POSITRACTION: Old man has saved FIVE people

80-Year-old Man Rescues Drowning Boy Only to Find Out That He Saved the Kid’s Father 30 Years Earlier
By McKinley Corbley-Aug 10, 2018

*** begin quote ***

When an elderly man came to the rescue of a drowning boy earlier this week, his life-saving efforts revealed a surprising connection between the two of them.

80-year-old Xu Weifang had been resting in his Zhutang home when he heard someone crying for help from the river.

He and his wife rushed outside only to find an 8-year-old boy struggling to keep his head above the water. The youngster had been playing with his grandmother near the riverside when he accidentally fell in.

*** and ***

That’s because Xu had rescued the man from drowning in the very same river 30 years ago.

The father and son are not the only people who the spry senior has rescued from the river, either – he has saved three other drowning people from the water since he moved into his home, and his wife has saved one.

Though he is humble about his riverside rescues, Xu admits that his old age might soon prevent him from playing the hero in the future.

*** end quote ***

This is humbling.

How many opportunities does one get to save another’s life?

I’m stunned at his humility.

JNEWS: Boyle, Alannah [MC????] campaign manager on a big upset

Jillian Gilchrest Unseated A 12-Term Incumbent In West Hartford. Here's How She Did It.

*** begin quote ***

Jillian Gilchrest’s upset victory over 12-term incumbent Andy Fleischmann in West Hartford’s 18th House District may have come as a surprise to some — but her work leading up to Tuesday’s primary started long before she announced her candidacy in January.

*** and ***

“We listened to people, and I think people are receptive to that,” Alannah Boyle, Gilchrest’s campaign manager said on Wednesday.

If members of the campaign heard questions or concerns at doors and didn’t have answers, they looked into the issue and followed up. “None of us were afraid of anything. … We didn’t have any expectations,” Boyle said. “There’s something freeing about being the underdog.”

*** and ***

Though Boyle, 21, grew up in West Hartford, attending Morley Elementary School and graduating from Hall High School, she didn’t meet Gilchrest until a conference in Detroit while she was still a student at Manhattan College.

“I was intrigued,” Boyle said. “As I got to know Jillian, I very quickly realized she’s the real deal. She listened to me. … She listens and learns from everyone around her.”

That inclusiveness drew Boyle in, she said, as it did other young staffers on the campaign. Gilchrest made those women feel involved in the process, Boyle said.

Sports
WRNN used to air competitions of local college sports teams. It previously aired Army football before Army signed a television contract with ESPN to put all its games there (aside from the Army-Navy Game, which airs on CBS). It also in the past has aired Manhattan College basketball games. WTZA was also the home for all Marist College basketball home games from 1986 to 1995. Brian Kenny was the play-by-play announcer during this time.

ENDNOTE: Abortions represent an "opportunity cost"

2018-Aug-25

https://www.bostonglobe.com/opinion/2018/08/22/chelsea-clinton-twisted-argument-
about-abortion-and-economic-growth/6ajP713rANYAOizO30hLeN/story.html

No, 60 million abortions didn't make America richer
by Jeff Jacoby — The Boston Globe — August 22, 2018

*** begin quote ***

HAS ABORTION made America more prosperous? Chelsea Clinton seems to think so.

The former first daughter spoke recently at a "Rise up for Roe" event in New York City, one of a series of meetings organized by NARAL and Planned Parenthood to oppose the confirmation of Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court. In the course of her remarks, she suggested that one way to strengthen support for keeping abortion legal and readily available is to emphasize what a boon Roe v. Wade has been for the US economy.

"American women entering the labor force from 1973 to 2009 added three and a half trillion dollars to our economy," Clinton said. "The net, new entrance of women — that is not disconnected from the fact that Roe became the law of the land in January of 1973."

As Clinton sees it, the freedom to destroy unborn children has been a powerful economic stimulus. Her argument is that by legalizing abortion nationwide, Roe freed more women to go to work unencumbered by motherhood, and those women over time have added $3.5 trillion to the US economy.

As a matter of history, economics, and — above all — morality, this is a singularly wretched argument. . . . . . . .

*** end quote ***

What “loon”!''

First, she ignores the multiplier effect of those 60 million people procreating.  That’s the vitality of the nation.  Japan and Europe are “dying” because of the falling birth rate. the USA is too.

Second, she (conveniently) ignores that all these earning have just gone to pay taxes.  In the old days, one income could support a family.  With the hidden tax of inflation and the increased taxation by Big Gooferment, the women HAD to go back to work to stay even.

Third, she ignores that the lost “human capital” may have created the cure for cancer, the next Mozart quality symphony, or a historic peacemaker.

Argh!
