Earliest Gospels Acquired by Vatican
Jennifer Viegas, Discovery News

*** begin quote ***

March 5, 2007 — The world's oldest known copy of the Gospel of Saint Luke, containing the earliest known Lord's Prayer, and one of the oldest copies of the Gospel of Saint John have been acquired by the Vatican, according to reports from Rome.

A nonsectarian New York nonprofit, Pave the Way, helped facilitate the acquisition.

Now stored in the Vatican's Library, the documents are for the first time available for scholarly review. In the future, excerpts may be put on display for the general public.

*** end quote ***

It must be truly inspiring to see the “original” old anything. It’s hard to imagine anything that is more than a few years old.

Maybe I should dig out my old Thomas’ Calculus book and have it buried with me. Then some one might think I understood it. I certain spent enough time (sleeping) on it.

I’m sure my fellow alum couldn't have had as much “fun” as I did with it and have much better things to represent their accomplishments with.

I know I’ll include a cdrom of Jasper Jottings. That’ll impress a grave robber?

Reflect well on our alma mater, this week, every week, in any and every way possible, large or small. God bless.

Central Hudson Names Assistant Vice President of Engineering and Environmental Services

Last Update: 12:41 PM ET Apr 23, 2007

***Begin Quote***

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y., Apr 23, 2007 (BUSINESS WIRE) — Paul E. Haering, a veteran engineer with more than 20 years of service and experience, has been appointed Assistant Vice President of Engineering and Environmental Services of Central Hudson Gas & Electric Corporation, a subsidiary of CH Energy Group (CHG). Haering, who was recognized as the firm’s 2006 Manager of the Year for his championing of electric infrastructure investments, vegetation management and other electric service improvement initiatives, will play a key role in assuring that Central Hudson reaches its goal of improving electric reliability during the next five years.

“Paul has been an excellent example of what a ‘can do’ attitude can mean in a large company like ours,” said Carl E. Meyer, President and Chief Operating Officer of Central Hudson. “His work as the Chairman of the Reliability Improvement Program and his dedication to ensuring that our customers receive the best possible service — while shareholders receive the best value for their investment — are just two examples of the determination that earned him this appointment.” Haering will report to Meyer.

Haering joined Central Hudson as a Junior Engineer in Substation Design in 1986. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from Manhattan College; earned a master’s degree, also in Electrical Engineering, from Polytechnic University; is a graduate of the GE Power System Engineering Program; and plans on completing his course of study to receive an Executive Master’s in Business Administration from Rensselaer Polytechnic University in May. He and his wife Lisa reside in Pleasant Valley with their two children, Matthew and Michelle.

About CH Energy Group, Inc.

With more than 470,000 customers CH Energy Group, Inc. is a family of companies seizing new opportunities in the energy marketplace through two primary subsidiaries: Central Hudson Gas & Electric Corporation is a regulated transmission and distribution utility serving approximately 367,000 customers in eight counties of New York State’s Mid-Hudson River Valley, and delivering natural gas and electricity in a 2,600-square-mile service territory that extends from the suburbs of metropolitan New York City north to the Capital District at Albany. Central Hudson Enterprises Corporation, a non-regulated subsidiary, is the umbrella for a family of energy-related companies and investments focused primarily on fuel oil distribution and renewable energy. CHEC’s fuel distribution business supplies energy products and services to more than 100,000 customers in nine states, stretching from Connecticut to the Washington, D.C. area. CHEC also has interests in a Lexington, Neb., ethanol plant, two wind power projects, and a biomass plant in upstate New York.

Hi John,

My grandfather was an alumni of Manhattan, class of 1938.  He passed away on March 31, 2007.  If you need additional information please let me know.  I know the school was having trouble locating the information as I received a voicemail from them yesterday asking for info.

Regards,
Amy

Hi Amy,

I'm just an unofficial reporter of Jasper news. I have no official connection to the College, but I can get the information into the right place. If you feel comfortable with me acting as the intermediary?

I assume  that you are McGrath, Amy (2004 Unregistered)? I have you at an AOL address.

Do you have an obit or a url for one? His last name would be a good start. I checked the McGraths and I couldn't find a 1938. I checked the Obits Website but couldn't identify him.

Thanks,
Fjohn68

{JR: Didn’t hear anything further. Can any one add to the story?  }

Hi,

Today I’m turning this space over to Vic Braden for about a story about his family in America and Brooklyn. It is a story of both his and our Nostalgia, Memories and Thoughts of Brooklyn. I believe you will enjoy it.

In 1958 I graduated from Manhattan College and started at NYU law. Papa was not overly pleased with my decision but since the passing of Julius had become a little more flexible. Actually, much more flexible.

[JR: Don’t miss reading this one. I don’t know why it popped as new, but I’m glad it did. Enjoy a simpler time.]

Curmudgeon's Final Words This Week

Taxation Is Robbery
by Frank Chodorov

*** begin quote ***

This article was originally published in 1947 as a pamphlet from Human Events Associates. It was reprinted in 1962 as chapter 22 of Out of Step: The Autobiography of an Individualist.

The Encyclopaedia Britannica defines taxation as "that part of the revenues of a state which is obtained by the compulsory dues and charges upon its subjects." That is about as concise and accurate as a definition can be; it leaves no room for argument as to what taxation is.

In that statement of fact the word "compulsory" looms large, simply because of its ethical content. The quick reaction is to question the "right" of the state to this use of power. What sanction, in morals, does the state adduce for the taking of property? Is its exercise of sovereignty sufficient unto itself?

*** end quote ***

Ahh, but the gooferment knows better what to do with your money than you do. Why does applying the label “taxes” to the theft makes us no think of it in the same light? After all if it provided services I wanted, why wouldn’t I want to pay for them? No, gooferment is the only entity that can provide me a poor service that I don’t want and force me to pay what it thinks it needs for that “service”.

As supposedly religious people, if God gives man free will to sin, then why should we be different?

An before someone drags out that old tired “social contract” argument, I didn’t sign any such contract.

No only the free market satisfies everyone without force. And, only the free market can address “rationing”.

John’s blog has a great point about Catholic Schools --- http://reinkefj.wordpress.com/2007/04/22/liberty-knock-off-catholic-schools/ --- the Gooferment hates competition.

If you like his ranting. Get an extra dose there. If you don’t, there are other topics covered.

Bottom line: Pay up and shut up. Learn to love your Gooferment. What choice do you have?

And that’s the last word.

Curmudgeon
