FLASH! Important info received after the deadline

I’ve renovated for the new year. Simpler, cleaner, and – of course – less work for me! Since I received ZERO input, I’ve made it easier on my self. J It was ime to house clean. I really like the daily news wire approach. No thought on my part, find it and post it. Optimizes my time spent on the doing and less on the formatting. Hope everyone else does as well.

Illegal Immigrant Rescues Boy in Desert
Nov 23 08:51 PM US/Eastern
By TERRY TANG Associated Press writer

*** begin quote ***

PHOENIX (AP) - A 9-year-old boy looking for help after his mother crashed their van in the southern Arizona desert was rescued by a man entering the U.S. illegally, who stayed with him until help arrived the next day, an official said.

The 45-year-old woman, who eventually died while awaiting help, had been driving on a U.S. Forest Service road in a remote area just north of the Mexican border when she lost control of her van on a curve on Thanksgiving, Sheriff Tony Estrada said.

The van vaulted into a canyon and landed 300 feet from the road, he said. The woman, from Rimrock, north of Phoenix, survived the impact but was pinned inside, Estrada said.

Her son, unhurt but disoriented, crawled out to get help and was found about two hours later by Jesus Manuel Cordova, 26, of Magdalena de Kino in the northern Mexican state of Sonora. Unable to pull the mother out, he comforted the boy while they waited for help.

The woman died a short time later.

*** end quote ***

And, I’m sure that the fellow was well rewarded for his humanity. Handcuffs, jail cell, one way trip back to Mexico … … I just shake my head.

I don’t know about anyone else, but I see the essential humanity of man in evidence here. The Intelligent Designer’s plan at work?

I KNOW that, if we didn’t have the welfare / warfare state, we COULD take the giant trash bag off the Statue of Liberty, and throw open the golden doors. That’s the America I want to live in. The Peaceful One. The Magnanimous One. The Home of the Free and the Land of the Brave.

Sadly, we’re a long way from our “revolutionary” roots. And, that makes me sad.

!

Reflect well on our alma mater, this week, every week, in any and every way possible, large or small. God bless.

Picking a Successor for Doctoroff
By Charles V. Bagli

***Begin Quote***

Several names are being floated at City Hall as possible successors to Daniel L. Doctoroff, the deputy mayor for economic development, who is leaving the government at the end of the year to become president of Bloomberg L.P.

Among the possible candidates being mentioned are John H. Banks III and Marvin Markus.

Mr. Banks is the top lobbyist for Consolidated Edison and a City Hall veteran. He began his career in the Koch administration in the Mayor’s Office of Operations in 1986. In 1990, he joined the Finance Division of the City Council, working on infrastructure and economic development issues. He became deputy director of the division in 1993, managing a staff of 40 financial analysts. He joined Con Edison in 1999 but returned to the Council to serve as chief of staff to the speaker at the time, Gifford Miller, from 2000 to 2002. A graduate of Manhattan College, Mr. Banks received a master’s degree in public administration from Baruch College. Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg appointed Mr. Banks to the board of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority.

{Extraneous Deleted}

Each man would offer different strengths. Mr. Banks has deep relationships in the government and might be a suitable choice to implement the ambitious — and unfinished — agenda that Mr. Doctoroff laid down. Mr. Markus is highly regarded by the private sector and, like Mr. Doctoroff, is seen as independent — and sometimes impatient. Mr. Markus’s role in presiding over contentious hearings over rent regulations could be a drawback if Mr. Bloomberg is looking for someone with broad public appeal.

Kreido Biofuels Retains Ben Binninger as Chief Executive Officer
DATELINE: CAMARILLO, Calif.

The Board of Directors of Kreido Biofuels, Inc. (OTCBB: KRBF), a renewable energy company, announced today that it has named interim Chief Executive Officer and Board member G.A. Ben Binninger to the post of Chief Executive Officer. Mr. Binninger was appointed interim CEO in July 2007 and has served on the Board of the company and its predecessor, Kreido Laboratories, since 2004.

Betsy Wood Knapp, Kreido’s Chair of the Board, stated, “During the course of Ben’s involvement with Kreido, he has provided an extraordinary range of experience in the fuels and chemicals industries. His familiarity with Kreido’s technology, business and staff has enabled him to be immediately effective in carrying out the company’s mission. In the last five months, it became clear that Ben’s background and expertise make him uniquely qualified to continue to lead the company.”

