POSITRACTION: Christianity was not imposed

On Obama's Prayer Breakfast Digression
By Patrick J. Buchanan

*** begin quote ***

In drawing parallels between Christianity and Islam, Obama misses a basic point. Unlike Islam, which, in one century, conquered Arabia, the Middle and Near East, the Holy Land, North Africa and Spain, until the Muslim advance was halted by Charles Martel at Poitiers in France, Christianity did not conquer with the sword, but with the Word.

Only after 300 years of persecution and martyrdom were the Christians, through the Edict of Milan, allowed to practice their faith.

Christianity was not imposed on the Old World, but embraced.

*** end quote ***

Politics aside.

It’s tenent of little L libertarians that believe in the Zero Aggression Principle, that it something is good idea, no need to legally force it to be done. People will freely adopt it.

In Buchanan’s sniper, he hit a key point — God gives man “free will”.

Religion imposed is just another form of tyranny.

It’s a great observation.

Good ideas are not imposed; merely “announced”?

John,

If Catholics were libertarians, they could not ask the "government" to ban abortion or same sex marriage.

Ken Jablon '62

# - # - # - # - #

[JR: I agree. To me the concept of a King, whether it’s Louis the Umpteenth or BHO44, is irrelavant to morality. I don’t ask the Gooferment’s permission to marry, die, or have children. By the same token, I don’t want the Gooferment confusing the situation. They should have no role in any of these decisions. By the same token, Churches should not seek 501c3 status. (I hope I am very consistent.) If you want to marry a same sex person, I’ll try convince you it’s “unproductive” aka immoral, but I won’t seek to use force against you. Similarly, kill your offspring? I think that is anathema. But I would kill you to percent you from killing your child. We need a lost less “asking Gooferment to force anything” imho.]

Kellogg's name was not mentioned even once over this long weekend. On Saturday, the Basketball Hall of Fame announced that George Raveling, Nike's Global Basketball Marketing Director, had been inducted this year in the Contributor category. That isn't just a shame, it's a condemnation of the Hall.

The Malignos of Annadale: And they lived happily ever after the Monster Mash Dance

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Last week I put out a call for unique love stories -- and you delivered. Now, while we're still in a romantic, Valentine's Day frame of mind, I'll start publishing my findings.

Up first: Mr. and Mrs. Maligno of Annadale.

Dr. Vincent Maligno first crossed paths with Amelia Mignone back in 1962 at a Monster Mash Dance staged at Xaverian High School, the Brooklyn all-boys school where he was a student.

You see, Amelia was his sister’s classmate and she attended Fontbonne Hall Academy, an all girls school also in Brooklyn.

*** and ***

Vincent officially proposed marriage to Amelia by placing an ad in the Arnold Air Society Military Journal on Dec. 8, 1967, on the Feast of the Immaculate Conception. The couple became engaged before of all Vincent's Air Force ROTC cadet classmates. It was a total surprise, inasmuch as Amelia thought she was getting a ring as a Christmas gift.

Since the couple became reacquainted on June 23, which is also the day Vincent was baptized in 1946 and graduated high school in 1963, they were married June 23, 1968, while Vincent was a junior in Manhattan College and Amelia a sophomore at St. John's University.

Since 2008, Mr. Butz served as product manager for Chicago-based Inteliquent (formerly Neutral Tandem). During his tenure, he designed and delivered groundbreaking products for the company, including applications for the global cloud and HD voice carriers. In 2011, he received TMC Internet Telephony Magazine’s Excellence Award for his seminal work in HD Voice technology.

JOBIT: Braks, Richard A. ‘Richie' [MC???? RIP]

2015-Feb-19

http://www.legacy.com/obituaries/app/obituary.aspx?n=Richard-A-Braks-Richie&pid=174187339

Richard A. (Richie) Braks
AGE: 68 • Pine Beach

Richard A. (Richie) Braks, 68, of Pine Beach, died on Tuesday at home in the presence of his beloved wife and close family members. He had sustained a major stroke nearly two years ago. Born in Yonkers, N.Y., on Nov. 14, 1946, to Edward and Martha Reynolds Braks, Richie was a graduate of Sacred Heart High School and studied business at Manhattan College in New York. He married his high-school sweetheart, Barbara Rohan, on June 26, 1971, and they moved to New Jersey in 1975. He owned an auto repair and service garage in Ocean Gate, and later joined the Ocean County Parks Dept. After retiring, he worked at Forge Pond Golf Course in Brick, where he was a very popular and effective starter and ranger.

Richie was an avid reader and very knowledgeable about wide-ranging subjects such as politics, American coins, Zippo lighters, carpentry and machinery, as well as antique engines and mini-bikes, both of which he was fond of building. A motorcycle enthusiast, he was an avid Harley Davidson fan, and he and his wife often rode their bikes around Ocean County and in the Hobe Sound, FL area where they spent winters in recent years. In his leisure time, he was a meticulous and creative wood worker and mechanic and lovingly restored vintage Corvettes and other special cars to pristine condition. Generous with his talents, he took pleasure in helping relatives choose the right car to buy. Richie also enjoyed building handsome sheds for gardening, carpentry and machinery supplies, garden beds for vegetables, and a playhouse for a great-niece. Richard was a long-time member of the Ocean County Mosquito Commission and had been a member of the Pine Beach Planning Board and Republican Club.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his brother, Edward (Fran) Braks of Wallace, N.C., and his sister, Elaine (Neil) Ginsberg of Mount Kisco, N.Y. Richie was loved as a brother by his wife's siblings: Susan (John) Garvey, Sharon (Jack) McMahon, Tricia (George) Tunick, Bob (Jackie) Rohan, Judy (Henry) Steiner, Kathy (Charlie) Byrnes, Glenn (Stacy) Rohan and D'Arcy (Peter) Green. Also surviving are 17 nieces and nephews, three great-nieces and two great-nephews, as well as three godchildren.

