POSITRACTION: Nicolas Winton — Righteous among the Nations

2017-05May-07

https://www.facebook.com/SoulMamaCares?videos/1324786934268057

WATCH: Nicolas Winton had a secret that he hid for 50 years…Today on Holocaust Remembrance Day, we honour the humble hero who never turned his back on the children of the Holocaust.

# - # - # - # - #

Watch this and tell me that you’re not humbled as I am.

Righteous among the Nations

Whoever saves a life, it is considered as if he saved an entire world.

"... ... and this is a weaker argument that is stronger than it appears. Chinese Obligation. The Chinese have a saying that saving a life incurs a two way debt. The one saved owes their life to their savior; doing less would be ungrateful. The one saving owes the saved their continued help lest the save be in vain; doing less would be wasteful of the original act." --- brainy character "Brian" in CHURCH 10●19●62 Volume 1 Page 223

I find that these man and women are lost in the sands of time. Only to be held up from time to time as exemplars of humanity.

So sad. I hope that some day, I can have a tenth of their courage.

[JR: I’d assume that the library has copies of all the yearbooks, but that’s not knowing. Can anyone help this fellow?]

[JR: It appears that someone in “authority” has made a significant change to Facebook alumni page. Non-admin posts are much harder to see and find. Hence, “news” from there will be spotty at best. I’m going to stop wasting my time posting the weekly jottings link there since you’d have to know where to look for it. Argh! I expect that it’ll become like all the other “institutional  pages” — bland propaganda from HQ.]

I was very sad to hear of Dan's passing. As a fellow Jasper, professional engineer, and fellow Catholic, Dan and I had a great working relationship but also a great personal relationship. I will especially miss the great phone conversations we use to have. He was always very open and honest. He will be greatly missed.

Eternal rest grant unto him O Lord and let perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in peace. My his soul and all the souls of the faithful departed rest in peace. Amen.

JOBIT: Karachuk, Stanley Thomas [MC1957 RIP] on 2017-05May-05

Stanley Karachuk
Obituary

Stanley Thomas Karachuk, beloved husband of Margaret Tomaino Karachuk, entered into eternal rest on May 5, 2017, at the age of 82.

Born in New York City and raised in Manhattan and the Bronx, Stan was a resident of Trumbull for more than fifty years. A loyal and steadying presence in the lives of his family and friends, Stan will be missed by his devoted wife Peggy and by their children, David Julian Karachuk of Westport, Halina Lauren Karachuk of New York City, Gregory Thomas Karachuk and his wife Agnieszka Slominska-Karachuk of London, and Robert Karachuk of Columbia, S.C. Stan will be fondly remembered by his brother-in-law Anthony Mario Pagano and by his nieces and nephews, Sarina Pagano Kriston, Paul Pagano, Lori Pagano, and Peter Pagano. Stan is also survived by two grandsons, Kellen Francis Karachuk and Kieron Julian Karachuk. A son of the late Timofe and Aleksandra Kaminska Karachuk, Stan was predeceased by an infant brother, Edward Karachuk. His godparents were the late Paul Kovalchuk and Victoria Janusz. He recently lost his sister-in-law Rosemary Tomaino Pagano.

Stan was a proud graduate of St. Adalbert's Elementary School and All Hallows High School, both in the Bronx. He earned a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering degree from Manhattan College and a Master of Business Administration degree from the City University of New York. Stan also completed the Cornell University Executive Development Program. He was a life member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers and a longtime adjunct professor of reliability engineering and management at the University of Bridgeport.

Stan made his professional life as an engineer and executive in the defense and aerospace industries. He began his career at Ford Instrument, a division of Sperry-Rand. For more than twenty years, he worked at Perkin-Elmer as a manager or director in the Optical Group, specializing at different times in reliability engineering, product and components assurance, program management, and strategic planning and acquisitions. Among the projects that Stan worked on were the KH-9 Hexagon Spy Satellite and the Hubble Space Telescope. He retired from Norden Systems, a division of United Technologies.

