ALL BOILER PLATE is at the end.

Signing off for this week.

Well this is another sad moment as the “culture of death” wins. Monday the government will execute another citizen. I guess I’ll have to reread the Constitution again to see where the dead old white men said it was OK for the government to kill its citizens. I must have missed that. Now, McVeigh is dangerous killer! But, we must recognize that it is not without provocation. Ruby Ridge and Waco are just the latest in a long line of events where the “government” has stepped over the line. Probably, the only thing that keeps them scared, if anything does, was the “peace movement” of the 60’s, the armed gangs (i.e., light infantry), and the “gun nuts” (i.e., heavy infantry). The VietCong demonstrated what a dedicated cadre of armed people can do. I am sure that the politicians want everyone to just go back to sleep. Everything will be ok. Big Brother will take care of everything. Right up to the time that they begin to load Jaspers on to the trains to “reeducation camps”. That will not happen until several other minorities are loaded on first. Remember the German gun control laws of the 1920’s permitted the deportation of minorities to the death camps in the 1930’s. It can happen here. Look at the WWII interment camps. The death penalty is wrong. Speak out against it. McVeigh is not the issue; the out of control government is.

Reflect well on our alma mater, this week, every week, in any and every way possible, large or small. God bless.

I haven’t been able to send postcards due to the disruptions in my processes. So that we have to wait until I get back to my normally organized life. :-(

My advice is to keep you're eye on your email because these ISPs are not all that good at SP-ing it.

HEADLINE: Globetrotters: Lobos Parmer, Douglas Will Take European Vacations
BYLINE: Rick Wright Journal Staff Writer

Join the Lobos, see the world.

University of New Mexico men's basketball players Ruben Douglas and Marlon Parmer are bound for Europe to play on separate touring college all-star teams, Lobos coach Fran Fraschilla said Monday.

Meanwhile, Fraschilla said, he's hoping to take the Lobos as a team to Spain next year.

Douglas, a 6-foot, 4-inch guard who led UNM in scoring last season as a sophomore with a 16.3 average, leaves Wednesday for Italy. He'll play on a team coached by Bill Van Gundy, father of New York Knicks head coach Jeff Van Gundy.

Douglas recently returned from Colorado Springs, where he tried out for the United States World University Games team. He didn't make the squad.

Parmer, a 6-2 point guard who led UNM in assists (5.4 a game) as a sophomore, is to leave June 13 with a college all-star team scheduled to play in Italy and Greece. Mike Jarvis Jr., an assistant to his father at St. John's, will be the coach.

"Both of these guys are going to get a chance to see Europe and experience what might be a once-in-a-lifetime cultural opportunity," Fraschilla said. "The basketball should be very good for them as well, playing against the better teams in Greece and Italy."

Regarding next year's proposed trip to Spain, Fraschilla said the NCAA allows member schools one foreign tour every four years.

Fraschilla has ties to Spain, having coached a Spanish player, Jeronimo Bucero, at Manhattan College in 1993. Two young Spanish coaches, Antonio Rodriguez and Felix J. Alonso, spent most of the 1999-2000 season in Albuquerque studying U.S. college basketball.

It's believed the UNM men's basketball team hasn't made a foreign tour since 1974, when the Lobos won a gold medal representing the U.S. at an international tournament in Israel and then played in France.

Since then, several tours China in 1987, Australia in '91, France-Switzerland-Austria in '93 were planned but then canceled for a variety of reasons.

Success in the classroom, Fraschilla said, could have something to do with future foreign travel by the Lobos whether as individuals or as a team.

"Ruben and Marlon are able to make these trips because they're ahead of schedule academically and don't have to go to summer school," he said.

The Lobos had a strong semester in the classroom, Fraschilla said, with eight players compiling a grade-point average of 3.0 or better.

A May 28 Op-Ed article incorrectly stated that the Manhattanville College faculty's union was recognized by a regional division of the National Labor Relations Board. The Manhattanville case, which concerns the faculty's right to hold an election on union representation, is pending before the regional N.L.R.B. It is the Manhattan College faculty that has been recognized by the regional and national N.L.R.B. offices as having the right to unionize.

Of the 30 I picked, letter that I sent them were returned on 10. Just in case you try to do the same, you should be aware of the “quality” of the database. I would suggest that it needs you to update your information and urge others to do the same. In past issues, I have shared how the “Ivies” do it. We need to do it better because we have less to do it with.

