POSITRACTION: The "catholic" vote didn't show up

According to the news, the "catholic" (and I deliberately use the little c) didn't show up for the election.

In 2008, the "catholic" vote went 53-47 for BHO44.

In 2012, the "catholic" vote went 51-46 for BHO44.

This is in spite off the Obamacare intrusion on our First Amendment religious freedom. And, an unprecedented USA-wide pastoral letter the Sunday before the election. Also, don't forget, "pro-life" issues.

So when the "catholic" states of Pennsylvania and Maryland not only don't show up and go the "wrong way", one has to look very hard for anything positive.

Until Holy Mother Church takes "justice" seriously, the cause is lost.

* CINO politicians must be disciplined.

*  Dramatic actions, like shut downs, must be the response to tyranny.

* All "catholics" must have a hard personal review of what they really believe.

That may be a positive message.

"Christmas" "catholics" are not the problem. Those that give public scandal, like the CINO politicians, are.

MOBIT: Huggins, Lawrence [xMCfac]

John:

<personal stuff>

Sad news - Dr. Lawrence Huggins (Larry to his colleagues and friends) died yesterday at Jersey Shore Memorial Hospital. He taught in the Management department for 25 years after retiring from GE in upper management. He earned his doctorate from Columbia while at GE. He was a great person to work with, very supportive of younger faculty, understanding of family needs, and a fun guy. He persuaded me to go with him to the WWII museum in New Orleans while we were in town for a conference. He was so excited about all the exhibits and telling me his own stories that went along with what was on display. He will be missed.

Best,
Carolyn

Alumna Becomes Civil Rights Advocate After Being Inspired by College’s Lasallian Tradition

Attorney Jennifer Frankola ’02 practices disability law for educational rights in New York City.

Jennifer Frankola ’02, Esq., a New York-based disability rights attorney, credits Manhattan College’s hands-on Urban America: Crisis and Opportunity class (now called Urban America and Catholic Social Teaching) in the Bronx as a turning point in her life.

“It emphasized in me that I wanted to do civil rights work,” she says.

Frankola describes how the class offered her practical experience outside of the classroom by working with a few community organizations in the Bronx. Initially, Frankola was not able to enroll in the class and went as far as to write a note to gain admission into it. The professor, Lois Harr, director of Campus Ministry and Social Action and now assistant to the vice president for student life, told Frankola she would let her into the class because of her tenacity.

Nancy Anne Byrne, 41
May 27, 1971 - Nov. 1, 2012
By Star staff | November 15, 2012 - 12:17pm

Nancy Anne Byrne of Woodcock Lane in East Hampton died on Nov. 1 while on vacation in Orlando, Fla. She was 41. Her familh did not provide the cause of death.

Born in Monmouth, N.J., on May 27, 1971, she was adopted and raised on Shelter Island by Bob and Anne DeStefano. She attended school on Shelter Island from kindergarten through her 1989 graduation. While in high school, she played on the field hockey and golf teams and was a class officer.

She was a strong golfer, her family said, and won the Gardiner’s Bay Country Club’s junior division in 1985 and was a runner-up four times. She continued to emulate her father, playing for fun, sinking long putts, and making incredibly long drives until the last few years of her life, they said.

After graduating from high school, she enrolled in Monmouth University in New Jersey, from which she received a bachelor’s degree in sociology in 1993. She subsequently attended — and was employed by — Manhattan College while working on her master’s degree.

At various points in her life, Ms. Byrne worked for her parents in the golf shop at the Gardiner’s Bay Country Club on Shelter Island. She also worked as a residence hall director at the State University at Stony Brook, where she was given awards for her work and dedication to the students. She also worked in publishing for two years and for the Shelter Island Police Department.

Uruguay's Jesuit leaders rebuke priest for supporting legal abortion

CWN - November 02, 2012

Jesuit superiors in Uruguay have voiced their “deep regret” that a Jesuit priest there expressed support for legislation allowing legal abortion.

The views expressed by Father Jose Ignacio Gonzalez Faus, SJ, “in no way reflect our thoughts and viewpoints,” the country’s Jesuit leaders said. The priest’s statements “have done nothing more than create confusion,” the superiors said.
