POSITRACTION: Wheelchair surprise!

Cop Goes Undercover in Wheelchair to Make Arrests, Finds Kindness Instead
by Helaina Hovitz - July 17, 2015

*** begin quote ***

Vancouver law enforcement went looking for bad news and found good news instead.

As part of an undercover operation, police sergeant Mark Horsley grew some facial hair and borrowed an expensive wheelchair, making him an “easy mark” for criminals.

But over the course of five days, instead of strangers snatching money from his open fanny pack, 300 people made contact with him to ask if he had someone to care for him, find out if he needed food, or to offer money.

At one point, a man crouched over him and reached for the fanny pack, making the cop nervous—but all he did was zip it shut and advise Horsley to, “please be more careful with his things.”

Godbless.

Spiros – Spillane Wedding

By Lewisboro Ledger on July 31, 2015 in News · 0 Comments

Ellen and Andy Spiros of Katonah are proud to announce the wedding of their daughter, Kristen, to Chris Spillane, son of Cammi and Chris Spillane of Franklin Square.

The couple married on July 18 on a sunny evening overlooking the Long Island Sound.

The couple met when they both attended Manhattan College where they both enjoyed four-year Division 1 athletic career. Kristen was on the women’s soccer team and Chris was the captain of the men’s lacrosse team. They both received their master’s degrees in school counseling from Manhattan College.

Kristen is currently the coordinator of student life at Horace Greeley High School and Chris is a school counselor at Rye Neck Middle School.

Congratulations to the happy couple.

PRAYERSREQUESTED: Colon, Philip J. (MC1962) prays for Heather and family

2015-Aug-03

Good Morning All,

It is with great sadness that I share the news of the death of our Niece, Heather. Heather was called home on Saturday. She was surrounded by the warmth and grace of those who love her. We know that she is at rest in God's Eternal Embrace and are thankful for her deliverance from the pain and suffering that she endured but we miss her. Heather was and will remain in our hearts the beautiful young woman who graced our lives. She was beautiful of face, beautiful of heart and spirit, gave of herself to so many. A sense of humor and wit that was a joy to be around. She was a good person in all the ways that matter and she touched the hearts of just about all who came to know her. She dealt with life as best she could with the help of God. She loved her children, her husband, her family and with her wonderful smile and a twinkle in her eye, she would readily tell you that she did. I will always smile when I hear someone say, " What were they thinking " because Heather in a fun filled way was want to say," Aunt Peg, What were they thinking."

Please keep Heather, her husband Cameron, her Children Grace and Reid in your prayers as they so deeply mourn their loss. We, her family, are so grateful to Heather's Mom and Dad, Joanne and Ed. We are so grateful to Heather's Sister, Stacey ( Heather's best friend ), Stacey's husband Scott, their children, Riley, Kelsey and Griffin who shared their lives and joy so fully with Heather, Cameron, Grace and Reid. Their love knew no boundaries. We are grateful for Ryan. (Heather's Brother) and his Wife Krystle, they were there for her. We give thanks for Heather's friends who were close to her heart. We give thanks for Cameron, Grace and Reid, they were Heather's Blessings and her life.

A good friend of mine, Jerry Lynch, shared a prayer to ease our pain and I take the liberty of sharing it with you because we all have known the pain of losing someone we love.

In The Arms Of God:

We don't like to say goodbye to those whom we love whether
It be at school or a cemetery, separation is tough.
It is right for us to weep but there is no need for us to despair.
Heather had pain here, she will have no pain there.
She struggled here and will have no struggles there.
You and I might wonder why God may take her from our home,
But she won't. She will soon be at peace in the presence of God.
When it is cold on earth, we can take comfort in knowing
That our loved ones are in the warm arms of God.
And when Christ comes, we will hold them too.

Our Family thank you for your prayers and kind thoughts. God Bless.

The Healing Power of Love: Reconnecting With Our Higher Purpose
By Jill Berkowicz and Ann Myers on August 6, 2015 6:41 AM

*** begin quote ***

We welcome guest blogger Mathew Swerdloff, Executive Director of Educational Support Services in the Hendrick Hudson School District in Westchester, New York.

On my way in to the John A. Coleman School in Yonkers, NY, I noticed a small framed statement of mission hanging on the wall.  Very unobtrusive, it read "In the tradition of Elizabeth Seton, we cherish all children and believe in the healing power of loving relationships..."  That simple statement summed up clearly what I saw over the next few hours, and was moved to share in this piece.  It was so unlike the "Mission and Vision" statements I have seen in schools across the state. Elegant in its simplicity, it articulates something we often are reluctant to say in public schools; that we are here for children, and bound by the power of love.  This seemed like a fitting way to reconnect to our higher purpose as we begin another school year and face new challenges that often distract us from that focus.  I hope the story offers a counterpoint to the inevitable focus on tests, rankings, APPR, and standards.

I first heard about the Coleman School from three of my graduate students in the School Building Leader program at Manhattan College.  As we worked together in class over the course of a year, they often told stories about their students, and what they described was so unique, I felt that I had to visit. The Coleman School is just one of several sponsored ministries of the Sisters of Charity of New York.  The Sisters sponsor the Coleman School and its affiliate organizations: the St. Elizabeth Seton Children's Foundation, the Elizabeth Seton Pediatric Center and the Children's Rehabilitation Center, all located in Westchester County. Children come from all across New York State to receive medical care, skilled nursing, rehabilitation and educational services offered at these organizations.

He was an avid Red Sox fan since he was a young boy when he would jump the train to Fenway Park to watch Ted Williams play. He often talked about the Sox and meeting Williams years later.

