POSITRACTION: "Get a grip on your lives"

2018-Jun-10

Internet Can’t Believe This Amputee Soldier Would Respond Like This To Muslim Man ‘Blowing Him Up’

*** begin quote ***

Chris Herbert lost his leg in 2007, after a roadside bomb exploded next to his British Army vehicle in Basra, Iraq. Aged just 19 at the time, he also had to deal with the loss of his best friend, who died in the attack.

*** and ***

Blaming all Muslims for the actions of groups like Dashe and the Taliban, is like blaming all Christians for the KKK or the Westboro Baptist Church.

Get a grip on your lives, hug your family, and get back to work.

*** end quote ***

A very mature attitude from a fellow who has “seen the elephant”.

While I might quibble that most, if not all, Christians condemn both the KKK and Westboro, but I don’t hear Muslims condemning radicals.

I don’t group people; I let them self-identify.  If you’re a little L libertarian like me, I MYOB.

I hope many are swayed by this eloquent fellow with some honest, yet colorful, language.

Citrix Systems appoints Kilcoyne to board of directors
By Emon Reiser  – Digital Producer, South Florida Business Journal
a day ago

Citrix Systems Inc. has appointed a former Morgan Stanley technology executive to its board of directors

The Fort Lauderdale-based software company (Nasdaq: CTXS) on Monday announced the election of Moira A. Kilcoyne, who retired from the New York investment bank in 2016.

{Extraneous Deleted}

”We are fortunate to have Moira join the Citrix board,” Citrix President and CEO David Henshall said. "Moira brings extensive experience in the financial services industry – both domestic and international – to the board, having served in multiple technology and operational executive positions with Morgan Stanley, Merrill Lynch and most recently as a board member for U.K.-based Quilter PLC."

Kilcoyne is credited with having a critical role in Morgan Stanley's acquisition of Smith Barney in 2009. She also held multiple senior roles with the bank during her 27-year tenure there.

She left Morgan Stanley for Merrill Lynch in 2007, but was recruited back to the firm, becoming COO of global operations in technology and data. She eventually became Morgan Stanley's global co-chief information officer. She began her career at IBM, where she held multiple roles in development and client solutions engineering.

In addition to her role at Citrix, Kilcoyne serves as a consultant to financial and technology firms on complex change programs and multiyear strategic planning projects. She is also on the board of Quilter PLC and is a trustee of Manhattan College.

JFACEBOOK: Breen, Jerry (MC1971) has a warning about depression and toxins

2018-Jun-12

June 8 at 12:02pm ·

So sad to hear of the suicides of Kate Spade and Anthony Bourdain. Both bright, talented people. To an outsider, they would seem to have charmed lives. As a survivor of depression myself (50 years ago), I know that it has nothing to do with the circumstances in your life (although the disease itself makes you think that). It's an imbalance in your brain chemistry that can have many causes. In my own case, I figured out more than 30 years later that I had turpentine poisoning caused by the oil paints I used in college. After college, I switched to acrylic paints, because I hated the smell of turpentine on my hands. This saved my life. I keep telling my painter friends to abandon toxic oil paints and use acrylics, but they never take my advice.

JEMAIL: Colon, Philip J. (MC1962) on Father's Day

2018-Jun-16

Good Afternoon All,

Tomorrow, Sunday, June 17, 2018, is a special day for each of us as Fathers, Sons, Daughters. From the first moment Peggy and I met our Son Scott in the delivery room at LIJ Hospital, I knew that the title that would always mean the most to me was Father, otherwise known as Dad. Through life's trials,  hurts and joys, meetings with teachers (good and not so good, meetings and teachers) rave reviews from Coaches, some iffy ones from School Principals, dented fenders, sharing dissappointments and successes, seeing him mature and grow into the man he is today, being fortunate to be able to learn from him as well. Those things all come to mind for me on Father's Day as I am sure they do for you. For those of us whose Fathers have been called home, praise God because we had them in our lives, remember them in your prayers. You are remembered in mine.

Happy Father's Day. God Bless.

THE GINGHAM DRESS

A lady in a faded gingham dress and her husband, dressed in a homespun threadbare suit, stepped off the train in Boston and walked timidly, without an appointment, into the Harvard University President's outer office.

The secretary could tell in a moment that such backwoods, country hicks had no business at Harvard, & probably didn't even deserve to be in Cambridge.

"We'd like to see the president," the man said softly.

"He'll be busy all day," the secretary snapped.

"We'll wait," the lady replied.

For hours the secretary ignored them, hoping that the couple would finally become discouraged and go away

They didn't, and the secretary grew frustrated and finally decided to disturb the president, even though it was a chore she always regretted.

"Maybe if you see them for a few minutes, they'll leave," she said to him.

He sighed in exasperation and nodded. Someone of his importance obviously didn't have the time to spend with them, and he detested gingham dresses and homespun suits cluttering up his outer office.

The president, stern faced and with dignity, strutted toward the couple.

The lady told him, "We had a son who attended Harvard for one year. He loved Harvard. He was happy here. But about a year ago, he was accidentally killed. My husband and I would like to erect a memorial to him, somewhere on campus."

The president wasn't touched. He was shocked. "Madam," he said, gruffly, "we can't put up a statue for every person who attended Harvard and died. If we did, this place would look like a cemetery."

"Oh, no," the lady explained quickly. "We don't want to erect a statue. We thought we would like to give a building to Harvard."

The president rolled his eyes. He glanced at the gingham dress and homespun suit, then exclaimed, "A building! Do you have any earthly idea how much a building costs? We have over seven and a half million dollars in the physical buildings here at Harvard."

For a moment the lady was silent. The president was pleased. Maybe he could get rid of them now.

The lady turned to her husband and said quietly, "Is that all it costs to start a university? Why don't we just start our own? " Her husband nodded.

The president's face wilted in confusion and bewilderment.

Mr. and Mrs. Leland Stanford got up and walked away, traveling to Palo Alto, California, where they established the university that bears their name, Stanford University, a memorial to a son that Harvard no longer cared about.

You can easily judge the character of others by how they treat those who they think can do nothing for them.

--- A TRUE STORY By Malcolm Forbes

*** end quote ***

No idea if this is true, but, like most stories, it reinforces a lesson hopefully we all learned a long time ago.
