POSITRACTION: KFC stands up for the underdog

KFC Stands Up For Transgender Woman Who Was Fired
by Good News Network - Mar 1, 2016

*** begin quote ***

Last week in Virginia, a transgender woman was given a job at a local KFC restaurant –and then had her heart broken within an hour as she was fired for being trans-gender.

The corporate headquarters of KFC soon stepped in and offered her a new job and fired the manager who discriminated against her.

Furthermore, the parent company of KFC, Yum Foods is committing to prevent any further discrimination.

*** end quote ***

Sounds like that turned out OK.

We, as a society, need to stand up for fair treatment for all minorities because, in the end, we’re all minorities in some way or another.

Pastor Martin Niemöller warned us all!

Good work by the KFC leadership.

ADMINISTRIVIA: Making some changes

2016-Mar-20

I’m finding that I’m doing more “work” on the weekly issue and less “fun”.

(1) I’m going to discontinue the Jasper Jottings Weekly blog. (Doesn’t generate any traffic.)

(2) Invite those on the Yahoo distribution list over to Mail Chimp. (Works better and easier for me.)

(3) Stop the effort to connect with folks on Google+. (Can’t say I’ve ever heard from anyone there.)

(4) Encourage more participation because the weekly issue keeps getting thinner. (Search engines are spotty at best.)

Your suggestions are welcome.

Venice man served as code breaker for Army
By Abby Weingarten, Herald-Tribune / Thursday, March 10, 2016
By James “Jim” Brady as told to Abby Weingarten

*** begin quote ***

Born in Yonkers, New York, in 1922, Jim Brady enlisted in the Army in 1942 during his third year at Manhattan College. Because of his background in Latin and Spanish, as well as his high IQ, Brady was assigned to a language-based position in military intelligence. Brady learned to read and write Japanese code, and to translate Japanese messages into English. He was discharged in 1946, and later embarked on a career in housing and land development. Now 94, Brady lives in Venice with his wife, Peg, of 67 years.

I recognize “attendees” on the theory “if it’s important to some to mention in an obit, then we can spare a few prayers". Perhaps, the time at MC was both formative and important to our comrade. And, imho, WW2 interrupted many plans. A good many went to never came back and maybe those that did had new priorities. Here’s one of those “interrupted” ones; very interesting. Personally, I’m “jealous”; he “got” Japanese — much more useful than my Thai assignment. Laugh!]

PRAYERSREQUESTED: Colon, Philip J. (MC1962) prays for three

2016-Mar-24

Good Evening All,

Trish Flaherty has shared some wonderful news. First of all Trish thanks each of you for your prayers for her Mom, Marion. Mrs. Flaherty came through todays by-pass surgery very well. Surgery took a little longer than usual as the MDs felt other things had to be addressed as part of the by-pass. Mrs. Flaherty is resting well in ICU. She still has a long road to travel but having taken on the St. Patrick's Day Parade one day before her heart attack, it is felt that she can handle her recovery. Trish tells us her Mom is a strong lady who is very grateful for your prayers. A prayer of thanks is in order as we also continue to pray for Mrs. Flaherty, Trish's Dad and Trish. We pray for a quick and complete recovery free of complications. Trish will keep us posted. Thank you Trish.

From Mike McEneney, our prayers are requested for the repise of the soul of Mike's good friend, Judge Bob Sise. Judge Sise has been in our prayers as he became sick. He was called home this past Tuesday. Please pray for Bob, his Wife, Theresa and their very large Family as the Family mourn the loss of their loved one.

Our prayers are requested for Baby Lourdes. This precious gift from God was born today at  twenty-two weeks, very premature. We pray that as she continues to develop and grow, that she remains healthy and strong. We pray that she feels the love and strength of her parents as their Family has come together in God's Love and protection. Please raise the volume for Baby Lourdes.

Thank you. God Bless.

Canastota is the onion capital of the world. It is a small village lying between Utica and Syracuse. Four thousand residents.

Besides being the onion capital, it has two other distinctions. It is the home of the International Boxing Hall of Fame and was the home of Carmen Basilio.

Basilio at one time was the welterweight and middleweight world boxing champion. He beat Sugar Ray Robinson for the middleweight championship. Robinson regained the championship in a 15 round decision fight this day in 1958.

Basilio was the pride of central New York during his fighting years and thereafter.

Robinson’s mother lived in the Bronx. Around 232nd Street and Broadway. Robinson visited her often. His pink Cadillac convertible parked in front of her home.

I attended Manhattan College. Located at 242nd Street. Often on a walk, my friends and I would see Robinson’s car. A few times the Champion himself. Always a wave and smile and a hello guys.

ENDNOTE: Religious Socialism?

2016-Mar-12

https://www.lewrockwell.com/2016/02/dr-tim-ball/religion-socialism/

Are Environmentalism and Global Warming Effectively Religious Socialism?
By Dr. Tim Ball
Watts Up With That?
February 27, 2016

*** begin quote ***

Vaclav Klaus was one of the few world political leaders to identify what was going on. He recognized that global warming was a subset of environmentalism. He recognized that it was a blind faith belief system based on no evidence or, at best, manufactured evidence. In his book Blue Planet in Green Shackles, he wrote,

“it should be clear by now to everyone that activist environmentalism (or environmental activism) is becoming a general ideology about humans, about their freedom, about the relationship between the individual and the state, and about the manipulation of people under the guise of a “noble” idea. It is not an honest pursuit of “sustainable development,” a matter of elementary environmental protection, or a search for rational mechanisms designed to achieve a healthy environment. Yet things do occur that make you shake your head and remind yourself that you live neither in Joseph Stalin’s Communist era, nor in the Orwellian utopia of 1984.”

The pattern of identifying those skeptical about the AGW hypothesis as right wing was an inevitable result of the political objective.

*** end quote ***

Social justice, and all the other socialist concepts, fit right into the “religious” aspects of “democratic socialism”, “environmentalism”, and all the other tripe that we are being fed.

There is a religious aspect to this whole “worshiping” of “Mother Earth”!

It really is the ultimate attack on Holy Mother Church, humanity, and the dignity of human life.

Not sure how you stop it, but identifying the problem has to be the first step.
