Manhattan College has expansion plans
By Isabel Angell

Manhattan College is planning to expand its campus within the next decade. The plans could include buying two lots on West 240th Street between Irwin and Tibbett Avenues, just across the street from Gaelic Park.
College officials have not finalized a master plan, or made the draft public, but an April article in the college’s newspaper

The Quadrangle explained that officials want to expand their science-focused south campus and further integrate it with the main campus. That would require the college to purchase the lots on West 240th Street, which include Karl’s Auto Body and the now-closed Riverdale Auto Body.

The article also quoted Andy Ryan, the college’s vice president of facilities, as saying he was “reasonably confident” the school could acquire the land.

Police are trying to confirm the identity of a homeless woman who was found dead in a 24-hour McDonald’s outlet at a public housing estate in Kowloon Bay yesterday morning.

The case has raised concern among social welfare groups about the lack of support for people living on the fringes of society.

The woman, aged around 50 to 60 years, was found slumped over her table in a quiet corner, 24 hours after she entered the restaurant at Ping Shek Estate, while other customers were unaware what had happened.

She was 1.6 metres tall, with short black hair and wearing black-rimmed glasses. She was dressed in a gray long-sleeved overcoat, white t-shirt and black trousers, and wore slippers. Although she had a bag and a wallet on her, she had no identification documents.

It is believed she was a street-sleeper who regularly spent her nights in McDonald’s.

So sad.

Family? No friends? No one to care about her passing?

Makes you wonder what a cold and heartless species we are.

And, no, I don’t want some Gooferment program to take care of everyone from cradle to grave.

Just personal compassion and charity.

Dona Nobis Pacem

Requiescat In Pacem, poor soul.