Chief Executive Officer Ben Binninger said, “I strongly believe in the company and its future. For this reason I have committed to serve as Kreido’s Chief Executive and dedicate myself to the goal of creating a profitable, growing leader in biofuels. Since mid-summer when I accepted the interim CEO position, we have achieved the following noteworthy accomplishments:

* Met ASTM standards for conversion in the STT® system with animal fats, in addition to soy, palm, canola, jatropha and castor oils, tested earlier.

* Expanded our Camarillo facilities to manufacture reactors for at least four plants annually from a single shift operation.

* Manufactured and are assembling the four reactors required for our Wilmington plant.

* Ran the Foothill pilot plant and produced biodiesel that significantly exceeded the conversions necessary to meet industry specifications based on pork fat.

* Substantially completed the first modular plant, which is being readied for shipment to Wilmington.

* Laid the ground work for rapid execution of licensing for commercial plants and international facilities following the start up of the Wilmington plant.”

Previously, Mr. Binninger served as a director and advisor to Kreido Laboratories, the predecessor company. He has hands-on experience leading technologically sophisticated global process and service businesses up to $1 billion with Atlantic Richfield Company (ARCO), Rio Tinto Borax, Exxon and Hercules. Mr. Binninger has a B.E. degree in Chemical Engineering from Manhattan college and a M.B.A. from Harvard University.

Western Governors University Appoints New Provost
SALT LAKE CITY, UT -- 12/10/07 --

Category : PressRelease

*** begin quote ***

SALT LAKE CITY, UT -- 12/10/07 -- Western Governors University (WGU) today named Sal Monaco, Ph.D. as its new provost and vice-president of academic affairs, according to President Robert W. Mendenhall. Dr. Monaco joins WGU following a distinguished career developing and delivering high quality educational programs in business, technology, health care administration, and education. Dr. Monaco spent ten years at University of Maryland University College (UMUC), serving until 2006 as Vice Provost and Dean of the Graduate School of Management and Technology delivering online degrees to more than 12,000 students enrolled in 20 degree and 40 certificate programs.

He has more than 25 years of management responsibility in business, higher education, in the private sector, and with the United States Air Force. Since leaving UMUC in 2006, Dr Monaco has successfully served as Interim President of the New England College of Finance in Boston, Massachusetts, and most recently as Provost and Executive Vice President of the American College of Education. He holds a B.S.E. from Manhattan College, an M.S.E. from the University of Michigan and a Ph.D. from the Lally School of Management and Technology at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. His appointment will be effective January 21, 2008.

"WGU is redefining the model for higher education by preparing students with a set of integrated competencies, rather than a succession of courses, that define the skills, knowledge, and abilities needed in today's competitive marketplace," says Dr. Monaco. "Through a thorough and carefully crafted objective assessment of each competency, WGU ensures that graduates actually possess these critical workforce skills. Today, the university is on the threshold of becoming a formidable and dominant force in providing education for working professionals in career areas that are most in demand."

According to President Robert Mendenhall, "What attracted us most to Dr. Monaco is his commitment to high academic quality and his demonstrated success in managing faculty and student success in a high growth online education enterprise. As WGU continues to grow at a fast rate (45% growth last year), Dr. Monaco's leadership will serve our growing student enrollment and the WGU academic staff extremely well."

About Western Governors University (WGU)

WGU is the only accredited university in the U.S. offering online competency-based degree programs. The private non-profit university was founded and is supported by 19 governors, as well as more than 20 leading corporations and foundations, which include corporations and foundations such as AT & T, Bearing Point, Dell, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Hewlett-Packard, HCA, Microsoft, Oracle, Qwest, SunGard SCT, Sun Microsystems, and Zions Bank. WGU offers bachelor's and master's degrees in business, information technology, teacher education, and health professions, with students in all 50 states. It’s a real shame that the casualties in the Gooferment’s War on Drugs is the American people’s sensibilities.

Guess they didn’t teach about Prohibition in gooferment skoolz.

We have violent turf wars, just like the St. Valentine’s Day massacre, in which neighborhoods are terrorized and there’s collateral damage. Ever hear of the Miller and Bud guys duking it out. Or the Pepsi and Coke folks shooting it out over space in the inner city.

No, it’s the black market resolving its disputes.

Now don’t get me wrong. Drug addiction is terrible. A tragedy.

But what we have done is far far worse.

If the gooferment can’t keep drugs out of its own prisons, the what chance do they have of doing it in a supposedly free society.

Nope, the market will provide what people demand. Only the gooferment is dumb enough to think that laws will change that. And, we’re even dumber to let them try!

?

And that’s the last word.