Grateful for his faith, Stan was a parishioner of Christ the King Church and St. Theresa Church. A child of immigrants, he was proud of his Polish heritage. Curious and adventurous, he was an avid traveler. A New Yorker by both birth and disposition, Stan was unwilling to live more than fifty miles from the city and made frequent visits back after moving to the Connecticut suburbs. He was a daily reader of The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal, an active investor with a constant eye on the NYSE, a regular theatergoer with subscription tickets to the Roundabout Theater, a member of the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the New York Botanical Garden, and, of course, a lifelong fan of the Yankees.

Visitation is scheduled from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Friday, May 12, 2017, at the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on the same day at 1:00 p.m. at St. Theresa Roman Catholic Church, 5301 Main Street, Trumbull. Entombment will immediately follow at St. Monica Mausoleum, Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 1056 Daniels Farm Road, Trumbull.

The Karachuk family deeply appreciates the attentiveness and the many kindnesses of Stan's devoted caretakers in his final years. In lieu of flowers, the family asks friends to consider making a donation in memory of Stanley T. Karachuk to All Hallows High School, c/o Ronald Schutte, President, 111 East 164th Street, Bronx, NY 10452. To leave an online condolence, visit us at www.abriola.com.

Vincent James Maneri
Obituary
AGE: 89 • Holmdel

Vincent James Maneri, 89, of Holmdel, NJ, passed away at his home on Saturday, May 6, 2017, surrounded by his loving family. Born in New York, N.Y., Mr. Maneri lived in Holmdel for 65 years. He was born and raised on 3rd Street, between 1st and 2nd Avenues in Manhattan. He received all of his Holy Sacraments at the Church of the Nativity, where his parents were married. He met his wife, Marie Rose Corsuti, there as well, and eventually they were married there on January 27, 1951.

In 1945, he graduated from La Salle Academy in New York. After graduating, he served a short enlistment in the United States Marine Corps before attending Manhattan College, where he earned a Bachelor of Civil Engineering degree in June 1950. He then worked as a Professional Civil Engineer until his retirement in 1994.

During his professional career, Vince designed, worked and headed projects throughout the Tri-state area including the NY State Thruway, New York and New Jersey State Highways, Garden State Parkway, Bruckner Expressway, Tappan Zee Bridge, Van Wyck Expressway, Palisades Parkway, and New England Thruway, in addition to designing expansions and intersections with multiple highways leading to many of the Tri-state bridges.

In the 1950's, Vince was the lead project manager for the original Hudson County Extension - known as the extension between the NJ Turnpike and Holland Tunnel - which also included the Newark Airport interchange improvements.

Vince Maneri is also known for doing the foundation analysis and design for the Tarbela Dam (late 1960's, in Pakistan). The Tarbela Dam on the Indus River is the largest earth filled dam in the world and was the second largest by structural volume at the time.

While residing in Holmdel, he served on the planning board and was a township committeeman. He was an active parishioner at St. Benedict Roman Catholic Church, in Holmdel. In 1959 at St. Benedict's he was the first elected president of the founding group Holy Name Society, which organized weekend retreats and provided manpower for parish projects. Although the Holy Name Society was disbanded in 1970, it laid the foundation of success for the parish both physically and spiritually.

In following the educational philosophy of La Salle Academy and the Rule of St. Benedict, which states "So that in all things, God may be Glorified", Vince founded The Maneri Charitable Trust, which allowed Vince to continue to donate to charities in need.

Vince was a devoted and beloved husband to his wife of 62 years, Marie Rose (nee Corsuti) who passed away in 2013, father of 9 children, grandfather of 23, great grandfather to 3 with another due to be born in August 2017. He was also the proud grandfather of 3 graduates of Christian Brothers Academy High School, in Lincroft, NJ and one grandson currently attending Manhattan College, his alma mater.