As Richie worked to recover from the stroke, his wife, Barbara, was his prime caregiver. She was helped by caring physicians, health care workers, therapists and aides, including Dr. John Radomski, Christie McGovern, Kerry Brennan, Gila Rosen, Jackie Augustensen and Gary Thomas.

A Memorial Gathering will be held on Friday, Feb 20 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Anderson and Campbell Funeral Home, 703 Main St., Toms River. A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, Feb 21 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Barnabas Church, 33 Woodland Rd., Bayville.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Richie's name to Beachwood First Aid Squad, 4 Beachwood Blvd., Beachwood, N.J., 08722, or to Our Lady of Lourdes Liver Transplant Program, 1601 Haddon Avenue, Camden, N.J. 08103.Please visit www.andersonandcampbell.com for more information.

Rudi Giuliani sticks his foot in his mouth again
February 20, 2015 11:21 AM MST

*** begin quote ***

I have followed Rudi Giuliani’s political career since he and I were students at Manhattan College in New York City in the 1960s. Giuliani was a year ahead of me but he was a big man on campus and our path crossed frequently, both in class and out.

But Rudi Giuliani has a long history of saying stupid things, and Wednesday night he stuck his foot in mouth again and started chewing shoe leather big time.

Giuliani said this at that Republican dinner, "I know this is a horrible thing to say, but I do not believe that the President loves America, doesn't love you. And he doesn't love me. He wasn't brought up the way you were brought up and I was brought up through love of this country."

Where Giuliani got the idea the President Obama doesn’t love his country is beyond me, and beyond reason.

EDITORIALIZING

I can NOT let this go by.

I became a non-fan of Rudy when he became pro-choice to get elected. Divorces, several. Cheating on spouses, often. And, then taking on Ron Paul about blowback — which sunk Rudy’s political ship — as if he’d never heard of the concept. And, for long long while, he was “the ONLY Manhattan College alumni” you ever heard about. Argh!

That being said, I would point out to him and others that we can never know what is in any man’s heart. I wouldn’t judge any man by anything other than his actions. (“by their fruits, you shall know them”?)

I can understand Rudy’s frustration. It certainly does seem that BHO puts the USA down at every opportunity. And, his sense of “optics” gives the impression that he is a “trivial person”. I think his eight years have been a disaster for the USA, the world, and the black minority population that invested all their hopes in him.

I’m not sure that any politician can / could have / will set the USA back on the correct track. I don’t think the D’s or the R’s understand the terrible “slave collar” we have put on future generations with an 18T$ debt, grazillions in unfunded liabilities, and complete demoralization / debauching / demotivation of the economic engine that was once the USA.

All that being said, both Rudy and the Author seem to have forgotten some of the key lessons of Alma Mater — intellectual honesty, mutual respect, courage of convictions, and above all charity.

I’ll leave it at that.

Christine and Eric’s Christmas Ornament Proposal

*** begin quote ***

How We Met: Eric and I met on the last night of orientation at Manhattan College in August of 2009. Eric was starting as a freshman and I had transferred from community college. We both actually lived in the same hometown within 3 minutes from each other, but never met before college.

*** and ***

We arrived about 20 minutes early to dinner, so we walked by the river admiring the beautiful view of downtown Tampa. At a certain point in our walk, Eric stops and reaches into his pocket to give me a small Christmas gift. We had exchanged Christmas gifts right before we left for dinner, so I was confused. He then says “I have one more gift I would like to give you. We talked about creating our own tradition, so I want this to be our first tradition that we will continue each year.” I start opening the gift and notice that its an ornament. I immediately see the words ‘We’re engaged!’ and start crying! It was happening! He got down on one knee and it was the most magical moment!

ENDNOTE: "Teachers" have been made slaves of the Gooferment

2015-Feb-21

http://faithtap.com/2486/taylor-mali-what-does-a-teacher-make/

Taylor Mali hits the nail on the head whenever someone asks him what a teacher makes. His response is so perfect and incredible that it sent chills down my spine. Teachers make a difference and the really good teachers are changing the world a student at a time with their inspiration and dedication in believing that our next generation can be better than the last. Amen to this man’s wonderful testimony to teachers!

# - # - # - # - #

Sigh! But unfortunately for "teachers" is that they have been made slaves of the Gooferment.

Gooferment Skrules are training grounds for prisons and factories.

Imagine what they'd be paid if they were in their own business.

Imaging this guy running his own school. He be buried in "certificates of appreciation" (i.e., silver coins) by student and parents.

Imagine the Christian Brothers running schools. Oh wait they do and did, and while I hated every moment of it, they were amazing. (I’d recommend less force and more encouragement.)

Argh!

We can only hope to survive the Gooferment, its Skrules, and its tyranny.