Jack's latest dilemma

I was having problems with my ATM card & called my bank, First Union, to request a replacement card.  I never received  the replacement card & when I checked my account on their  online webpage I discovered that there were almost $9,000 in fraudulent withdrawals made by ATM card.  The MAC card  & the temporary password were apparently stolen in the US mail.

The bank ultimately resolved this matter to my complete  satisfaction but the agita (sic) was quite intense for a few days.

My suggestion:  NEVER have an ATM card mailed to you. Have it sent to your local bank branch & pick it up yourself.

Jack Goll

[JR: As a security and technology professional, I agree with that suggestion. People are very cavalier with their identity. You, and your money, are that card. Even in my own family, relatives insist on writing their pin on the card! Just like on the web, people still use the same or trivial passwords for every web site they use. To those people, don’t complain when bad things happen. For my passwords I use a book code. If any one is interested drop me an email with the subject book code, my email program will respond automatically with a description of how to do it.]

John,

My very good friend Richard M Lombardi who I believe is class of 63 (civil Engineering) would like to see a copy of your newsletter and perhaps become a subscriber. Would you send him an invite? His address is <privacy invoked>

Did I gather you are job hunting? Sorry, to hear that. It seems when you near 60 too many companies see an opportunity to save money at your expense. Best wishes and I'll say a little prayer that everything will work out for you. I voluntarily retired two years ago. Just lost interest in working!

John A (Jack) Higgins, '62E.

[JR: <1> Done <2> Ahm the job hunt is institutionalized on Wall Street. Every one should always be “looking”. A seven year run is remarkable in an company that has a 30% turnover rate. That means that in gross numbers every employee lasts five years. And, the management complains about it. What a joke. But, the packages are nice and one gets to learn something new. But, no one for a moment should believe the “party line” and become complacent. I can understand the disillusionment and cynicism in today’s work force. I predict that working for oneself will be the next big trend. Thanks for your kind words.]

To date, we share the news, any "new registrations" (i.e., data that differs from the alumni directory), and anything we find about "lost" jaspers.

QUALIFICATION

You may only subscribe to the list, visit the web site, read the archives, and submit items for publication only if you have demonstrated a connection to Manhattan College. This may require providing information about yourself to assert the claim to a connection. Decisions of the CIC are final. If you do provide such personal information, such as email, name, address or telephone numbers, we will not disclose it to anyone except as described here.

CONNECTING

Should you wish to connect to someone else on the list, you must send in an email to the list requesting the connection. We will respond to you, so you know we received your request, and send a BCC (i.e., Blind Carbon Copy) of our response to your target with your email address visible. Thus by requesting the connection, you are allowing us to share your email address with another list member. After that it is up to the other to respond to you. Bear in mind that anything coming to the list or to me via my reinkefj@alum.manhattan.edu address is assumed to be for publication to the list and you agree to its use as described.

Should some one wish to connect with you, you will be sent a BCC (i.e., Blind Carbon Copy) of our response as described above. It is then your decision about responding.

We want you to be pleased not only with this service. Your satisfaction, and continued participation, is very important to all of us.

REQUESTING YOUR PARTICIPATION

Please remember this effort depends upon you being a reporter. Email any news about Jaspers, including yourself --- (It is ok to toot your own horn. If you don't, who will? If it sounds too bad, I'll tone it down.) --- to reinkefj@alum.manhattan.edu. Please mark if you DON'T want it distributed AND / OR if you DON'T want me to edit it. Or, you can fax news to 781-723-7975 any time. Or, you can USMail it to me at 3 Tyne Court Kendall Park, NJ 08824.

INVITING ANY JASPERS

Feel free to invite other Jaspers to join us either at http:// jasperjottings listbot.com or by an email subscribing to jasperjottings-subscribe listbot.com. There are public archives of all the jottings at http://jasperjottings.listbot.com for any member to see.

PROBLEMS

Report any problems or feel free to give me feedback, by emailing me at reinkef@jalum.manhattan.edu. If you are really enraged, or need to speak to me, call 732-821- 5850.

If you don't receive your weekly newsletter, your email may be "bouncing". One or two individual transmissions fail each week and, depending upon how you signed up, I may have no way to track you down, so stay in touch.
