POSITRACTION: The Eleventh Commandment is Thou Shall Not Be A Bystander

HELEN SPERLING…..HOLOCAUST SURVIVOR
Posted on December 10, 2015 by keywestlou
Petrone, Louis S. "Key West Lou" (MC1957)

*** begin quote ***

Helen Sperling died last week at the age of 95. She survived Buchenwald. A significant portion of her life thereafter was devoted to reminding others of what occurred during those World War II days.

*** and ***

One day, Helen’s daughter came home from school crying. The other children had called her “…..a dirty Jew.”

Helen was incensed. She hurried to the school and confronted the principal. Helen insisted that she be given the right to speak to her daughter’s classmates the next day about anti-Semitism. She was given permission.

Not knowing exactly what to say, Helen decided to simply tell her story as told herein thus far. The impact on the class was astounding. She was invited to return every year thereafter to speak to the succeeding class.

The name calling and her first talk to a class took place sometime in the mid 1970s. Helen was not a public speaker. Her words made an impact, however.

Helen caught hold. Word spread. She was asked to speak everywhere. She gave the same talk three times a week for years. At colleges, universities, public and private high schools, police academies, monasteries, and churches. She gave these talks into her ninety’s. In central New York and through out the northeast.

*** and ***

“We do not have the right to be silent. The Eleventh Commandment is Thou Shall Not Be A Bystander.”

Rest in peace Helen Sperling. The first true peace since that day the Germans entered your home.

*** end quote ***

[JR: Our fellow Jasper eloquently tells this woman’s story. Thanks, Lou. I only quoted some “fair use” parts. I urge you to go to his blog and read the whole story. Having know several survivors from the camps and watch the actual films, it’s horrifying what we humans can do to one another. Dona Nobis Pacem.]

Scientists from Manhattan College will be checking on the progress of Sponge Park. They've stored equipment monitoring equipment under canisters to check after a big storm. This is a pilot project opens officially in the spring. If it is a success sponge parks might pop up in other places along the canal.

[JR: Hmmm, wonder if they were “scientists” from the upper campus or “injineers” from the lower dregs. I’m sure any self-respecting fat old white guy injineer would not want to be labeled with the epithet “scientist”. Injineers do stuff and make it work; scientist just give us theories and Ivory Tower ideas. Laugh! Thanks for the find. COMMENT: Apoldo, Lou (MC1963) disagrees with fjohn68's analysis

2015-Dec-20

FROM FACEBOOK

RE: POSITRACTION: Master Sgt. Roddie Edmonds "We are all Jews here."

Lou Apoldo

The analysis of this story that "We are all Jews" or "We are all Muslims" do not have the moral equivalence that is implied by this analysis. In the context of the story, the Jews were being supported to protect them from being killed, which is very admirable to support these innocents whose very lives were being threatened by those Nazi monsters. However, saying "We are all Muslims" in the contrext of today's events is not to protect the victims, but rather to protect the oppressors. It would be more appropriate to have the analysis more correctly say: "We are all Muslims" or "We are all Nazis."

# - # - # - # - #

Apoldo, Lou (MC1963)

# - # - # - # - #

[JR: I disagree. If I was in a crowd and someone came to kill Jews or Muslims, then I would like to believe that I would stand with ANY minority who was being targeted for extinction because or their race, religion, sexual orientation, or that they are New England Patriots fans. That does NOT mean that I support the Islamic terrorists, Nazis, KKK-er, or any other such bigotry. I would like the Muslim community to show their support against this terrorism — why they don’t is beyond me — but that’s not MY problem. I have my own flaws to worry about and on Judgment Day that’s my conduct to defend. "And when we die, and you are sent to heaven for doing your conscience, and I am sent to hell for not doing mine, will you come with me, for fellowship?" Paul Scofield as Thomas More in “A Man for All Seasons” (1966) I’ll stand by my analysis. Dona Nobis Pacem.]

JEMAIL: Flynn, Bro. Gregory (MC1957) Have a blessed Christmas and joy filled New Year!

2015-Dec-22

Christmas Greetings from Addis Hope - 2015

Dear Donor Partner of Addis Hope,

During this Christmas season, I want to thank you for being such a generous donor/partner of our Addis Hope program. What with the overwhelming influence and commercialization of the season having to do with gift purchases, it is very easy to put on the back burner the true meaning of Christmas, the gift of the Incarnation.

Many of our Addis Hope children, living in stable-like hovels, such as pictured below, remind me of that stable of the Holy Family? Our kindergarten, marginalized children, young as they are, realize the gift of education is their way out of extreme poverty because of your generous financial assistance.

I know you are inundated with requests to assist many worthy causes. I am very grateful that you continue to prioritize Addis Hope. Some have told me it is easy to forget sending a donation in a timely fashion. I would like to suggest what some partners are already doing, i.e. have your bank send a monthly donation which is tax exempt to the Addis Hope program. Knowing that a definite amount will come each month will allow me to do proper management of resources.

BY MONTHLY BANK TRANSFER:

Brothers of the Christian Schools (with a memo stating Addis Hope)
Routing Transit Number - 031207607 (#for PNC Bank)
Account Number - 805 999 7606

You should request your bank to transfer by Automatic Clearing House (ACH) not by wire in order to save money or at no cost at all.

BY CHECK: Brothers of the Christian Schools - mail to:

Brother Timothy Froehlich
444 A Route 35 South
Eatontown, NJ 07724

Have a blessed Christmas and joy filled New Year!

“It’s so funny I’m on the flight with the team and I was thinking about things when [Manhattan players] Shane Richards and Rich Williams both said, ‘Man, we’re glad to have you back,’” said Heimall, the Jaspers 26-year-old play-by-play announcer. “It was so strange because it was just seven months ago that I was watching them win the MAAC Championship from a hospital bed. I couldn’t believe it was only seven months ago. That’s when I realized how slow time goes when you’re in a situation like that. It was awful.”

Living a Lie

*** begin quote ***

Our country has gone mad over the last few decades. We had a chance to come to our senses in 2008, wipe away the debt, liquidate the criminal Wall Street banks, prosecute the perpetrators, and reorient our economy and society back to one built upon savings and investment, rather than borrowing and consumption. It was not to be, as Bernanke and the Deep State decided their best interests trumped the interests of the people. The coming collapse hopefully will force Americans to come to their senses one by one.

“Men, it has been well said, think in herds; it will be seen that they go mad in herds, while they only recover their senses slowly, and one by one.” – Charles Mackay, Extraordinary Popular Delusions and the Madness of Crowds, 1841

*** end quote ***

Unfortunately, this is the time of year, when the exuberance of the season drives folks to overspend.

In my own case, as fat old white guy injineer who is a poor old senior citizen on a fixed income, I don’t overspend. And, I try and tell folks NOT to buy me presents. I don’t need anything, don’t want for anything, and most certainly don’t what them to go into debt to buy me something.

But yet no one listens.

It’s like they forget I’m a “bahhhh humbug” kinda guy. It’s supposed to be a season for peace; not purchases.

Hope folks listened this year.

The current 18T+ national debt and the guesstimated 200T+ in unfunded liabilities that our posterity will have to deal with should be the reason to calm the season’s buying frenzy down.
