “their time”. I’m not a Rodney Dangerfield fan, but he caught the essence of Dylan Thomas’ “rage at the dying of the light” in the slapstick farce “Back to School”. Guess we just have to trust that it all works out somehow. I’ll watch for the formal obit and pass it along as well. fjohn68 ]

Hope For Change Drives Youth Vote
By Loren Bonner | February 5th, 2008

***Begin Quote***

Between classes and on the way to work, Super Tuesday brought young people out to vote in huge numbers. And among them, supporters of Barack Obama were easiest to find. Voters 18 to 33 were drawn to Obama because they thought he could unite a divided America — and for that matter, the world.

*** and ***

Nationwide polls have shown Obama attracting more of the youth vote so far. But that did not persuade Matt Giordano, 22, a senior at Manhattan College to vote for him. Giordano remained loyal to Clinton because of her health care proposal.

***End Quote***

[JR: Hopefully, in Matt’s education at MC, he would have picked up a little of economics and philosophy. Who pays for “free” health care? Why am I forced to pay for it? And, btw, I want like to thank Matt for paying for my retirement. I just shake my head! ]