Vince was predeceased by his daughter Christina M. Bloom also in 2013. He is survived by his children Marie and husband Michael Simms; Rose and husband Arthur Cahill; Margaret and husband Robert Barnett; Theresa and husband Lance Lundberg; Anne and husband Charles Saporito; Peter Maneri and wife Kathy Shoup; Frank Maneri and wife Brenda Roman Maneri, and Josephine and husband Chris Culkin. He was a loving and proud grandfather to Molly and Mary Simms; A.J. Cahill and wife Natalie; Laura Rose Cahill; J.D. Padilla and wife Nikki; Vincent Padilla; Teresa Padilla and fiancé Ian DiBenedetto; Jane and Katherine McGuinness; Pierce and Victoria Delahunt; Julie Anne Saporito and husband Celso Acuna; Jessica Saporito; Charles Saporito and fiancée Stefanie Girome; Katharine Walker and fiancé Ross Offinger; Joseph Walker; Christina Maneri; Paul, Marisa, and Regina Maneri; Marie, Elizabeth, and Peter Halliday, and three great grandsons.

Visitation will be at the Holmdel Funeral Home, 26 South Holmdel Road, Holmdel, NJ on Thursday, May 11th from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m., and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be offered on Friday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Benedict Roman Catholic Church, 165 Bethany Road, Holmdel, NJ. Contributions in his memory may be made to Covenant House, La Salle Academy, or St. Benedict R.C. School. Staff report Columbia-Greene Media

*** begin quote ***

CHATHAM — Three candidates are running unopposed Tuesday to replace three school board members who are stepping down at the end of their terms this year while voters will decide on the $30.8 million school budget.

*** and ***

Dawn-Marie V. Blasl is originally from Yonkers and lives in Chatham with her husband Mike and their fur-babies Daisey-Mae and Lillie-Jo. She is the mother of a son who graduated from Chatham High School in 2006.

Blasl moved to Chatham after working as a teacher and school administrator in Yonkers. She has worked in education from pre-K through college for the past 26 years.

Blasl has a bachelor’s degree in Italian/secondary education from Manhattan College and a master’s degree in educational administration from New York University.

Blasl’s career in the Yonkers public school system was highlighted when she earned the Jenkins PTA lifelong member Outstanding Educator Award while she was a secondary principal. She started as a secondary Italian teacher following many years as both an elementary and secondary principal as well as a college adjunct professor at Mercy College, supervising administrative interns and teaching many master level educational administration courses.

Blasl went on and worked for six years in the Chatham Central Schools as a kindergarten through eighth-grade English as a second language teacher and she served as co-chairwoman of the district’s Character Education Committee. While she was working in the Chatham district, Blasl was an Italian and reading adjunct college professor at Columbia-Greene Community College. In January 2012, Blasl started working at Columbia-Greene Community College as an assistant professor and chairwoman of transitional studies where she serves on many committees.

“It is all about giving back to the community,” she said. “Both my husband and I believe in the importance of this and we are involved in many community-based organizations.”

Morpheus: “You take the blue pill, the story ends, you wake up in your bed and believe whatever you want to believe. You take the red pill, you stay in Wonderland, and I show you how deep the rabbit hole goes.” –The Matrix

I personally define the Matrix as a set of beliefs, cultural norms, attitudes, and conditioned states which are pervasive throughout society. These are initially created under an economic rationale which offer products and services to citizens. To promote these goods and services various themes, ideas, and ideologies are promoted to establish compliance and persuade individuals to partake in consumptive patterns. In high school, the good Brothers tried to show us the way. I remember the phrase: “the unexamined life is not worth living” being used a lot. It’s not until decades later when at the end game, I begin to comprehend what they were trying to drum into some very dense heads.

Now, I’m way too old to start over again. But, each day, is a new beginning.

Each year, I’m asked to produce a list of the JOBITs that I’ve collected over the year. This year, due to a software upgrade that I have no control over, it was a little harder. I tried several different ways before getting some support. (“Real men don’t ask for directions.”) That trouble forced me to actually LOOK at the list several times. I was stunned at all those names who were younger, in some cases MUCH much younger.
