POSITRACTION: The essence of “brotherhood”

2014-May-11

FROM FACEBOOK

with the caption: "What do you mean we're different? Silly humans - we are brothers! (Via tumblr)”

Suzy Higgins: When we had a litter of lab pups I took them to my sons school so the kids in his class could see them. The Kindergarten teacher asked me if her kids could see them too. So I took the blanket in for the kids to sit on the edge of and then put the puppies down. One kid said "how are they brothers and sisters they are all different colors" Before I could answer one kid said, "Oh I think Jesus made them that way".

Maybe I’m getting old and senile. But this has the “ring of truth”.

And, it hit the essence of “brotherhood”.

Engelken, who lives in Bedford Park with his wife Farah and 6-month-old daughter Ayala, was appointed a member of the board shortly after moving there two years ago in order to get involved in his new home.
Opportunity

“For me, the community board was a great opportunity to dive right in to the neighborhood, find out who’s active in the community, what the issues are, and what kind of needs we have,” he said.

As district manager, Engelken will manage the community board, respond to constituents, and act as a liaison to city agencies. The board also covers Norwood, University Heights, Jerome Park, Fordham and Kingsbridge Heights.

“The over-arching theme is being the person who knows what’s going on in the neighborhood,” he said about the job.

Originally from Salina, Kansas, he transferred to Manhattan College his sophomore year and began to call the borough home.

The pictures are on the website http://www.jasperjottings.com/2014/jj2014W19. But I can’t do anything about the email distributions. They are gone.

I sent a prayer request to you from Matt Donohue. I asked for your prayers for John Tully, a friend of Matts' but it should have been for his Wife, Maureen Whalen Tully, who was called home after a long and difficult illness. Went on the college tour once again - this time with my 17 year old son Patrick! Again we were very impressed with how the school looked and how the school has invested in its buildings/assets. The tour was given by a current Junior - and he was very engaging and knew almost everything JASPER!.

Compared to the 4 other tours we went on - I am again proud to be a Jasper. I would choose the school again....wouldn't we all?

If you have the chance - visit the school or at least check out all the videos on line

Launching the Jesuit Networking Research Team
Posted by ErikaMeyer

One of the main lines of action of the Jesuit Networking project has to do with establishing a research team to study, systematize and accompany current experiences of Jesuit international networking to better understand what’s already being done and to promote best practices. Several areas for research were identified at the Boston Conference, and throughout the past couple of months we have received several interesting proposals for research topics from academics around the world who are willing to put their teams at the service of the Jesuit Mission.

In order to help analyze and accompany these proposals, a few weeks ago, we launched our core research team made of up individuals from John Carroll University’s Boler School of Business in Cleveland, the University of Comillas in Madrid, and Manhattan College in New York. This dynamic and diverse team from different academic backgrounds will help to identify key criteria for research areas and contribute to the evaluating of proposals.

Red Crucible 2 Cheats

In December 1920, Ed H. Wilson opened a tiny hotel expressly for Harlem's African-American clientele. The Hotel Olga evokes little nostalgia today, but its idle 3-story building at Lenox Avenue and 145th Street was once a crucible of black tourism.

*** and ***

The Lenox Oval playing field was used for baseball with the Yankees; as the home field for Harlem's own Negro League team, the Lincoln Stars; the New York Female Giants; and even with a visiting Japanese baseball team from Waseda University (which beat Manhattan College there). The field was adopted for soccer, track-and-field and skateboarding. But in October 1919, the auctioning with the block would soon spell the erasure with the 58 lots comprising Lenox Oval.

WASHINGTON (CNS) -- Like many students graduating from college this spring, Ivy Seraphin, always assumed she would go straight to graduate school.

Seraphin, who was to graduate May 17 from Manhattan College in Riverdale, New York, switched gears sometime during her senior year when she decided to do volunteer work after graduating.

"I didn't really want to spend a year off just to make money. I like the idea of giving myself time to grow and figure out things and help people that need help," said the Baltimore native, who plans to spend the next year, or even two years, tutoring students with Lasallian Volunteers in Racine, Wisconsin.

PRAYERSREQUESTED: Colon, Philip J. (MC1962) prays as asked by Tara Thome [MC2001]

2014-May-17

Good Evening All,

I received this today from John Reinke and ask for your prayers for this good man. Fellow Jasper, Tara Thome '01 had initially posted on Facebook asking for our help and lookout for Siobhan McKeon O'Connor missing from Somers, N.Y. Sadly his body was found by the New York State Police in a wooded area. No sign of foul play. Please keep Mr. O'Connor and his Family in your prayers during this terrible time as they suffer the pain of their loss. Pray that they find peace in the knowledge that he is safely in God's Embrace. Thank you. God Bless.
