After the small town of Paradise, California, was nearly wiped out by wildfires, the local high school girl’s volleyball team was still determined to play their semifinal championship match—despite having no uniforms or equipment after evacuating with only the clothes on their back.
But the opposing team from Forest Lake Christian High School in Auburn was waiting with a big surprise.
Within 24 hours, they had collected donations of $16,000 and when the girls from Paradise Adventist Academy showed up, they were greeted with new custom uniforms, knee pads, and socks—and a whole lot of love.

From time to time, I see GOFUNDMEs for folks who have hit a hard time, and while I’m not Bezos wealthy, I do let the moth out of the old wallet for some exercise.
(Ever heard that old Irish adage about "good works only count if done in secret". Funny, I learned that from my maternal English Protestant grandmother who wanted to teach me about my maternal grandfather's "heathen Irish culture that has a few good points". ROFL!)
I tell you this not to pat myself on the back. I’m sure I could do more. And others do so much with so little. But to hopefully re-inspire others. See I view stories like this, not as disclosing a “secret” and losing credit in Heaven for them, as much as sharing inspiration that the world is a nicer place than the news would lead us to believe.

Please raise the volume for this precious little tyke, Mike's 2 year old Great Grand Daughter, Abigail Catherine. She has been hospitalized with an unexplained very high fever. We pray for Abigail Catherine, and her parents. We pray the Doctors Discover the cause of Abigail Catherine's fever and are able to quickly bring it under control, free of complications. Please keep the volume up.
We pray also for Tom, the Son of Mike's good Friend, the late Judge Bob Sise. Tom, an attorney in Amsterdam, N.Y. is suffering from symptoms of early Alzheimers. Tom has had to give up the practice of law and his health is declining as well. Please keep Tom and his Family in your prayers.

Good Morning All,
A prayer of thanks will not be remiss as Mike McEneney shares the good news that Great Grand Daughter, Abigail Catherine, is back home. It was found that she had the Flu and an upper respitory infection, common to young Children, and causes high fevers. While she still has a fever, it is much closer to normal and with continued medication, it is hoped that both infections will be cleared up. She is eating and drinking fluids again and no doubt sharing her precious smile once more. Her Parents thank you for your prayers and good wishes as do Abigail Catherine's Great Grand Parents, Mike and Cathie. Thank you. God Bless.

I have heard from Ken Kelly's Friend, Jim Bardmore, with an update on Ken Kelly. Ken has had a second operation as a result of his acute Diabetes condition. Madeline has just shared that Ken's leg was amputated 3 inches below the knee. Ken is doing the best he can for now. He is resting comfortably at Kessler Institute in Saddle Brook, N.J. It is expected at this time that he will probably remain at Kessler for a few weeks. Madeline has shared that once Ken's routine is set, he can have visitors. Ken does not have a phone yet. Knowing Ken, once he gets a phone he will be making follow up calls to Company recruiters for the Career Fair. We pray that he is up to that real soon. Please keep Ken and Madeline in your prayers. We pray for a full recovery. We pray that the MDs get the Diabetes and its' side problems under control and get this smiling and committed Jasper on the phones once again. Ken has always answered our call for prayers for others with determination and love. We offer up the same for Ken. As Jim and Madeline keep me posted, I will do the same for you. Deacon Eugene Burke, who served for 46 years at St. Gabriel parish in the Bronx and was a member of the first class of permanent deacons ordained for the archdiocese, died Jan. 28. He was 93.
Deacon Burke, who was ordained in 1973, had served at St. Gabriel’s until his death. He was engaged in the parish’s sacramental and liturgical life, performing baptisms and witnessing weddings. He visited the homebound and individuals in nursing homes.
He was an advertising and public relations executive. As an actor and comedian, he shared the stage and screen with stars such as Tony Perkins, David Letterman and Conan O’Brien.
Born in Jersey City, N.J., he received a bachelor’s degree from Seton Hall University, South Orange, N.J., and master’s from Manhattan College and Lehman College, both in the Bronx.
Survivors include his wife, Madeleine, their children Paul Burke, Marlene Barrett and Christopher Burke, and four grandchildren.
A Funeral Mass was celebrated Feb. 2 at St. Gabriel’s. Burial was in St. Raymond’s Cemetery, the Bronx.

Sister Regina Rosaire Ruth, O.S.F., who served for 36 years at St. Eugene’s parish and school in Yonkers, died Jan. 16 at Wartburg in Mount Vernon. She was 90.
At St. Eugene, Sister Regina Rosaire served as director of religious education, 2004-2014; religious education coordinator, 2000-2004; and teacher, 1978-2000. She was an educator at St. Ann School, Ossining, 1977-1978; Holy Name of Jesus, New Rochelle, 1971-1977 and 1962-1968; Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Pelham Manor, 1968-1971; St. Aloysius at Mount Loretto, Staten Island, 1954-1962; and St. Catharine, Pelham, 1948-1954.
Born in Queens, she entered the Sisters of St. Francis in 1945 and professed final vows in 1951. She received a bachelor’s degree in education from Manhattan College, the Bronx; a master’s in education from Fordham University; and a master’s in religious studies from Manhattan College.
Her sister, Sister Theresa Ruth, O.S.F., survives her.
A Funeral Mass was celebrated Jan. 24 at St. Catharine Church, Pelham. Burial was at Resurrection Cemetery, Staten Island.

Age 85, of Alexandria, Virginia, passed away Monday, February 11, 2019.
Originally from New York City, Dwyer lived in Wexford for 36 years before moving to the Washington, D.C., area in 2016.
A graduate of Manhattan College, he worked as a civil engineer for the American Bridge Division of U.S. Steel, and the Port Authority of Allegheny County for almost 50 years.
He was preceded in death by Patricia Anne, his wife of 43 years. He is survived by his children: daughters Kathleen, of Boston; Patricia, of Carol Stream, Illinois; and sons Kevin and Brian, of Alexandria, Virginia; and Robert of Arlington, Virginia; and ten grandchildren.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, February 19 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at GEORGE A. THOMA FUNERAL HOME, INC., 10418 Perry Highway, Wexford. Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, February 20, 2019, at 10 a.m. at Saint Alexis Catholic Church, Wexford, followed by burial at Holy Savior Cemetery in Gibsonia.
