A lady of the evening perhaps? But we don’t know.) One has to marvel when lost things are returned. Makes me think of the “prodigal son”, the “birds of the field”, and all the Jaspers who we’ll meet again on a special Quad. Now the only question is will that be on “high”, down “low”, or a split campus like the injineers trudging up the hill for a D in Theology? My worst nightmare is that Hell is that trek in the cold and snow on an unending loop. It’s enough to scare me to goodness. I’m sure my fellow alums need no such motivation. cic |

JASPER HEADQUARTERS: http://www.manhattan.edu/news/news_releases/062207_1.shtml June 22, 2007 RIVERDALE, N.Y. – Dr. George B. Kirsch, professor of history at Manhattan College, is the author of Baseball in Blue and Gray: The National Pastime During the Civil War, and Baseball and Cricket: The Creation of American Team Sports, 1838-72, which were both recently released in paperback. In Baseball in Blue and Gray (2003), published by Princeton University Press, Kirsch examines the growth of baseball during the Civil War (1861-1865) and how the sport’s popularity had everything to do with the surging American nationalism of the period. He recounts stories of great players and introduces entrepreneurs who found new ways to invest in the sport. Kirsch also touches on the exclusion of blacks and shares stories of the rise of sports journalism. Baseball and Cricket (1989), published by “Baseball in Blue and Gray has been a big hit with Civil
War buffs and fans of old-fashioned baseball, and I am very pleased to see
Baseball and Cricket back in print, since it has been recognized as a classic
study of the origins of team sports in the Kirsch, who has taught history at # # # # # |

JASPER HEADQUARTERS: Improving http://www.manhattan.edu/news/news_releases/062207_2.shtml June 22, 2007 The $1.6 million will be leveraged by $2.1 million raised by the grant recipients themselves towards the projects, providing a total of $3.6 million towards innovative conservation. Dr. Michael Judge, associate professor of biology at The College will receive more than $181,000, including $106,599 from the New York City Department of Environmental Protection, to conduct a study to develop a tool that will improve the long-term survival of fish, shellfish and crabs by allowing resource managers to better determine and manage the amount of nutrients allowed in the open waters of Long Island Sound. The research will look at the different amounts of dissolved oxygen required to sustain juvenile and adult fish and shellfish. The project will draw upon the College’s expertise in
biological sciences and environmental engineering to address the lingering
problem of stressed oxygen levels in Long Island Sound attributable to excess
nitrogen primarily from sewage treatment plants in “The dynamic nature of the tidal flows in Long Island Sound when coupled with the variations in dissolved oxygen levels call for added complexity of fishery models,” says Judge. “We expect to produce biologically realistic water quality criteria by including explicit larval behaviors into our simulations,” Judge says. Among other benefits, the project will improve on the ability to pinpoint and protect important spawning habitat and to tailor nutrient reduction goals to improve propagation of fish and shellfish. The source of the funds is the Dissolved Oxygen
Environmental Benefit Fund for the Western Long Island Sound and “Long Island Sound and In addition to Contributing to the funds for all 12 projects are the

From: Reinke's Jasper (mc68alum) Persona Dear Jasper Joseph: I found you in the Transmission & Distribution World from 2006, which for some reason, (usually an advertising update), popped as "new". I'll be "featuring" it in Jasper Jottings this week. I'm also updating my address book using Plaxo. Please take a moment to share with me with your latest contact info. I won't annoy you again with this tool for awhile. As a fellow Jasper, you might know me from publishing http://www.jasperjottings.com, but if not, I found you as a fellow alum. If you're interested in Jasper News here's a webpage about it. http://www.jasperjottings.com/a_jasper_jottings_invitation.htm. Since I hate "losing" people especially fellow alums. I don't mind if you decline, but here's my info. If I can be of any help anytime, just yell. I've got a big rolodex that includes more than just Jaspers, run a "turkey farm" for the unemployed, and put all my stuff out on my web site for you to "steal". I'm also on LinkedIn if you want to do their version of the Vulcan Mind Meld (i.e., joint networking opportunities). Best wishes. Go Jaspers! Did I mention I'm a notary? Who's a Type A.

I'm hoping the exposure will lead to a syndication offer. At that point, if I had a syndication deal, you would have to pay to republish it. But for the time being, just reprint whatever you want. Thanks, Jerry Breen # # # {JR: Now that’s hard! If you become successful, hmmm. Yup, I’ll hope for success. After all we have to make room for the aspiring cartoonists to showcase their wares here. From: John O'Connor [1974] C in C I appreciate your observations. Gave me some things to revisit in my own mind. And the points of difference we both have are not likely ones either of us will ever be able to sway the other from. I will challenge one assertion you make and one alternative, and offer, not as a point of debate, but so you can consider my own thoughts. I believe, purely from a historical perspective (I
couldn’t handle Calculus with Br Andrew Codyre in
freshman engineering, hence my history poli sci degree and my masters in history) that from the War
of 1812 was a change from the founding fathers vision. IMHO the founding fathers always had a
vision of Empire on the North American continent, although I would agree that
in their vision, the continental dominance would have been more than
adequate. From the The Civil War was, I agree, clearly a watershed in the
American political experience, and established the dominance of the central
Federal government over the individual states. I recall (although I would be hard pressed
to find the research citation today) one of my professors in my Masters
program asserting that prior to the Civil War, the correct grammatical
statement was “… the United States are… but that after the Civil War, the
acknowledgement of the primacy of the Federal Government and the unity of the
nation as a single entity led to the phrasing used to this day “.. The On principle, I agree that the balance of central
government with the role of the states is offset far beyond where it was
envisioned. But I also look at the stumblings of the European Union that seems to be trying
to follow that role model that leaves the individual units with dominance,
and the whole EU experiment to me is amusing.
Living in The larger dilemma is what to do now and how to get
there. Spiking the guns and pretending it will all go away? Nice thought, but I doubt seriously that will preserve anything for anyone. We are now up to our 3rd vertebrae in gators, and the late analysis that we should have thought through whether we really even needed to drain the swamp has no bearing on what to do now You are not alone in your statement that you support our troops but |