Peace issues, fairness, education, women and children’s rights were his main concerns. He very much enjoyed his winter home in Florida. His family thanks him for being such a wonderful, loving father who was an inspiration to all who knew him. His spirit, generosity, and love for both Jesus and his family never diminished.

Joe was predeceased by his wife of 60 years Jennie Subotin who died in 2005. He is survived by their three children, Dr. Marsha Della-Giustina of Arlington, MA, Dr. Jo-Ann Della Giustina of Plymouth, MA, and Dr. Joseph Jr. and his wife Jacqueline of Palm Beach, FL. He leaves one granddaughter Joey Nicole Della-Giustina who gave him a lot of joy and love, her fiancée Zachary Atkinson, and great-granddaughter Lailah Rayne, who all lived with him in Lake Worth. Joe is also survived by his caregiver Verna Taylor. He relied on her daily to care for him, read him the Bible, and pray with him. He also leaves his last surviving sibling Dr. Daniel Della-Giustina of Morgantown, WV. He was predeceased by his sister Eleanor Papadakis of Holyoke, MA and Southington, CT, and Dr. Victor Della-Giustina of Augusta, GA. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Helen Lawrenchuk and predeceased by sisters-in-law Zoafia Demko, Mary Gagliarducci, and brother-in law Stanley Subotin, all of Agawam. Joe is survived by dear friends especially Steven and Warren and the rest of the Miodowski family of Agawam, Brian Ahern of Springfield, many nieces, nephews, and beloved godchildren Dr. Kathryn Papadakis of Southington, CT, John Della-Giustina of Sierra Vista, AZ, Diana Subotin Ladden of Ludlow, VT, and Ann Marie Phillips of Agawam.

His funeral service will be conducted by a family friend whom Joe considered to be a “son,” the Reverend Tom Crouse from the Cornerstone Church in Myrtle Beach, SC. on Tuesday, August 11th at 11AM at Colonial Forastiere Funeral Home, 985 Main Street in Agawam. Burial will follow in Agawam Center Cemetery. A visiting hour will precede the service from 10-11AM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Paul Newman’s The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp Fund, Dept. W, 555 Long Wharf Drive, New Haven, CT. 06511. ENDNOTE: Does "legalized same-sex marriage" eclipse all other issues?

Where Is the Outrage?
By Laurence M. Vance
July 21, 2015

*** begin quote ***

But before the outraged conservative, evangelical, and fundamentalist Christians pray for God’s judgment on the five Supreme Court justices who legalized same-sex marriage nationwide, perhaps they ought to look in the mirror.

Where is the outrage over the unjust war in Iraq?

Where is the outrage over the unjust war in Afghanistan?

Where is the outrage over the trillions of taxpayer dollars wasted on these wars?

Where is the outrage over the reckless, belligerent, and meddling U.S. foreign policy?

Where is the outrage over the thousands of U.S. troops who died for a lie in Iraq?

Where is the outrage over the thousands of U.S. troops who died in vain in Afghanistan?

Where is the outrage over the hundreds of U.S. foreign military bases?

Where is the outrage over the hundreds of thousands of U.S. troops stationed overseas?

Where is the outrage over the network of brothels that exists around U.S. foreign military bases?

Where is the outrage over the warmongers in the Republican Party?

Where is the outrage over the warmongers in the conservative movement?

Where is the outrage over U.S. drone attacks that kill civilians?

Where is the outrage over the bloated defense budget?

Where is the outrage over the U.S. military being used for offense instead of defense?

Where is the outrage over CIA secret prisons?

Where is the outrage over the national security state?

Where is the outrage over the senseless maiming of U.S. troops fighting in unnecessary wars?

Where is the outrage over the United States fighting foreign wars?

Where is the outrage over the billions of taxpayers dollars given to corrupt foreign regimes?

Where is the outrage over the U.S. military being a global force for evil?

Where is the outrage over veterans being made into gods?

Where is the outrage over the millions of victims of U.S. aggression in Vietnam, Iraq, and Afghanistan?

Where is the outrage over all U.S. soldiers being called heroes?

Where is the outrage over the U.S. military invading other countries?

Where is the outrage over the U.S. military occupying other countries?

Where is the outrage over the glorification of the American Sniper Chris Kyle?

Where is the outrage over soldiers bombing, maiming, and killing under the flag of the United States?

Where is the outrage over filthy military cadences?

Where is the outrage over all of the sexual assaults that occur in the U.S. military?

Where is the outrage over the pregnancies that occur on U.S. Navy ships?

Where is the outrage over the thousands of homosexuals in the U.S. military?

Where is the outrage over the thousands of transgenders in the U.S. military?

Where is the outrage over U.S. troops functioning as the president’s personal attack force?

Where is the outrage over just war theory being used to justify war?

Where is the outrage over the lies of the U.S. government?

Where is the outrage over the torture committed by agents of the United States?

*** end quote ***

While the author focuses on the “conservative, evangelical, and fundamentalist Christians”, the American and other Catholics should be in his sights. The Church has become a Marxist subsidiary of the “God of Government”.

Where is the outrage over abortion?

Where is the preaching about the “Just War” theory?

Where is the pushback against the immoral, ineffective, and inefficient activities of Government that reduce human beings into the shackles of “welfare”?

Where is the protection against force and fraud that is the Government’s only true valid function?

Where is the revulsion to the “(pseudo) War on (some) Drugs” that has filled the prisons, corrupted the police, and made the politicians rich!

Argh!
