POSITRACTION: Plunges Under Ice 3 Times to Save Wife2017-Jan-29http://www.goodnewsnetwork.org/man-plunges-ice-3-times-save-wife-trapped-lake/?utm_campaign=newsletters&utm_medium=weekly_mailout&utm_source=25-01-2017 Man Plunges Under Ice 3 Times to Save Wife Trapped in Lake (Video) by McKinley Corbley - Jan 22, 2017 *** begin quote *** Kevin Wiseman often plows paths in the backwoods of Quebec for a local snowmobile club, but the good deed turned into a traumatic event on Wednesday’. Kevin and his 40-year-old wife Audrey Berndt were riding their snowcat through the Canadian wilderness when they took a turn onto what they thought was an empty field. By the time they realized it was actually the frozen McMullin Lake, near Val-des-Monts, it was too late. The couple tried to turn back, but the snowcat plunged through the ice. The vehicle sunk 12 feet before it hit the bottom and the cab started filling up with icy water. When Kevin was unable to punch through the windshield, he head-butted the glass until it broke. He resurfaced only to find that his wife was still trapped underwater. Kevin dove back into the freezing waters three different times before he finally found Audrey and hauled her onto dry land. “Something in my head said, ‘You are going back under. You’re staying there, if you don’t have your wife,’” Kevin told CBC. *** end quote *** That’s bravery in action. It’s essentially saving your partner. I wish I could have save my wife. But, one has to take the opportunities one is given. Good job by this fellow. # - # - # - # - # |
JEMAIL: Jablon, Ken (MC1962) thinks the Catholic Church is not "progressive"2017-Jan-29John, Regarding the MC women’s Lotus Magazine, you say that it sounded like “secular progressive nonsense.” Maybe they sound like that because regarding women, the Catholic Church is not even close to being “progressive” or even reasonable. For example, the church bans birth control (a serious sin) which is mostly directed at women. However, 96 percent of American Catholics use birth control. What about third world countries where families have a difficult time feeding one child but the church wants them to have as many as come along? Ken Jablon '62 # - # - # - # - # [JR: Well, the Holy Father certainly sounds like “left progressive” IMHO. BUT I’m far from the arbiter of what’s “progressive” or “reasonable”. So perhaps “American Catholics” if they even exist any more, have fallen off the straight and narrow. Maybe they have been seduced by Hollywood’s version of morality. “As long as it feels good, I should do it”. Children just don’t “come along”. And in poor third world countries, there is an economic value to have more children. As well as, a lot of “poor choices”. Children may be the result of choices made. For first world women, such as we see at Alma Mater, to talk about “misogyny” is almost laughable. As the children of folks who can afford a pretty expensive “Catholic” education, it’s bizarre. Akin to like “biting the hand that feeds you”. And in a “Catholic” setting. Most interesting how the world evolves. But then I’m just a grumpy fat old white guy injineer watching life pass me by.] Jablon, Ken (MC1962) # - # - # - # - # 2017-Jan-29 @ 11:55 |

JEMAIL: Toner, Mike (MC1972) asks about Carol King2017-Jan-30I went to a wonderful performance - tribute to the music of Carol King last night with the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra and a trio of Broadway singers. In this week's JJ item about the upocoming women's e-zine, you made refernce to the women ignoring "one of the better “story tellers”, Carol King." Can you please explain the reference?? Thanks, as always, for your fine efforts as CIC! mike toner BEE '72 Buffalo, NY [JR: Sure. The Quadrangle posted an article in which the phrase “shame women in storytelling or are ignored altogether” was used. As an old hippie folk singer / writer wanna be, I knew about her LONG BEFORE she was famous. And now the play has made her even more well known. Since “song writers” are “story tellers”, I thought I’d point out this contradiction. Guess I was too obtuse. Obviously, I don’t agree with the Q writer’s assertion — guess they have never follow Sharyl Attkisson either. Just me ranting. ENDNOTE: The Women’s March? Like the astroturf anti-war movement!2017-Feb-04http://www.dissidentmama.net/the-womens-march-is-sham/ The Women’s March is a sham By Dissident Mama on Saturday, January 21, 2017 *** begin quote *** And, of course, the biggest sacred cow of them all, “reproductive freedom.” Translation: Women have a right, rather, a duty to kill the parasites that grow within them, especially boys, without restriction and without payment, and even demand subsidization of birth control and misogynist tampons. These female zealots are completely ignorant of history, and the fact that most of the early women’s rights activists were pro-life. They would rather celebrate Lena Dunham than Alice Paul, Margaret Sanger rather than Susan B. Anthony, and Sarah Silverman rather than Elizabeth Cady Stanton. *** end quote *** An excellent exposure of the astroturfing! I often wonder how these women can be sucked into this political “barbara streisand”? I thought women, in general, were smarter than that. Sigh! All we can do is be firm in our resolve that everyone should have the freedom and liberty we want for ourselves. Dona Nobis Pacem # - # - # - # - # |
