POSITRACTION: An agile passer by takes a big risk

Brave neighbour climbs up a tiny ledge to save a toddler trapped by his NECK dangling out of a window

A boy, three, had his body hanging as his neck got trapped by a grille in China
Two passers-by climbed on a narrow ledge and rushed to lift and hold the boy up
The toddler's grandparents came back home and took the boy back indoors

It’s ONLY one story up, but I doubt that I’d have had the “huevos muchos” or the ability to do what the first guy did. If he didn’t it seems that the toddler would have strangled to death or fell.

The lesson here is “don’t leave children unsupervised” even for a minute. They’re to valuable and get into all sorts of trouble. How many picture of kids inside arcade machines do you need to see.

Kudos to this fellow for his quick action. And, not without personal risk — he could have fell on his head or neck and been paralyzed for life.

From the description, you couldn’t wait to “just” catch the child either.

Everyone was very lucky that day. But mostly the grandparents!

COMMENT: Toner, Mike (MC1972) finds orange Halloween trees only commercialization

2017-Oct-31

1. I only find orange Halloween trees symbols of merchandisers desire to sell more stuff. Don't see it as any attempt to attack the religious meaning of Christmas - any more than any other commercialization.

2 To continue the discussion from last week about the Gov (oof) ernment staying out of health care

On the subject of abortion - the Supreme Court did not stick the goverment's nose IN - it said to the governments - state and federal - BUTT OUT - let women decide what's rght for their bodies. I hope we could agree that this is a good thing. Catholics should be free to try to respectfully persuade others to the Catholic POV about life/conception - but no one should be able to use the power of the state to coerce others into behaviors that conform to their beliefs.

[JR: We agree about “respectfully persuade”. Unfortunately, the original Gooferment intrusion to “ban” and the “seven in funny costumes” intrude to “legalize” just continues the polarization, politicization, and escalation. I fail to find Constitutional justification for MOST of what the Gooferment does. People should be left alone to solve problems. The one size fits all use of force by Gooferment only makes it worse. Vigilant Solutions Appoints Former ATF Special Agent In Charge, Sam Rabadi, To Leadership Team
Career law enforcement executive with decades of investigative experience named director of business development
Nov 2, 2017, 10:00am EDT

LIVERMORE, Calif., Nov. 2, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Vigilant Solutions, a global intelligence and image analytics company serving law enforcement agencies, announced today the appointment of retired Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) Special Agent in Charge of the Philadelphia Field Division, Sam Rabadi, as director of business development.

Rabadi has dedicated his career to establishing and overseeing programs focused on reducing violent crime. He served in the ATF for 25 years, and from January 2013 until his retirement last month, he led the ATF's Philadelphia Field Division as special agent in charge. In this role, Rabadi managed 15 field offices and more than 200 special agents, industry investigators, deputized police officers, intelligence and other support staff throughout Pennsylvania. Rabadi provided executive-level leadership over all criminal and regulatory investigations, intelligence collection programs, and the security and safety of ATF personnel in Pennsylvania.

"A dedicated high-ranking public servant, Sam has an impressive track record of implementing programs targeted at getting violent criminals and the weapons they use off the street," said Shawn Smith, founder and president of Vigilant Solutions. "Sam joins Vigilant at a pivotal time for the company as we launch our own rapid ballistics analysis technology. Sam's insight and experience managing strategic partnerships across federal, state and local law enforcement agencies adds invaluable expertise to the Vigilant team of law enforcement experts."

During his tenure at the ATF, Rabadi created several programs to enhance investigative processes and tactics. He established the Philadelphia Crime Gun Intelligence Center, which now serves as a central clearinghouse of violent crime and firearms-related information. He also established the Philadelphia National Integrated Ballistics Information Network (NIBIN) Program. Prior to his work with the ATF, Rabadi served as a special agent in the United States Secret Service and a police officer with the Yonkers Police Department.

"I am excited to join Vigilant Solutions at a time of incredible innovation and growth," Rabadi said. "At every stage of my career, I have embraced the opportunity to advance people, processes and technology to reduce violent crime. I look forward to leveraging that experience to further Vigilant's goal: to equip law enforcement agencies of all sizes with the best image analytics tools and best practices to develop investigative leads and solve crimes."

Rabadi holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Manhattan College and a Master of Arts degree in Industrial Psychology from Fairleigh Dickinson University.

PRAYERSREQUESTED: Colon, Philip J. (MC1962) prays for Elizabeth and family

2017-Nov-04

Good Afternoon All,

I share some very sad news. Lou Calvelli has just let us know that his Sister-In-Law, Elizabeth Carrier lost her battle with Cancer. Elizabeth has been in our prayers. She was steadfast in fighting the good fight and as her Family rallied around her, she no doubt welcomed their love and compassion. It is always terrible to lose a loved one and although one often will say, ' She is in a better place,' we know in our heart that the better place was to keep their loved one by their side. We pray that the Family, feeling this terrible loss, find peace as they celebrate Elizabeth's life and that she shared her life with them and in knowing that yes, God has a better place for her in the Kingdom of Heaven.Thank you Lou. Thank you all. God Bless.

This poignant short film from RadioWest quietly observes the monastery’s last moments, as the elderly monks commence their final, sparsely attended service and pack their bags for an uncertain future.
